Yeah I wouldn't dive into screen-filling mobs+harbingers in hardcore, sometimes I die but it's quite the experience.

Standard SC for me edgelords.

where else am i gonna spend all my hard flipped currency to durdle with some shitty op builds?
i like collecting all those noice legacy vesions and just have fun slicing through the game.
:positive:

dont get me wrong, i can get behind all your arguments for choosing SSF or HC instead, but if i wanted some sort of challenge i would play another game.

Personally, I could never figure out why people would want to watch someone play PoE for prolonged periods of time. It looks dreadfully boring outside of occasional interesting situations.

The only PoE gameplay things that I watch are either the demo runs of new high-end content so that I can be prepared and git gud beforehand, or short showcases of how a build operates in maps, so that I can decide if I want to play it in the future or not.

Well, ok, watching a RIP compilation or other occasionally is also fun:positive:.

I really like SSF (especially with all the new 3.0.0 stuff added in), but I hardly have time for it because I just like playing the leagues with economy.

I fall asleep to streams, sometimes I eat to them. Only a select few I can bear though, so it all depends on whether they're online

I like watching Mathil play just so I can experience what this game is supposed to play like were I not playing it on a 7 year old laptop (i.e. no 10 second freeze each time a new mob appears). I don't like watching him durdle with the passive tree.

I've played both HC and SC in the past.
In the end, I chose to play SC almost exclusively, because from my point of view, there's actually not that much difference in the end.

While Grunker described the attractions of HC pretty accurately, I can add this:
1) The thrill aspect applies to SC as well. HC is boring and conservative, it's risk averse. SC is bold and adventurous (if you choose to).
In HC most (sane) people would (rightfully) skip anything that screams "death imminent". Hence, very few people would run clenchy 8-mod rare maps, few people would run max key (pre-3.0.0) uber lab unless they are playing a lab farmer char, and a lot of people would not do atziri because boss fights there require mechanical finesse rather than a gear check.
In SC, you have the liberty of throwing caution to the wind and simply saying "let's do that -maxres vuln no regen twinned overgrown ruin with double beyond" and then actually doing it. And losing all 6 portals because you misjudged your abilities.
Not many people in SC opt to do that (those are boring strand-people), but the possibility is there, unlike HC.
2) The economy 4 weeks into league: SC = stable and plentiful, HC = good luck buying anything oddly specific because most people stopped playing the league already.
Rampant inflation in SC only applies for the first week or so, when tons of people are playing a lot and list all their loot for sale. After week 2, it's very much stable, and prices only change drastically if a certain streamer or other makes something temporarily popular.

Three main reasons why I play SC over HC:
1) I like to do various interesting builds, and HC puts a hard damper on what's viable (as in death-resistant) and what's not, meaning that the variety of choice is smaller.
2) When I do an interesting build, I don't want it to fail just because I can't get appropriate gear to get it up and running. In HC, that is a real risk 3+ weeks into the league.
3) I like to play crazy hard maps now and then. HC allows you to make that mistake only once, and it's a costly one.
But the risk of permanent loss is the only thing that makes the game engaging since diablos have the most braindead gameplay besides facebook clickers. A different build is just a different particle effect while you spam movement skill of choice and right click in the middle of a pack anyway.

I enjoyed watching ProjectPT during downtime at work. Just a cynical, grumpy asshole who shat all over Reddit nerds for a living. Could definitely see him having an account on the Codex.

Shame he quit after the Xbone announcement, especially since he engaged well with his viewers. Was a breath of fresh air to tune into his stream and see someone intentionally play at a slower pace.

People watch Mathil because he is their dad ofc.

I personally like to watch smaller streamers that i know are really good and knowledgeable at the game so i can ask some questions in chat and dont get spammed.

And sometimes i like to watch racers when its short race season.

I only watch boobie streamers.
some would argue that Mathil is a boobie streamer :codexisfor:

Agreed. I'm a newfag to PoE and doing my first run, and despite fucking my build up big time and getting fucked in the ass at every boss from Act 4 onwards, I think the moment I figure out main possibilities I'll go over to HC and never look back.

I find the most interesting part of the gameplay to be figuring out how to exploit builds/mechanics to take out the strongest challenges. Having the top half of the game placed behind a 12,000 hour grind barrier to do so makes things far too tedious. (This applies to both SSF and HC, which both amount to risk averse grinding very early into the map system.)

What's it like to be a PoE streamer in 37 seconds.

Also this is a game where you can die in milliseconds. See below

In some of those clips the dude has waaaaay less life than he ought to tho. Some of them are pretty crazy though.
Oh yeah, they actually put some passive points into non-life nodes, what noobs.

Some of them are also not running cast when damage taken immortal call, 100% deathwish.
