I just had the worst one skull contract ever. 4 poachers and 4 raiders purched 3 levels above my bros. The raiders couldn't be coaxed to move. We had to go to them, uphill. :argh: Two serious injuries and one lost level 5 Bro who got peppered with 6 arrows in one round.

And then you get forest map or get bad position on rocky terrain.
Archers are great on plains or good position. But a lot of times i had fights where each enemy is LOS and with shieldwall.

How do you recover from losses of high-lvl brothers in Ironman?


Do game gets easier when you fill ranks with low-lvl recruits?

Or you face same contracts (same amount of enemies and their difficulty) that had your lvl 10 brother killed with new lvl 1 brothers?

I.e. how much game scales with time passed?

also the orks have to get up close anyway so its irrelevant if its forest, plains or whatever the hell else

2-handed sword looks better, with axe you can just attack 1 target. With sword its 2 in line or 3 near you (axe cant AOE unless you stand alone).

dat 2-tile reach on longaxes tho

The only thing BB has over Mordheim is that its interface isn't a piece of shit.

Mordheim has much worse out of combat gameplay as it's basically a screen that you visit between missions and nothing more. You finish a mission, go to your management screen, do some stuff and back to another mission.
BB makes that feel much more natural and involved what with all the resource management and so on.

Also loot kinda sucks in Mordheim, even purple items don't feel especially powerful.

Level ups in Mordheim are also not so interesting as in BB. Here you get abilities that really change a bro every level.

Generally apart from maybe graphics (if you prefer 3d instead of 2d) and maybe setting, I can't find something better in Mordheim. And I like Mordheim a lot mind you

I just want some more diversity and tactical options.

- Spec guys as scouts/irregulars, let you deploy them in the flanks/behind enemy troops
- Malazan style sappers (that tend to blow themselves up if they are not careful)
- Maps with interesting features (bridges, fortifications etc.)

Plx buy 100,000 copies so I can has my expansion.

When fighting in mountains one of my guys spawned on a tile that was so elevated that he couldn't move at all. However, he could still be attacked with a polearm. Thankfully, there was only one zombie with pitchfork, if I lost a bro because of that I would rage sooo fucking hard.

Mordheim combat is imo far less dull than BB

Far more variety in tactics and tools to use


Like BB has literally one cookie cutter weapon composition that you are best off using 99% of the time with some minor frontline variations lategame. I got bored out of my mind with BB by like third campaign because it all felt the same.

The biggest problem with the game is how long AI turns are. The second biggest problem is that there is 0 variety in battle setups, at least until the endgame (didn't get there yet). It's always your mob vs theirs with 5 tiles inbetween. Sure, there is different terrain, but it only goes so far. And they actually removed the only variety there was (graveyards), what the fuck? The game badly needs different battlemaps and different objectives for battles. The systems themselves are solid with seemingly no exploits and AI is decent as well.

The lack of variety isn't helped by the fact that tryhards like me are funneled into battling bandits almost all the time.

Right now I have:

Spearmen, to keep charging enemies at bay with spearwall.

Two handed bros in three varieties: Hammers, that can tank particularly troublesome enemies by staggering and overwhelming them; axes, that need to charge ahead and get surrounded by six enemies to get things rolling; and swords, that can hit 2 rows deep and take care of polearm enemies.

Shield bros, that can also keep troublesome enemies preoccupied with taunts and just turtling it up.

Ranged bros, again in three varieties: Bowmen, that specialize in sniping out VIP targets like other marksmen or necromancer, and can overwhelm a sizable proportion of the enemy force when not doing that; crossbowmen, that specialize in getting heavily armoured enemies out of their tin can with a bolt to the head; and hybrids, that can do a bit of sniping and, when the lines clash, take out a pike to control enemy movement, or a longaxe and start bringing down shields.

And a build I've been experimenting with lately, and is rapidly becoming my favourite: the legionary, he throws axes or javelins to the enemy as they approach (so he needs some points in ranged attack), and when the enemy is in front of him, he takes out his melee weapon and starts claiming scalps :P

I just rotate whenever I feel like it (or depending on what enemy I'm going to fight).

And I don't even use some builds that have been around, like the one-hand dodgy duelist, or the overwhelm dagger specialist.

One composition? Good lord.

Btw it seems that TB mentioned during the stream that he intends to do a "WTF is" video for BB. That is really good publicity for the game, I hope it happens indeed

BB's "out of combat gameplay" boils down to visiting a screen between missions and restocking on stuff. That's hardly different to Mordheim, the only difference is more legwork and money sinking.

Also loot kinda sucks in Mordheim, even purple items don't feel especially powerful.

Apart from the white/blue/purple item progression, you also have enchantments, and there's a fuckton of them. You also have a lot bigger variety within weapon types. In BB, many of them follow a linear progression that is not unlike the white/blue/purple one, with small damage/normal damage/big damage - bows, crossbows (sans spiked impaler) and all 1h weapons that I can think of are guilty of it, p sure the only ones that offer variety are the 2h weapons (axes, polearms, swords). Now compare to Mordheim ranged options for humans for instance - hunting rifle, blunderbuss, crossbow, bow, handgun, pistols. And then enchantments on top.

Level ups in Mordheim are also not so interesting as in BB. Here you get abilities that really change a bro every level.

Fake news.

For starters, many of the perks in BB are very obvious trap options. Second, once you play for a while you'll notice that you just keep taking the same perks (with minimal differences) for nearly all dudes of a particular type, and those types are more or less divided into: 2h guy, duellist, shield guy, archer; and the first three are going to overlap heavily in a bunch of perks anyway. I've often found myself thinking very hard in BB which perk to take, and not because all of them looked like must-have very important and useful picks, but because I had to decide which one looked the least useless.

Mordheim allows for much more tweaking and flexibility in how you develop your dudes. Suffice to say, again, humans and ranged characters. In BB, my 3 bowmen are completely identical, and the 4th crossbow guy is only ever so slightly different. They also all function just about the same in combat. Meanwhile in Mordheim, I have a near-melee range blunderbuss guy who can hit many dudes with one hit, but is in trouble if caught, a sniper-poker longbowman, a dual-pistol mid-range/high damage guy, and a captain that can exchange between sword and board/pistols as he sees fitting depending on the circumstances - and while I could also make a 'hybrid' in BB with idk sword+shield/javelins, this guy's use will not depend on circumstances, it will be the same every fight - start with some javelining, then change to melee once enemies get close, and they will get close typically around round 2/3 depending on enemy type, because every single damn combat map is the same "you start on the left, they start on the right, I want a good clean fight! Let's get it on!"

If only it had some actual damn level design, maybe BB would be up to par. But that's my main, biggest and critical beef with it. It has only combat and nothing else, while this kind of game is heavily dependent on other systems to make it work. It's dependent on R&D, level design, emergent gameplay, tactical manoeuvrability, micro and macro management of assets and team members, mission variety. Out of these, BB only has some poor elements of management, and even those are set nearly on autopilot.
