PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I'd just like more fleshy enemies to murderize with my swords. Doing inept challenger fights in full plate armor and longsword is my guilty pleasure.

I believe that they have mentioned gore effects as a planned feature. Being able to cut off arms or maybe even disembowel your enemies would be perfect for this game. Amplified pleasure?

What I don't think I want is magic. Don't know what they have planned, but me puny brain does not understand how magic could ever be fun or balanced in exanima. So far they have not taken any real missteps though, so what do I know.

There is magic somewhere though, but damn, I really really really want Sui Generis now.

3D Diablo1's feel so it's slightly attractive. But

1. 3 year overdue~ Right now it's still at 0.5.xx or something.
2. See 1st point.

Not even close to Diablo. More like an isometric Mount & Blade.

Too bad it's never gonna be released. Had a lot of potential.

There are devposts on steam https://steamcommunity.com/id/baremettle/posthistory/

Those guys are the worst at communicating. But I really hope they finish Exanima at least. Last financials we have are from Sep 2017 and don't look bad (bare in mind, the stuff the uploaded is unaudited):

Play Arena for now and wait until the new patch?

Should be coming SOON* and it adds a new level and a few new areas between levels in the dungeon iirc, although there's a lot of secrets and stuff so having to replay it soon after starting for the first time might not be that bad.

The combat is hard to get into at the beginning, but once it clicks it is extremely fun, try to reduce the times you 'reset' the camera as you might be tempted (as I was) to constantly do it to keep your character's back looking at you, but in the long run it's better to get used to it and fight independently of where your char is looking at.

*Your mileage may vary

Bought it!
So, let's start it!
Any advices?
Play the arena first to get into the fighting basics.
I prefer faster weapons like knifes, daggers and swords, but axes are also nice and in the arena 2h Swords do it for me.
Don't button smash like a retard this is more about timing. Go backwards if enemy shows sign of attacking. Go forward and attack if enemy has missed and don't get pushed into a corner or a wall. This fights are pretty much like a boxing match.

My best weapons by rank:

Idiot (don't remember what the first one is) - Iron Bar (awesome damage/momentum, good range, still nimble enough)
Aspirant - machete, or something two handed (depends what feels better for you and what direction you see your character going. The wooden mallet is pretty fun.)
Novice - one handed war hammer or the studded mace are stupidly good. Still quite long and the way the physics work, you'll hit from absurd range, smash through blocks and do a lot of damage against lightly dressed fighters. The spear is hard to control, but a LOT of fun and quite deadly if used right.
Adept - either one or two handed swords. They're awesome, extremely nimble and fine.
Expert - two handed mace. (I think it's actually an Adept weapon, but I use it on Expert, because it has so much momentum it negates armor almost completely) Poleaxe is also very good, but less fun.
Master - either poleaxe, or the polehammer. It's stupidly clunky, but also capable of one shotting anyone lower than Master rank. On Master it reduces fights to two or three hits.

Important advanced movement and combat control aspect that many players forget - C for crouch works as an analog controller. You can use it for all kinds of stuff - dodging high attacks, to angle your attacks differently, attack legs, or even for extra power and speed while doing overheads.

Sledgehammers.
Play the dungeon thing before the arena so can acclimate to combat in horrid conditions.

Lol, I can't win first fight with dude (there are zombies right? or normal dudes like my char?) with axe...
Starter tips?
Created max height balanced constitution, used long wooden stick.

Iron Bar (awesome damage/momentum, good range, still nimble enough)

But I can't hold torch and bar in same time...

Good old-fashioned pugilism. Use the alt key to thrust/jab and walk into your opponent as you do. It crowds them and your forward movement adds to the hurt.

But I can't hold torch and bar in same time...
Drop the torch to the floor, fight within its light radius.

The objectively best early rank weapon in the game is the long stick with metal wrapped at the end of it. It's got the same movement and speed as the normal long stick, but does an obscene amount of blunt damage. I have taken down master knights with it faster than using a mace.

The best weapon from adept and higher is the bardiche, because it's impossible to fuck up with, and so heavy that you can just power through your opponents shield to knock them on the ground and chop them up.

I think the bardiche feels similar to the two handed mace, but it matters if you hit with the edge or not. (not so with the mace) On the other hand you can stab with it properly, that's true.

Did it at Arena on Novice till man with Halberd or something like that, after woman with longsword and shield.
Hammers are devasteting when you can hit right in the skull.
But Two-hander was easier, more balanced and thus quicker.
Tried to master overhead strikes and that's was make me mad........................................

Hate to say it, but "told you so". Puglism is ok vs Zombies.
The 2h Bar is a nice thing till you are novice or adept. Daggers are really evil in the arena till you get the Sword. Forget the overhead strike despite that it is really effective, because it is simply too slow and stabbing and swing is faster.
Some prefer the Pike and Bardiche, because of the reach and damage, but 2h Swords have more balance and therefore are faster. I play even against Master level in the Arena often with the two weapon fighting style with Swords.

two weapon fighting style

:backawayslowly:

The HORROR!

I can't deal with two hand, two legs and one weapon lol, not talking about TWO.

So, which body type for which task? I made Fat Maypole - top right corner, max height - long legs and arms, big mass. Maybe bottom right corner is better?
Playing Arena, that mode with money, made 4 dudes - 3 like above, 1 dystrophic with max height, lloks like he moves a little faster?
Trying to master Bardish, Novice fights are hard...
Can't master sledgehammer - sometimes it's works, sometime not.
The only move I'm using - swing from right to left.
Spear was shit in my hands, but super-dangerous in enemy's hands.

For now the only REAL complaints - the FUCKING lack of illumination on Arena. For this thing devs should be put on stake.

Any more advices?

Dual wield is in my opinion one of the most easy fighting syles. It is also most effective against against 2h weapons and with 2 maces or 2 swords you are very effective in taking ever enemy down, but the style requires a bit of training.

I play always a Kurgan or Conan type of character. For fatties: (Dutchball) Fatty make a funny.
