Back in 2015, right around the same time Chris Avellone left, Feargus gave a talk at IGDA Montreal where he was quite frank about the aggressive culture at Interplay and how it affected him: http://www.rpgcodex.net/article.php?id=9929

Unfortunately it seems that the video has been taken down, but I jotted down some summaries in the Obsidian thread while watching it: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...-discussion-thread.84849/page-85#post-3962999

One of the reasons I don't think Feargus is a sociopath is that he seems regretful about these things.

I would also resist that Ferg is a "sociopath"; my issue was always lack of empathy of anyone in the trenches, which he would understand if aware.

But yet, the video must exist... somewhere? I ask b/c most of our devs didn't know exactly what "Gus" wanted.

Isn't the defining characteristic of a sociopath precisely a lack of empathy?

Not that I can find, but IGDA did write a summary of their own: https://web.archive.org/web/2016011...a/event-summary/summary-the-road-to-eternity/

And here's somebody's blog post about it: https://kozibear.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/re-the-road-to-eternity-by-feargus-urquhart/

Chris Avellone Have you heard of Copper Dreams? (Pen and paper inspired turn based cyberpunk RPG being made by - "Best/cutest dev couple in gaming world" Codex reward)
They even sold their house to be able to keep making it.

This is how the game looks and plays at the moment (while in alpha):

If you didn't hear of it, please check it out a bit :)

It's uncanny how videogame companies invariably turn out to be horrible, horrible places.

I enjoy this as much as anyone, and at another point in my life would have made the attempt to go through the 200 pages, but I'm primarily bitter we didn't get anything approaching a Planescapy experience from the Kickstarter surge of 2012 and that the failure was down to management fuck-ups.

Based on what MCA has said, those seem like hollow words.

The more I read about it I think MCA should have stopped to further answer company questions after the initial explanation of his departure.

Also, while all you fuckers are shitting on Fergie (stupid Yanks had to fuck up even the nickname), he's the only big dog at Obsidian who played Gothic, that and being Scottish keeps him from fully falling from grace in my eyes.

Edit: Just saw that MCA said he played the least worthwhile of the Gothics (3), guess that's worth a nod at least.

I called IHaveAHugeNick a shill when I was hiding his Obsidian developer past and took away "shill" when he became public about it - and now, going back through the responses in this, I realize I was coasting off my poor wordplay with "colossal fatass" (referring to myself) in insulting Nick with fuckery. How derivative.

Funny you should mention this, because I caught myself calling some guy a "colossal cunt" the other day, and then I realized I must have picked up the "colossal+slur" combo from you.

Although I at least had creative spark to make it into alliteration, whereas colossal fuckery is just bland. Up your game old man.

Hey Chris,

1. Have you given a chance and/or tried the soulsborne games at all? (Demons' Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3)?

How do you feel about the indirect way of telling a story through the environment, placement of monsters and item descriptions rather than direct? (even with the heavy action/stamina-management aspect)

2. Have you ever considered working again with the cast from Planescape: Torment, such as Jennifer Hale or Rob Paulsen?

Thanks in advance for any reply.
