Dude, at one point in the night it was outsold by Stardew Valley, fucking Stardew Valley and it barely went over 20k online, at this moment D:OS 2 was like 70-80k, so yes it's going pretty fucking slow for a sequel of this ''magnitude''. It's like people werent really impressed by the first game at all and bailed on this one.

Very true.

Afair it was #1 for a whole week and it was released in the middle of the week just like PoE2.

I might be wrong, but looks like PoE2 is a flop!

So far the game seems very easy. Like way too easy.

While I've found it overall fairly easy compared to 3.0 PotD White March, I 1. have party wiped a couple times in the first real dungeon. 2. realize this is the opening stage of the game, and therefore probably easing the player into the systems. And 3. have been intentionally not power gaming.

With these things in mind, I found that a few encounters that would have probably been slapped together in PoE, were actually pretty cleverly constructed in this in terms of enemy placement/patrols/varied abilities.

My main char is 3CON/3RES - I found him getting knocked down in Deadfire much more than the beginning of PoE1, more ranged enemies and they focus him instantly, even if they were out of range, in PoE1 he would have to walk into them, so he could attack frontline safely.
:negative:
The fuck! They even managed to screw the decisions from the first game,i had the restard the game because i didn't know that the decision making is hidden in the options. Also some options are missing, like you know, the end of the white march. It is missing the option to make the god but with tempered memories. How in the fuck you mess up this shit?! LoL

and if you import your save it doesn't carry over if the orlan baby is alive and what eder did

Anthony Davis FIX THIS SHIT

Orlan baby bug is just if you didn't complete the quest, i.e. you kidnapped the baby and never talked to either of the two questgivers.

What would actually be interesting is how it performs compared to the first game. POE1 was never a smash hit either, but they followed it up anyway.

So far it seems to get good reviews and a majority seems to like it, even if it seems a bit easy.

Not that I care about this all that much, but I think that number is affected by the new Steam privacy policy that has rendered Steamspy useless at the moment. Not sure though. I feel like someone like LESS T_T or Infinitron might know more about this.

"Historically" written in-world document from the pillars ii guidebook:

"A BOY visited my office holding palmfuls of what passes for currency on his side of the world. Without understanding the terms of release, his chieftain had signed away all right to their tribal land. And what did he take in exchange but a mere certificate of trading permissions along an already overused merchant route! Belfetto, every day we demonstrate the power of ink and parchment over traditional arms. I would pay a man his weight in azata shells if he could show me a nation that weaponized commerce as efficiently as we do. A pity that our Rauataian neighbors ignore the example and stretch their resources along such tight margins. Their soldiers, colonists, and even cannons must be constantly nourished and maintained with goods that no one on this side of the world possesses. By the time we have pulled away from these islands, Rauatai will have gained nothing but an iron shortage and some unwelcome diseases. We will be rich beyond imagining. It goes without saying that I had the meddlesome islander escorted back to the docks. The signatory of his “disagreeable” agreement I had promoted for his diligent paperwork. It is not our fault if these degenerates fail to understand the contracts they sign."

I wonder who or what might have inspired this passage...

Dude it's Steam's own chart, this is not about SteamSpy.

For the clicking bug, I read that disabling the Steam overlay helps - didn't try it yet, if anyone can feel free

I know it doesn't have anything to do with steamspy. That was just an example of how the new privacy policy has affected active steam numbers as a whole. For example, if you look at the official RPGCodex steam page, you will only see about 15-20 people playing games. The users who have not activated public viewing of their profile manually, show up as not playing any game at all. There are definitely more than that playing steam games right now. I don't know if that affects the official steam activity numbers or not.

A few questions, maybe you guys can help me out.

- How are party skill-checks and individual skill-checks made? Should I pump 1 skill stat on 1 guy to maximixe, or is it the total skillpoint pool from the entire party that matters the most?
Right now I was spreading out the skills on different characters, but is it better to have 1 guy mechanics, 1 guy athletics.. and so on? I mean you get a lower TOTAL skillpoint, but you get higher pr. char? HALP

Is there a way to toggle names on NPCs as permanent, instead of just revealing it when you hover over it?

I think it's the "social skills" that are party based but I'm probably miss-remembering.

Party skill point benefits are triangular, ie. total of 10 diplo in party gives you +4. Hard to say how how much you can spread out, dunno how tight Sawyer balanced it.

Like if I want to discover secrests and disarm traps, I have to boost 1 guy with max mechanics, right? Or can I rely on the TOTAL party skills to disarm traps and look for secrets?

Cleared first island - no need to rest / no injuries, etc. Game crashes at Neketaka, and I lose 4-5 hrs worth of playtime... Probably my fault for not meticulously saving (pain in the ass since you have to quit to start menu to save in Trial of Iron), but gonna restart on PotD tomorrow and wait for at least first expansion before I try another Trial of Iron Run so all the bugs are ironed out.

I wonder how PowerTrip Feargus is going to take the news that the game is a gigantic flop. Who's going to get blamed, threatened to get fired, I think Sawyer is going to resign or get fired, it's over for PoE saga folks.

dragonul09 you're trying too hard. The game's not doing so bad. It has a very good reception and decent sales and will keep selling. They released it mid-week with bugs, it will pick up.

hivemind I thought you hated Deadfire, you played through the whole night??? :o

After having played through the initial island and having gone to deadlight (also doing a few ship combat), here are some initial impressions:

  • The backstory import/choser works very poorly, and I have already noticed numerous errors(Orlan baby, god bonus, Eder choices etc.). This feels pretty shitty tbh, since you get consequences for choices you didn't make and makes me seriously consider holding off playing for a few weeks inorder to let them solve issues like this.
  • Combat is a pretty big downgrade compared to PoE 3.0, especially casters... Whoever thought choosing 1-2 spells per level was a good idea needs to be shot. Spells feel underpowered (probably related to removal of vancian casting) and I honestly don't know why you wouldn't just play an all melee party. #LacrymasWasRight :negative:
  • Combat is very easy but that might of course change now that i have left the starting island.
  • Ship combat is more like shit combat. Poorly thought-out busywork, please remove.
  • Writing is ok at best so far which makes the decision to use full voice acting more reasonable since almost all characterisation comes from that, rather than the text.
  • Overall the companions seem fine but a bit uninteresting.
  • One area where the writing has been bad so far is in the area of player responses. It is genuinely cringe-worthy a lot of the time and a number of options feels really out of place (probably there to fill some sort of disposition qouta). It feels amateurish.
  • Voice acting is good for the most part
  • WAY too much inserting of random tiki-taki terms in every other sentence. FFS, no-one talks like this! Not really a major issue though.
  • Vastly improved visuals in all areas, beautiful areas, effects, weather etc.
  • Soundtrack is less Shit than I thought but still worse than PoE and especially much worse than in WM, which had an excellent soundtrack.
  • Overland map might be good but I can also see it being a bit spammy
  • A lot of checks in conversations/storybook but they are trivially low so what is the point really? Hopefully the checks get bumped up significantly as I get further in the game.
Verdict: Cautiously positive (but this certainly aint no masterpiece), one should however wait at least a few weeks to let them sort out basic bugs and begin to tackle balancing combat which seems poorly thought-out.

Edit: One more thing. The Eothas VA is ok and worries about his danger hair is overblown. They really should have chosen a more imposing sounding guy though for their main villain who is a god inhabiting a titan-sized statue. While certainly not perfect I think Christopher Judge (God of War, Star Gate etc) for example would have been much preferable.

Damn right I have an agenda, that review and the drama surrounding was far more fun than the first game. And I did not even buy this one, so bring on the reviews and drama, I say.
