Part 12: Secret Passage

Loy mentioned she didn’t experience much trouble in this dungeon, well this time things are rather different.

IrjzHzZ.jpg

jjUFk4M.jpg

In the beginning part of the dungeon are some easy trolls to fight.

Outskirter, Victor and Rada level up here and get to choose some new perks.

JJHQVW8.jpg

fXB9EUi.jpg

CjK6y00.jpg

Further in the dungeon are skeletons and undead.

7GRgDM3.jpg

m8vIhHg.jpg

C9iJnNn.jpg

A highly annoying new enemy is the Phantom, who can spam highly damaging Freeze spells or somesuch. Not entirely sure whether elemental resistance even comes into play here.

n43PsoF.jpg

A2hyTb9.jpg

Another fun enemy to fight is the Evil Eye (basically a beholder copy paste). Like the D&D variant it incessantly spams magic rays from its main eye. One or two at the time is not too hard but an entire pack can pose problems.

ZhnCHdL.jpg

e0inN77.jpg

I tested out Rada’s Spirit Ancestor (aka “lol I win”) skill in this battle; it’s p. cool it actually transforms her into a wolf.

cl6cFam.jpg

At any rate, the group needed to locate an amulet here; its location is guarded by succubi and stone golems.

The succubus is a new enemy; they have low HP but like to home in on Telle. It seems they have some “touch of death” melee ability that does thousands of damage.

7V6OdUO.jpg

BLp75Yv.jpg

The ancestor himself is some weak lich like enemy. The amulet is on his body.

4TbRWQO.jpg

ogumfF1.jpg

Aq9LaDX.jpg

Telle (finally) levels up in the dungeon and now gains access to three new spells.

kdw7vXo.jpg

6mrl4u6.jpg

kRpgRtt.jpg

Torry levels up too and gains a perk.

RFqzpnV.jpg

Deep in the dungeon are two more new enemy types: the rock tortoise and the weaver. The weaver has some highly damaging poison attack which is devastating to characters with low poison resistance like Loy and Telle.

0DDLi8j.jpg

NubAlN4.jpg

After clearing out the dungeon the group exits and returns the amulet. Solving the quest gives a very high amount of XP and a magic ring.

hencpAl.jpg

z3Eottf.jpg

JnOncQT.jpg

While back in town, Victor also decided to finally change his armour.

Ar6J43S.jpg

Torry now has access to the very damaging burning grenade… it’s much more powerful than any magic spell. Guess it’s balanced by very long cooldown and high weight.

3vgWdc1.jpg

Back in the dungeon, the group can now exit and move on to the next area.

25dUDfE.jpg

The exit is guarded by some Water mages, who compared to most of the other enemies in the dungeon are nothing but a slight nuisance.

vJREGVT.jpg

EKMbP6K.jpg

dhY5DWP.jpg

Exiting the dungeon leads into Bobrovo.

Part 13: Bobrovo

In Bobrovo area is the Cat Clan “traitor” Victor needs to find for a sidequest.

6vgESXm.jpg

inUIqUg.jpg

xVzECrt.jpg

Down the bluff from where the group starts are some very high level panthers… such high level difference seems odd considering up to now Victor has done all sidequests (as far as I am aware) and killed majority of enemies in the quest areas.

Though killing higher level enemies gives a sizable XP bonus so in the end it hardly even matters.

GYtcGoZ.jpg

phJsYWn.jpg

At least the enemies on the way to the town are more suitable level.

SJAKDrO.jpg

At Bobrovo station is a new joinable party member. To recruit him, though, we need to eject one party member. It’s time to part from the Outskirter.

vPJ4AFf.jpg

wt0NmLC.jpg

v5TuQUb.png
[to Loy] Hey beauty! We’ve met before, I could swear.

TMyOCqH.png
[indifferently] And where could that have been, Bear?

TMyOCqH.png
[Perking up with sudden interest] Wait a second, you’re that pretty face from the train. You’re the one who wooed me a couple of weeks ago, aren’t you?

v5TuQUb.png
[turning red in the face and hanging his head] Yeah… don’t be angry at me, dear beauty, I meant no offence… Oh magnificent Loy Iver, I’m Raytarr. You hardly remember me, but I’ve visited your famed parties.

TMyOCqH.png
Oh really? So what was it that you wanted to tell me, Raytarr?

v5TuQUb.png
Well… you see, I’m a plain man and can’t express it well… But I’d like to say that you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. Your eyes burn right into my soul, and your beauty swims in my head and drives me mad! I’d die for you, I swear! I’d follow you to the end of the world!

TMyOCqH.png
[purring with pleasure] What a nice speech, valiant Raytarr. Always a pleasure to hear it from a man like you… But [with regret] I’m busy at the moment and…

QvN9Jwn.png
Don’t blow him off, Loy, let him tag along. We have to fight the mages, and any help is useful.

TMyOCqH.png
Victor, are you sure?

QvN9Jwn.png
Absolutely.

TMyOCqH.png
Alright… Raytarr, you can join us. But you will have to obey my every command. Mine, and Victor’s…

v5TuQUb.png
[the huge Bear rattles down to his knees, eyes shining with rapture and devotion] I’m happy to serve you, Loy… it’s always been my dream.

So, Raytarr is basically to Loy what the Outskirter was to Victor… I wonder how this goes in the books.

v5TuQUb.png
I could help you too, Victor. A master of my clan lives in the settlement of Cats. He’s old and no longer fights. But if you prove yourself worthy, he can teach you a secret technique of the Bear clan.

QvN9Jwn.png
Tell me more about the old master.

v5TuQUb.png
His name is Bernard. He is a true master of the Bear style of fighting. I can talk him into teaching you, if you want.

j9JbwZu.jpg

At any rate, Raytarr is almost literally a tank. His monstrous regeneration (which can be boosted even more with a skill) means he doesn’t even need to be healed in combat.

7S0OWMJ.jpg

His Bear clan skills are all very powerful. A much better party member than the Outskirter.

C3osOVs.jpg

3DydJrE.jpg

H6wfAbw.jpg

f0PxeM5.jpg

sD54rO3.jpg

Like Rada, he also has a skill to transform into his totem animal.

y48ghrk.jpg

Metabolism skill means Raytarr can be mostly sent alone against any group of enemies. It’ll take some time but he’ll kill everything.

uY4eBi4.jpg

74KQtxX.jpg

In the station are some other NPCs to talk to. There’s a Raven here who offers a sidequest.

MRbOU0R.jpg

SpS09aE.jpg

v2YQqSj.jpg

The main quest in this area involves the train being stuck at the station.

78bqPp4.jpg

t6KM7e5.jpg

Near Bobrovo is also a small Wolf settlement. A Wolf chick here offers another sidequest.

gMhTngy.jpg

Cu1FEI4.jpg

iIQ3Rsa.jpg

As you know, “Sasha” is short for “Alexander” in Russian…

nJvJfbC.jpg

During one of the battles here I noticed a language bug with one of Rada’s skills…

wM22lV8.jpg

The group travels across the train tracks to the Raven settlement. This settlement is related to two sidequests: the one with the traitor and Sasha.

U2b328U.jpg

szbVSgv.jpg

Q1me1jz.jpg

The letter reveals the name of the Cat clan traitor.

CJIo3iU.jpg

Sasha is in the settlement, he needs to be escorted back to his mistress.

u0GAls9.jpg

iKMHNIB.jpg

On the way back I used Telle’s Parallax spell for the first time… it is a very useful spell but has one of those annoying light effects.

SKLSvYC.jpg

The reward for returning Sasha is not only a lot of XP but also the unlocking of a totem skill.

S2jdHFv.jpg

bVWGjyD.jpg

aCffUN6.jpg

s4dHBCT.jpg

Now the group will return to the Cat clan settlement through the secret passage to wrap up some sidequests.

Part 14: Valley of the Damned

Back in the Cat clan main building Victor confronts the traitor. Solving this problem for Loy earns Victor another totem skill.

4SR6sxi.jpg

IsXSMjf.jpg

fbUpOVv.jpg

TMyOCqH.png
Victor, you’ve helped my clan again. You can’t go unrewarded for your effort and risk.

QvN9Jwn.png
Don’t mention it, I haven’t done it for a reward…

TMyOCqH.png
Victor, I’m not forcing you to accept my gratitude… Just know that the clan leader can teach you the secret fighting style of the Cats. It’s your decision…

QvN9Jwn.png
Why, thank you…

Quite a low T way to end this sidequest tbh.

Next Victor goes to see the person who was to write that note for the Raven.

MTYKkpw.jpg

ZMbSjBy.jpg

CIxshhJ.jpg

Luckily Victor can “cheat” here and write the letter himself.

O59iCns.jpg

The old Bear clan warrior Raytarr was talking about will teach Victor another totem skill.

bc7BzYg.jpg

coyyMbG.jpg

hVFzThu.jpg

The Cat leader in the settlement will teach Victor a third totem skill.

lKZ3iES.jpg

J6iVDFT.jpg

The Wolf/Cat/Bear totem skills are mostly warrior related so not very useful for Victor.

The last totem skill to learn is the one from the Raven Clan it seems.

o8AyIZV.jpg

Back at Bobrovo station the matter with the Raven can be cleared up.

cQmrIdm.jpg

QgIMHB3.jpg

pemXJ7M.jpg

ZCCjPkg.jpg

bW0Ufcs.jpg

The group can now return to the main quest, i.e. dealing with the Valley of the Damned matter.

The Valley of the Damned cannot be easily reached, the group must enter it south from the Raven settlement.

4sP8ulc.jpg

Eventually the group finds a lone Raven mage on a hill… he falls quickly but not before summoning a shitload of demons.

uau6fWi.jpg

Cn2dTU3.jpg

HmL5YgI.jpg

Killing one demon immediately spawns two or three new ones… everything appears here from trolls, beholders, succubi, phantoms to spiders.

vSFCV08.jpg

0jOZ26T.jpg

Both Rada and Raytarr shapechanged here to wreck things quickly.

rbDs1M0.jpg

At any rate, eventually the demons stop spawning and the matter is dealt with. By now, Telle finally caught up with the rest of the group in level and gains another perk.

7WQyAGV.jpg

NBIIJwp.jpg

North of the Valley of the Damned, under the train bridge is a lone Dwarf that offers another escort side quest.

E27N19R.jpg

CCHnEyK.jpg

RLFx3ed.jpg

However, I had not counted on a ton of enemies appearing out of nowhere and the Dwarf did not make it.

6RUw1Qf.jpg

KmlxGHp.jpg

FWGOom5.jpg

Loy leveled up during this battle and gets to pick a perk for the first time.

1bWrUAn.jpg

Loy now gains access to two new skills… but they are both not very spectacular.

vHY4Phc.jpg

Summon Cat seems lame when Rada and Raytarr can shapechange… why can’t Loy shapechange into a panther?

4MeaKpG.jpg

As for Feline Speed… Loy is already more than fast enough without.

At any rate, now the main quest in Bobrovo is finished and Victor can finally go and deal with Torne, Loy’s watery ex-boyfriend.

Part 15: Hundfields

Hundfields is the biggest city on the world map, likely even the capital city of Midworld?

Telle urges Victor on but there’s not really any reason to hurry.

sHWOfyG.jpg

ydZAvmn.jpg

pShngMR.jpg

The conductor in the local station offers a new sidequest.

73NMJC7.jpg

cEZFdEN.jpg

There’s a student in the town centre with a crazy request… but he can be bullied into submission.

hTVl8kP.jpg

pId0F5d.jpg

Y6CRMWR.jpg

sy8RnXD.jpg

NcnRlLL.jpg

7ZRZ5Ff.jpg

An actual mage not too far away has a more serious request for Victor.

cCVivJ9.jpg

lzu5GRM.jpg

JQCJJ7B.jpg

One of the local innkeepers offers a delivery quest.

lf6NRjT.jpg

Ubz49rx.jpg

During one of the fights in the outskirts of the city, Rada reaches level 18 which means a new perk and access to a new skill.

gVfGjF2.jpg

NOHsKC6.jpg

When Victor reaches level 18, he gains access to two spells that combine two elements.

ps7bWxG.jpg

cSqDefD.jpg

Victor also chooses the Pure Energy perk… at least it sounds good on paper.

t1IY6zT.jpg

I tested out both Fire Wind and Storm spells during some fights… neither were really that impressive. Certainly not powerful enough to justify the high mana cost and cooldown.

B3uhqJZ.jpg

fFJdOU3.jpg

ca55eM8.jpg

Torry levels up near the city too and chooses another perk.

JFpvRuK.jpg

Back in the city, overlooking the city is a verbose sailor in need of help.

Snqgg5Y.jpg

LvYdS34.jpg

IyfBrJG.jpg

7wPmnRj.jpg

EY2qwTt.jpg

Kq5rBB7.jpg

The official needs to be bribed in order to finish the sailor’s quest quickly.

yC4jBEl.jpg

IcbJSu1.jpg

H70H6lE.jpg

Returning the permit to the sailor, Victor immediately gets the bribe money back.

aIHeJZT.jpg

3FQ9b2v.jpg

With nothing more to do in the city, it is time to move on to Torne’s palace area.

HWp7Yd3.jpg

uQdJiLw.jpg

Before heading to Torne’s palace, it is best to finish all sidequests first and level up a bit.

In this area is also the Water Mage Academy, where a book is located needed to finish a sidequest.

uOJ8tkF.jpg

The Academy is guarded by many higher level enemies.

UzEBFv5.jpg

4MLrynC.jpg

Many high level mages (highest level 26) need to be fought at the Water Academy, killing them all is arduous. The shiny spells they cast are the same as Telle’s Parallax spell, i.e. gaining very high evasion. Not to mention the mages can cure themselves to full health in an instant.

XSTt33H.jpg

EXxTcKV.jpg

irbFpO1.jpg

After grabbing the magic book, the group kills the rest of the mages at the back of the academy.

Ay7JOK5.jpg

jlPoIQV.jpg

Telle gains level 18 here, giving her a new perk but more importantly, access to two new spells.

b9PosPP.jpg

Now finally Telle can cast Soul Devourer. The 10% of chance of instant death may not seem much for now, but the spell has a relatively short cooldown. The mana cost is not an issue either since Telle’s mana regeneration is around 30/s at this point.

From now on, every level Telle gains a point will be put in Soul Devourer. It is really the most efficient way to kill some of the most annoying HP bloated enemies.

HmT6efa.jpg

The other spell, Eva’s Time, is highly useful as well.

KvTzqNp.jpg

Fighting past more Water enemies, the group finds the hermit in the upper left corner of the area to finish a sidequest.

DEeUWTv.jpg

BW4pLxL.jpg

QX0sBUh.jpg

hKskUhg.jpg

(I lost some screenshots around here, but nothing too important)

Victor went to see the smugglers for the Hundfields conductor, killed them all and found the mitrailleuse on one of the smugglers’ corpses.

KgZ6o64.jpg

Around here Raytarr levels up and gets to choose his first perk… something that gives him even more HP.

FVbK4Nc.jpg

Returning the mitrailleuse to the conductor, Victor immediately receives a minor quest to kill some Elves in the area.

n6VScBW.jpg

RALIPTx.jpg

It is a quest that is quickly finished, with fairly paltry rewards.

JLthdJ4.jpg

nE7anYh.jpg

zML4Heu.jpg

Also around this point, Loy reaches “super” speed, meaning traveling along the map she’ll be miles in front often blundering straight into enemy groups. The only way to remedy this is either weighing her down by having her carry all the excess loot, or raise other characters’ Agility highly enough too.

Zsw7jbZ.jpg

After returning the book to the mage (the reward was just some experience and gold) Victor is ready to face Torn.

Part 16: Wetwork

Torne’s Palace is crawling with water mages and water knights, but they can all be pulled out.

6nxCpaL.jpg

4P8Oa1Z.jpg

After killing the remaining guards on the palace grounds, Torne is completely isolated and almost defenseless.

Like Reetor, Torne disappears in a fart after he’s beaten.

7n7dlf3.jpg

tr0rnmb.jpg

AMGVXdq.jpg

The Water Initiation is complete now, Victor will only need to level up to use the new spells.

DFRlrDV.jpg

TMyOCqH.png
Victor! How are you? What happened?

QvN9Jwn.png
Nothing, everything is alright, it’s just initiation. I’ve already gotten used to this…

TMyOCqH.png
[nodding sympathetically] Well, it can’t be easy to absorb the power of one of the Elements… You must be in great pain now. Calm down, everything is over... [Loy is sliding forth furtively, clearly eager to give you a warm comforting embrace, but Telle’s icy voice cuts her initiative short].

vPlqSmD.png
Cut it out! You could’ve found a better time for sweet nothings! [She is is sniffing indignantly].

vPlqSmD.png
If you haven’t noticed we are right in heat of the battle with Water mages, who have gone mad. And at any moment their reinforcements may arrive. We have to get out of here, the sooner the better!

QvN9Jwn.png
Wait, Telle! First I have some questions for you… and this time I want to get the answers!

vPlqSmD.png
Victor, it isn’t the right mo… [she stops short, meeting your eye]. Oh Lords, alright! Come on, ask quickly!

QvN9Jwn.png
I heard Reetor and Torne say some names, the meaning of which I don’t understand: the Highest Ones, Slayer and Winged Lords. Explain, what is it all about?

vPlqSmD.png
[Telle is hesitating for some times, pensively reeling off head-to-toe. Then she starts speaking in a monotonous voice as if she was in front of a class].

vPlqSmD.png
The Dragon Slayer is the quintessence of what is called annihilation. It is the ability to turn everything that surrounds you to your advantage. No matter whether dead stones or living people. The Slayer thus has an exceptional aptitude for any magic, be it totemic or elemental.

vPlqSmD.png
A Slayer can hate. Can hate like no other living being in the world. Hatred is his primary weapon. He wields this loathing into himself and this, Victor, this is far more powerful than any kind of magic. Never, you hear, never even in the most outrageous battle do enemies hate each other so hard as a Slayer can hate. In fact one could say he is the very incarnation of Hate himself.

tl;dr: a glittering gem of hatred.

TMyOCqH.png
Is that what the books say, Telle? Or is this your personal belief?

vPlqSmD.png
[rubbing her forehead wearily] Those books do not exist, Loy Iver, but nobody knows exactly how one becomes a Slayer. Reetor was the last Slayer, and he is the only one who knows. Probably it depends on a person’s desire… something genuine and deep. With Reetor nobody was killed by a Winged Lord, but he was always obsessed with his clan’s freedom… [Telle is grinning bitterly]. And now he has succeeded. But he hasn’t taken the Highest Ones into account.

QvN9Jwn.png
Just who are these Highest Ones? You are talking about them as if they are some kind of monster!

TMyOCqH.png
Well, actually, that’s more-or-less what they are. Nobody knows what the Highest Ones look like; they don’t have any clear form, just like air or time. You must already know that there are three sides of the world, Victor. The Inside where you come from is the embodiment of order. You don’t – or almost don’t have any magic there, and all the laws of the world are clearly defined. Here, in the Midworld, everything is much more complicated… and in the Highworld there is neither law nor forms at all.

TMyOCqH.png
Their armies attack Midworld again and again using their ships with black sails and eagly heads. We are fighting them, driving them back to the sea, but they come back again and again. This time we might not succeed. There are no Dragons – Winged Lords of the Past, protecting us from invasion. And the Highest Ones… I heard they have Dragon the Created on their side!

QvN9Jwn.png
Dragon the Created? You mean artificially created?

TMyOCqH.png
That’s absolutely right. Nobody knows how they managed it, but the mages… they feel the approaching menace. Everybody tries to handle it the way they believe is right. Rumour has it that Reetor tried to call forth a new Dragon, but nobody knows whether he succeeded. And Torne has called upon the Dragon Slayer, who gained Midworld its freedom. Everything is in chaos… mages are fighting each other… and all of them are afraid of you, Victor. They are afraid that you will take away their power.

QvN9Jwn.png
And you? You, Loy Iver, and you, Telle? Why are you helping me?

TMyOCqH.png
Telle is the last one of the Unknown Clan. Her duty is to be your Conductor on this way… That is probably as much as we can understand. The Unknown have always been the most secretive clan; their motives become clear from the results of their actions. And I… I hope you will manage to stop the invasion of the Highest Ones, Victor… whoever you are. I believe you will manage to use the powers you are obtaining in the right way.

vPlqSmD.png
[silently nods in agreement with Loy].

QvN9Jwn.png
Well, that’s clear. Seems like we really don’t have the time to go on with this conversation for now… Where are we going now, Telle?

vPlqSmD.png
To the Princedom of Earth. It is the last stop on the Way of Dwarfs – there you can get the Earth initiation from one of the local mages. I hope to meet Andre – although he is a great lover of books, spending years in his libraries. Recently he’s been emerging to accept invitations of vassals. If we have an opportunity to grab him at one of those… hmmm, what do you call them… parties, then we can consider ourselves lucky.

QvN9Jwn.png
So, are we taking a train then?

vPlqSmD.png
We might as well take a train, but I don’t trust public transport much these days. There is a Bear settlement and a railcar station not far from here, near the ruins of the old Dragon’s Temple. The Dwarf transport the railcars along the Way and ride them on a regular basis… Maybe they will agree to take some passengers. This way we’ll draw less attention than if we show up at the train station.

QvN9Jwn.png
A train or a railcar from the nearest station, eh? Hmmm… alright, I see. Let’s move!

BWIxzWH.jpg

Inside the palace can be found Torne’s book… it appears a quest item so maybe it’ll come in useful later?

1Z39tcQ.jpg

Rada leveled up in the fight with Torne and picks another perk.

FsTHb88.jpg

Not far from the area exit is a group of Elves in need of help.

MbhwDEP.jpg

Xkn2pEj.jpg

There’s a large group of bandits with guns that need taking care of; one of Torry’s explosives takes them all out at once.

6WICkLi.jpg

pjGBVJo.jpg

One of the rewards is Hand of the figurine, after the leg this is the second part of this figurine Victor picks up. Guess there’ll be more pieces to be gained later.

Part 17: Wolves and bears oh my

Sharn Castle is a big area with a Bear clan settlement, trolley and cemetery right in the middle of the map.

Eeejref.jpg

1zHXVDt.jpg

The enemies in the area are some leftover Water mages and Raven clan.

ljTtPbw.jpg

OO140Ym.jpg

Torry gets to pick another perk here at level 21.

n2MWFm7.jpg

The Dwarf at the handrail cart will refuse to transport Victor unless some Bear clan issues are dealt with.

OlPriWL.jpg

However the area is also swarming with giant rats.

zvYgCKf.jpg

The mighty Ancient Rat gives a whopping 10,000 xp when killed.

XlTarHr.jpg

At level up Victor picks a barter perk; overall Loy is still better at bartering though.

yFq0x3v.jpg

Victor now also switches from pistol to musket; at this point Victor has the highest single damage output in the party, before Raytarr. DPS wise, though, Loy is best but she is squishy.

d9rKTNi.jpg

At level 23 Raytarr gains access to two new Bear skills. Stone Breaker in particular is great; Summon Bear is inferior to the Shapechange.

XmjBTii.jpg

nUpnqUf.jpg

At the Bear settlement are some sidequests to fulfill.

kXurwb0.jpg

U3A41LP.jpg

JXJp6aW.jpg

The Elder Bear has some other work for Victor.

DDJDxjf.jpg

59gbavp.jpg

1nNzJZ8.jpg

The ambassadors are not too far from the settlement so Victor pursues this first.

JWsyena.jpg

Upon arrival it appears the ambassadors are assailed by bandits and can barely defend themselves.

After killing the bandits it turns out Rada knows some of them.

This is some fun optional dialogue; what would happen if Rada was not in the party?

Returning to Denthur Victor is rewarded. Also Victor immediately receives a new quest.

uGgS0SV.jpg

Now at level up Victor gains access to two new powerful spells, courtesy of that cafuffle with Torne not too long ago.

fZQGUyh.jpg

At level 23 Rada gains access to a Summon Wolf skill, again this is inferior to the Shapechange.

UwKZFZp.jpg

At level 23 Loy gains access to the useful Hurricane Pirouette.

if8Hnsw.jpg

Dealing with the bandit gang, it turns out they are mostly made up of archers, which makes for an annoying battle.

Skrae8H.jpg

6RKYHtY.jpg

After this, Victor heads to the central cemetery, predictably the issue turns out to be Undead.

This is one of those annoying battles where enemies just keep spawning; the undead can cause both Poison and Stun and aside from Rada all party members are quite weak to this.

Returning to Denthur, he now offers another quest to watch over the parley between Wolf and Bear clan.

If Victor chooses to stay out of it, the Bear clan will kill all Wolf ambassadors. Choosing to interfere, Victor still needs to pick the right dialogue option to prevent the ambassadors from getting wiped out.

The Wolf clan lost the debate but at least keep their lives.

Great job, Victor! You sorted it out all right!

TMyOCqH.png
[softly] You also deserve praise, the way you’ve acted, valiant Raytarr. I am surprised with your self-possession and tact, in a situation as… delicate as this one. [This is the first time in Victor’s memory when proud Tabby took notice of the Bear who has been following her like a shadow.]

v5TuQUb.png
I don’t deserve it, really… but thank you, Ms. Loy.

QvN9Jwn.png
All right. Time to go. I think the dwarfs on the trolley will now agree to give us a lift to the Princedom of Earth.

Several party members now level up and new perks are in order.

As soon as the group arrives in the station Victor is approached by a young woman.

Finally some C&C I guess.

Feros is a walled city, one does not simply enter it.

On the way to the city yet another woman approaches Victor.

In this area again are many groups of giant rats. They’re annoying but easy xp at least.

GA5vBhG.jpg

At level up Telle gets another perk. Now her mana regeneration has become so monstrous that potions are not even needed anymore.

DpFW03J.jpg

riVNrW1.jpg

At any rate, after killing the robbers there is some surprise.

PotUQCs.jpg

There’s a small cutscene of Leda backstabbing and one shotting Victor. It was all a trap.

WRluo49.jpg

dgpLobg.jpg

Killing the bitch, she drops a letter and unique talisman.

h1rktCb.jpg

zE4wWSt.jpg

It seems Reetor sends his regards.

H8leRVs.jpg

The various robber groups in this area are very annoying. They’re mostly archers, meaning nary a defense against damage. Not to mention they can inflict status effects like Knockdown, Poison, Stun and Bleeding to which low Build party members like Loy are very sensitive.

dAdIj8Q.jpg

Returning to the main quest, turns out entry to the city is forbidden.

QtvmHvB.jpg

JMQbieN.jpg

2vcRuCU.jpg

P7IPlC0.jpg

Seems Telle is referring to “sally port” rather than “wicket”.

vPlqSmD.png
A wicket – a small, often concealed door, used by spies during sieges. It’s bound to be guarded by an ordinary gatekeeper, who we might manage to talk into letting us in. We can’t miss this opportunity – this “guest of honor” is probably the very man we need.

QvN9Jwn.png
Thought of everything, eh Telle? All right, let’s find that wicket.

HwG4GOg.jpg

The “wicket” is not far from the main gate.

noBtOyi.jpg

Nar3ufN.jpg

NmXPJcc.jpg

The healer is not far off but demands 10,000 gold for the trouble. You’d think Telle should be able to cast one of her healing spells instead.

Some group members level up here; Victor now has access to Exoskeleton skill which greatly increases his defense.

NI1XtYL.jpg

Loy gains access to Deceit, a curious passive skill.

q1hb8QO.jpg

At the Feros town centre is a sobbing woman in need of help. Bleeding heart Victor again obliges.

Ka4h9qP.jpg

Q7PGarU.jpg

Nearby is already the traitorous Gafford to deal with. He is swiftly killed.

The phantom drops a wedding ring that should be returned to the wife.

Reporting back to the wife doesn’t earn any special reward.

It is now time to crash a party (conveniently at Earth Anti-Hour just to be sure).

NTbB24h.jpg

ntL8PPy.jpg

There are earth mages outside the party hall but they are not (yet) hostile.

WMPT03s.jpg

Cb9dICH.jpg

Telle has a cunning plan to deal with this situation.

8LOopRl.jpg

QvN9Jwn.png
You always have a plan, don’t you?

vPlqSmD.png
[not paying the slightest attention to your words, as usual] I think I know how we can get us to the feast, and past the guards without fighting.

QvN9Jwn.png
What feast?

vPlqSmD.png
Haven’t you heard the word on the street? Some powerful Earth mage has come to town. He’s having a rest in the castle and the local prince arranged a feast in his honor. We don’t know for sure if it’s Andre, but the chances are good. The place is crawling with guards and commoners, so we can’t afford a brazen attack. Andre would just slip away without engaging us.

QvN9Jwn.png
So what do we do then?

vPlqSmD.png
Let me act as a promising country girl who has recently discovered some magic ability. You will pretend to be my brother, looking after me in our travels. They feast in honor of Andre, although that doesn’t mean that he’ll be showing up to begin with. But if he hears about a girl who might someday be a great mage, he won’t keep us waiting. Then I’ll deal with the guards and you will be able to… discuss the initiation.

QvN9Jwn.png
Sounds good… let’s try it.

vPlqSmD.png
Excellent. Just don’t forget to play up to me… and speak simpler, you do have villages in the Inside, don’t you? So act like you’re from the country, there’s no big difference. [With that said, she confidently heads back to the guard].

Telle’s plan actually works. Inside the party hall is some more hilarity.

The group then walks all the way back to Princedom station to pick up a box of screws.

Back in Feros, Victor finds two more quest givers, a nurse and a healer.

mXLcj19.jpg

E1VbuDj.jpg

17F8yqC.jpg

At this point Victor has two of the three books the healer wants; no idea where the third book is.

It’s not impossible the third book is a quest reward for one of the two or three sidequests that Victor failed.

egix46M.jpg

nfXtcxN.jpg

After returning the screws to the physicist he offers another quest.

xOn4im7.jpg

LN7zHNC.jpg

NY801uz.jpg

No idea where those plans are.

Delivering the medicine for the nurse, one of the patients will need to be killed. It’s better to be quiet about this to the nurse so she offers a new quest.

Of course, on the way there are several groups of Earth mages to be dealt with.

efeh04t.jpg

9z0YoFw.jpg

2OluUle.jpg

There are several level ups at this point, Rada for one at this stage reaches complete immunity to poison which is useful against certain enemies.

y98HX97.jpg

5BboAnz.jpg

ifyo4za.jpg

With Money Maker perk Victor will now be better at bartering than Loy.

Yaja6sV.jpg

q6i6Fyz.jpg

Telle gets another magic related perk; her low strength is a liability though with regards to movement speed.

HYqpIU2.jpg

As reward for the bandit quest Victor receives a cool suit of steampunk armour, but he cannot yet wear it.

IwWcIci.jpg

Now the group can finally go to Andre; there are some golems guarding the way to Andre’s abode but especially Loy can tear through the lumbering hulks quickly.

ku7OW9N.jpg

Andre has a large horde of Earth mages and golems to guard him that need to be dealt with. It is not hard though; Earth magic is mainly defensive and has p. weak offense.

qaRzVqj.jpg

tTarioU.jpg

Andre himself is also nothing special.

1BS5C54.jpg

The old fart cannot be reasoned with no matter what Victor says.

GH7Y3us.jpg

ZgHVKJR.jpg

Andre just summons some more golems, nothing really special at this point.

Like the other elemental clean leader cucks Andre just disappears.

[keep silent, to maintain a mysterious air. It helps to look cooler.]

TMyOCqH.png
That’s what they call out of the frying pan into the fire. I hope you know what you are doing, Unknown. I will surely help you to the best of my humble abilities but… if you make a false move, you know we are all going to die.

TMyOCqH.png
Either way, we cannot go to Oros by foot. It’s a long way to go. We need to find a transport.

QvN9Jwn.png
What transport are you talking about?

TMyOCqH.png
I’ve seen a nice horse barn somewhere around here. After brief negotiations, local horsemen will give us a carriage and a couple of horses with pleasure, I am sure.

QvN9Jwn.png
OK let it be horses. Let’s go find your horsemen.

Y0rFIrm.jpg

Victor now has access to the most powerful Earth spell, Earthquake. I suppose its knock down could be useful.

abowwvl.jpg

Now at the local stable, Loy does some “negotiations”.

Part 20: Road to Oros

Of course, on the way to Oros the carriage just happens to break down.

NsTmWOm.jpg

The last part of the journey to Oros will have to go by foot.

uWOEKi0.jpg

There are several mage groups along the road. However, it is recommended to leave the road and kill some level 30+ animal groups to level up.

9idtZFk.jpg

At level 28 Telle finally gets the vaunted “Touch of Death”.

Part 21: Oros

The Oros area has level 30+ enemies and the rats are back too.

G3r3ydg.jpg

There’s a fishing village in the lower corner of the local map with a sidequest.

ZxePGQB.jpg

UDerfPT.jpg

wzm18ee.jpg

At level 29 Victor gains the most powerful spell in the game although he hasn’t yet finished all initiations.

pA8asAW.jpg

The bandits are easily dealt with; the reward is another figurine part.

QvFZBqa.jpg

oq8KPv8.jpg

jK4tJni.jpg

Raytarr becomes level 30 a short while after finishing the sidequest; another perk is his.

Because majority of enemies are higher level than Victor’s group, most of the loot picked up cannot be used which is annoying.

w4vNs85.jpg

Victor tests out the Elemental Tempest spell, it is indeed powerful but takes a long while to cast… better to just have Torry lob a cluster bomb.

9a03OMA.jpg

Killing higher level enemies means a substantial XP bonus; several group members level up shortly after Raytarr.

The fire mages who guard the road to Oros can summon fire demons (who are obv. immune to fire). Offensively the fire mages are probably the most dangerous of all elemental clans.

eSTHysR.jpg

nTo8DVs.jpg

kf83gjm.jpg

Killing the level 37 mages gets Telle to level up.

vS4FBy9.jpg

In the city of Oros Victor finds a NPC that needs the figurine. Solving the quest gives more than 2 million XP which immediately levels up most of the group.

zmTE6OE.jpg

sar4Ect.jpg

8Cf38My.jpg

Another reward is a unique plate armour that Raytarr cannot yet wear due to level restrictions.

nqKJbTh.jpg

To finish the Fire initiation the group needs to enter the lower part of Oros.

pEE4eHO.jpg

jXP2DlS.jpg

In Lower Oros none of the guards and mages will be hostile which is a nice change of pace.

Inside the palace Victor meets the Fire Clan leader Liz.

lVJiQKj.jpg

Killing everyone inside the palace triggers a conversation with Telle.

vPlqSmD.png
Well, Victor, you have passed all initiations now. Tell me – how do you feel now that the power of all Elements is at your feet?

QvN9Jwn.png
Strange. It feels like a bomb that’s about to explode at any moment.

vPlqSmD.png
No wonder. You are a bomb – one man is not supposed to possess so much power… such incredible, gigantic power. Only Dragons, Winged Lords of the Elder Times, had enough capacity to retain and use such amounts of magic and yet live. As well as the Slayer, a human created by the mages, who imbibed such power for the sole purpose of killing Dragons.

QvN9Jwn.png
What am I to do with the power, Telle? Conquer the world? Save the world?

vPlqSmD.png
You may do whatever you want, Victor. But you have to understand what world I am talking about in the first place, and this… is a long story.

QvN9Jwn.png
It’s okay, I’ll muster my patience and listen…

vPlqSmD.png
The Midworld was ruled by Dragons. All the time.

vPlqSmD.png
No one knew where they came from. Perhaps not even the Winged Lords themselves knew it… They preserved order in their world, established the Law and made sure it was followed. They punished the disobedient mercilessly. Dragons restrained the powers of mages and did not allow them to learn all the secrets of elemental magic. But the Lords kept the Midworld from incursions of the Highborn. Dragons restrained the hostility of mages with the same ease that a strict parent restrains misbehaving kids. They were great defenders and great tyrants…

QvN9Jwn.png
And? What happened to them?

vPlqSmD.png
Along came the Slayer… The mages broke out in revolt, as they had the heart to rise against the Lords. Mages initiated the Slayer and he wiped out the race of Dragons. The Midworld gained its freedom but lost its protection. The next invasion of the Highborn may be the last for all of us living in the Midworld…

Is it just me or does this all sound p. allegorical?

QvN9Jwn.png
But still… you have said before that it was me who could save us from the Highborn and Liz called me the Lord… so it means that I am a Dragon, doesn’t it?

vPlqSmD.png
You are neither Dragon, nor Slayer. You can become one of them if you enter the Outer World Castle. But you will have a choice…

vPlqSmD.png
It’s up to you, now and forever. Your decisions will change the world. If you want to follow this path to the end, then let us move on. It is not easy to get to the Outer World Castle.

QvN9Jwn.png
I see. So we are in for another trip instead of a well deserved rest. OK, let’s get going. I hope this one is going to be the last.

vPlqSmD.png
[nodding thoughtfully] Yes, haste is now more important than motives… But reaching the island may not be so easy. I thought I would be able to open the door… here, in Upper Oros… but I was wrong. I can feel a path going to the Outer World Castle but there is something blocking it. It looks like the guiding lights, which lure travelers to a lifeless desert. Someone had closed the door, with a very old and unusual magic.

QvN9Jwn.png
So we have to find another way?

vPlqSmD.png
No, there is no other way. We have to figure out how to go this way. Time… we don’t have time but we’ll have to chance it anyway. We’ll got to the abandoned castle not far from here. It used to be the fortress of Dragons but now it’s… well, let’s call it a monastery. The residents of the castle are exiles from the Clan of Fire who refused to accept the departure of the Winged Lords. If someone put up the guarding spells, it was them.

QvN9Jwn.png
A monastery not far from here… so that is it? Telle, I hope you know what you are doing.

vPlqSmD.png
[nods] Yes, that’s right. I wonder what Dragon worshippers, which is how inhabitants of this strange monastery describe themselves, might need – but we have no time for doubts at the moment. Meeting them will do us no harm anyway.

The group needs to find their way outside but the monastery is very close.

KMslJr8.jpg

There’s a Dragon worshiper to talk to.

At least talking to the worshiper gives more than 3 million XP which causes everyone to level up.

Btw, the Fire Initiation earned Victor the Supernova spell, p. powerful.

The enemies may be much higher level but at this point Torry’s grenades and Telle’s Death spells are so potent that they are not really a threat.

Furthermore, killing higher level enemies leads to quick level up.

In the heart of the dungeon are the Dragon Boots and Gauntlets. At least these items don’t require that high a level to use.

yUeIH1I.jpg

After picking up the Dragon items Telle will offer to immediately open a path to the next dungeon. However, it is better to leave the dungeon on foot and sell off all excess loot.

11PSLdc.jpg

QvN9Jwn.png
Do you mean to say that the route to the Outer World Castle is open?

vPlqSmD.png
[frowns and shakes her head] No, Victor… are you a kid or what? Didn’t you listen to what that mage was saying? The route to the Dragon’s Island will only open after we collect all the elements of the armour, and you have only two so far. The path I was talking about leads to the next dungeon – it is open for us now. This is the short way that leads to the catacombs under the ruins of Babhchi Castle… [she makes a pause as if thinking over something intently].

vPlqSmD.png
It looks like I could lead us through this passage. It will take only a couple of minutes. What do you think?

QvN9Jwn.png
Let me think… Let’s first search the rest of this dungeon, OK? That way we can collect all the trophies, and I don’t really want to leave any of these beasts alive…

vPlqSmD.png
As you say. But we better not stay here for too long, OK? We don’t have much time, I’m afraid.

AMCK5jH.jpg

Telle will whine again when Victor tries to leave the dungeon. Again, we need to sell off excess loot.

HtbaG is average RPG with some ideas.
Like outfits system. Can't go there? Wear their clothes. Problem solved.
Pity it's not bleak grim like a book or movie (although last movie was hilarious Stalker-esque parroting attempt).
