Is those pointy things the goblin riders have swords? Thought they were spears. I haven't actually fought the goblins much since I just can't stand them. Kinda forced now though since it's a war and all. Ambushers make me cry, especially in combination with orcs.

They have a sword/dagger hybrid. I noticed their spear main attack costs 5 AP instead of the usual 6 for 2h, really cool.

So quick hands is really good. If you have initative advantage since you can start with a shield, wait, switch to 2h weapon, mow them down, then switch back to the shield at the start of your turn at no cost at all.


Wow. Sure the game has some obscure-ish rules and all, but come on. The basics are really easy to find out, and overlooking the party formation in the inventory/dude-management screen? How does that even happen?

Score of 84 though, so there's that. Basically a 15 on the usual 8-10 scale if they were honest... Considering what normally gets the better scores :D

This is the worst documented game I have ever played. I like it a lot, so I persevered, but there is a truckload of unexplained mechanics. Linking to youtube videos is a joke. Even the wiki is very sparse.

I just killed my first Orc Warlord.

First I killed all the orc youngs and retreated...

Then the two orc warriors and retreated...

And finally the big guy. I also got my first two legendary items.

I feel like a noob :negative:

I did that against a necromancer + bandit group. The weidergangers were just too much, retreated and saw only 2 units in stack -- attacked back and killed them. Didn't get the loot, did get the XP though. So eh.

guys,how you progress from shield bros/back line with polearms to 2handed heavy armor?i usually have only 1 bro with 2handed weapon by day 100,buying hedge knights is quite expensive and they dont have good stats either.

I get by without ever purchasing expensive backgrounds, for one. You can hire multiple farmers/whatevers for the same cost and fire any with shit stats.

2H guys don't really come online until Reach Advantage at level six. You'll want them in scale armour or better with 80 or so fatigue minimum, with 60+ HP and pumped melee defence. So up until the point you buy Reach Advantage, you're getting HP to the right level and pumping melee, fatigue, and your defences. YMMV, but before Reach Advantage, I'll put Student, Pathfinder, Brawny and Gifted on a guy destined for 2H use by the time he takes Reach Advantage. He'll be a great S&B trooper until then. Anticipation and Underdog are other good options for them, if you want to experiment. Hope that helps.

There other competitive perks out there.
Colossus to improve his survival chance at low levels is a good pick to replace Student.
Quick hand so he can be flexible on the back line, wielding Nets, Crossbow, and Polearm.
Once the transition period is over, he can start a fight with a kite shield so he doesn't get targeted by ranged attacks on the frontline.

i mean economically,how to get the many thousands to buy 2handed weapons and armors with 200-300 hp

to outfit 4 bros with 2handed and scale armor i need around 25000 gold which is very difficult to amass in 70-80 days,getting them from other merc companies is very risky,i once lost 6 guys trying to get a fucking lammellar armor off a hedge knight.

Oh. Equal parts looting off dead enemies and buying them for cheaps when possible.

Sometimes hiring an expensive background is kind of worth it too. I hired a hedge knight for like 4,400 crowns and he came with a greatsword, chain armor, and flat top helmet.

There's some ambitions that dramatically raise your prices (getting 12 men for example.)

EDIT: Some figgus is playing the game on twitch and he doesn't have the AI slodown thing going on.

Is this a selective issue?

Do you put Quick Hands on your 2H guys for that shield? It always seems like a waste to me.
I don't really like Colossus because it scales. The guys that need it most benefit least.
Student supports the strategic game much better, IMO, by helping with casualty replacement as efficiently as possible.

colossus also protects against injuries,with bigger hp pool the chance to get injuries decreases.

It's the simplest solution to not having him targeted by ranged units in mid-late game. Kite shield is 20 RDEF - that's worth at least 4-5 levels of pumping RDEF. They'll end up shooting someone else.
Crossbow marksman fucks over armor. I rather not have him scratched by range fire before he actually starts dishing out damage.
The fatigue cost is worth it to make him be ignored by marksman on first turn alone.

For early to mid game, his backline role is enhanced by quick hand too, when you have Crossbow, Net and Polearm - anything is beatable.

The game needs absolutely no documentation at all. It has combat log, it has tooltips for everything. Fucking kids those days.

If I can easily get in the game cold with my decades of substance abuse and declined cognitive functions, anyone can.

also guys what type of bro background you use for dedicated archers?i find poachers/boywers to be pretty shity and i always use hunters which are expensive to buy and replace(1000-1500 each).
i havent tried witchhunters yet,do they come with good ranged stats?

Witch hunters can be ok, plus they're decent melee hybrids from the get-go. My best archer was actually a daytaler with high starting ranged skill, Iron Lung (fuck, this trait is awesome) and 2 stars... and yeah, replacing archers is a pain.

More Quick Hands propaganda.

Party with frontline that has reasonable Ranged skill + javelins + main weapon + Quick Hands = mayhem. There's even room for a secondary weapon or net.

On Ironman at least tactical versatility beats specialisation every time. It's crucial to have as many bros as possible attacking with as high efficiency as possible on as many rounds as possible. The ability to switch weapons without penalty is vital to this. Round 1, throw a couple javelins. Round 2, enemy makes contact, so switch to melee weapon and attack + attack/shieldwall/riposte/whatever. If some bros have spears as secondaries, they can throw up a spearwall where it's needed at zero notice. There's also no fatigue cost to switching.

I give all my frontliners Quick Hands as a matter of course. It really is that important. Second-liners can take something else as they'll be switching a lot less often.

round 3 enemy rekts your front line because you dont use specialised tanks with colossus/steel brow etc.

Okay, somehow the most dangerous thing in the game, melee wise must be goblin riders. I haven't met anything that do so much consistent damage, even to heavier armored guys. Yes, I know about piercing and such(you guys explained it), but to be honest this feel a bit like bullshit. All levels up and such means nothing when facing these guys.

They just entered number two on my top 5 hate/avoid-for-the-love-of-god list.

I'm considering whether I should restart.
The current game for some reason is slooooow.
Might be tied to the map layout, since it means constant long travels between cities to find some decent contracts.
Also, in ~50 days, I found 2(!) bros with an archer-centric background (actually 3, but the 3rd was too expensive) and both turned out to have shit ranged skill, despite having stars in it.
One of them got hit by an enemy throwing axe and died, the other is still in my band, even has 3 stars in ranged, but only 48 skill at lvl 4. :negative:

I think it shifts the range of starting skills around a bit. So no guarantees, but higher probability for certain skills.

At least new town destruction system is optional. I prefer doomed and dying worlds in my game.
