Agree. For me the difficulty feels finely tuned and just right. Trash mobs aren't complete cake walks and during harder fights I actually have to think a few seconds more about what spell or ability I'm going to use and against who. I even have to take gambles with my healing spells and pray that the guy I didn't heal won't get attacked. I feel like the crafting system isn't tacked on since I need it to be competitive instead of just help me roll over enemies even faster and I need to build my characters as a party instead of as individual characters. The JP audience really got shafted hard here and I hope they do get the harder modes. The only thing I'm not super excited about in this harder mode is that most enemies act their turn first in random encounters. Yeah it makes it harder since I'm put on the defensive, but it also does slow down the combat pace which is already slowed down by being 3D. I wish there was an option to make attack animations maybe a bit faster and then this problem would go away.

Man, I'm really feeling my age now. Pulled an allnighter on the 4th and played DQ11 well into the 5th and then went about my business with no sleep, came home that night and literally collapsed. When I woke up today on the 6th I realized doing this fucked up all of my goals: I skipped gym the 4th (playing), the 5th (collapsed from no sleep), and today as well (the 6th) because I have zero energy.

To top it off since going without sleep fucks up your metabolism I woke up today and ate like 3 thousand calories, easy. Ruh-roh! Back ijn the day I could go 3-4 days with little to no sleep and be like what-the-fuck, now I can't even properly do 48 hours.

...still worth it tho. ^_^

Even with games im super excited about playing, like DQXI, i tend to play them in short bursts and not even every day, i only played 20m last night.

After an entire day sitting at a desk at work, i enjoy coming home and getting active, by the time im done with cleaning the house, yard, dinner, i go for a long walk and then it's 10pm and i play for a bit or just watch a movie/tv show.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Ever since graduatin college, i am prioritizing proper rest and sleep over videogames.

Its crazy how adults still do this and basicallt tormenting themselves into dysfunction

Duude, this game is gorgeous.

A bit scared about it being easy. I started with the bloated enemies option. If it gets weird I will change it later.

There's always that one hero in a thread who claims that he didn't / you don't need to do any grinding at all.. Well, in the case in some games, it's true. Certainly is not true for DQ11. I tried playing the game naturally without grinding and after I got my full party it was just a buffet of shit eating for me. I went to Gallopolis and pretty much every encounter there could end up being lethal to the point where I'd get downed before I could even react, so I had to go back and grind a level for everyone in the previous area before moving on there. Some encounters (with the cactuses) were flat out impossibru unless I had Scorched Earth ready. Btw this is with all the best equipment bought and upgraded from Gallopolis. After getting the twins to level 14 things evened out a lot. Vernoica gains Bang and +10 magic damage, which helps a lot, and Serena gains Woosh which is always awesome and finally, after 10 games, a useful spell. Still haven't gotten enough Agility to out maneuver enemies for a first attack reliably. Hopefully there's a Meteorite Bracer in this game as well.

So, can you save the game anywhere, or only in churches after hearing the Church NPC rant every time? Is the pacing of the game much faster than the glacial one from the PS2 game? I liked the DS ones... But only with a code that allowed saving anywhere and/or emulation save states.

Only in churches, but the game autosaves when you move across a green zone line so it's a good idea to make an autosave before trying something risky.

I am leaving the game in the background auto farming. I will beat the SoS some time.

EDIT: Do not forget to manually control all your characters during boss fights. Also use defend!

Finally started it. Just got out of cobblestone and it is p comfy. Soo is orchestral mod out yet? DQ 8 on the ps2 spoiled me with how good can an orchestra score be with dragon quest type music

Better AA (slightly blurrier than the default in-game AA, but I prefer this now):

Activating Temporal AA
Add this to Engine.ini (C:\Users\(Your Name)\Documents\My Games\DRAGON QUEST XI\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor):

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=2

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/119863

Increase (or decrease) geometry draw distance:

Yeah I've been testing this - the standard UE4 stuff seems to work.

Add this to your engine.ini:

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.ViewDistanceScale=10
r.SkeletalMeshLODBias=-2

You can try different values out but those work just fine. DistanceScale obviously affects how far away geometry draws in and the LODBias (lower is better) controls when they switch to higher quality models.

With those settings grass seems to draw in at a distance and you won't see any low quality character/environment models suddenly change as you approach anymore:

No idea on performance as I'm playing locked to 30fps so people will have to test out what works for them.

Does this game have any kind of cool character building systems? Last DQ I played was 7 and there was a pretty nice job system. Not as varied or interesting as FFV, but there was potential in there. Is there anything like that in the new entry?

Not really. Your characters have a skill tree, each character can pick from a few different weapons, but you won't be able to unlock everything, nor can you change what type of base character they are; eg Erik will always be a thief but you can pick weather to focus him on swords, knives, or boomerangs. The skill trees are set up so that some amount of cross-training is rewarding; for example if you want the best attack skill for the main character you have to put points in both of his weapon skills.

Overall it does not have the same openness and flexibility of DQ 6, 7, and 9.

I killed the fucker. Level 18/19. Lots of heals and casting slow and magic nullification. Greatsword big hit + defense down = ~100 damage per hit.

Managed to beat The Slayer of the Sands at level 15/14, but it took some doing and I only had two characters standing at the end. Very satisfying win.

Of course the enemies in the next area started womping my ass (curse you, weretigers!) as a result. I've been avoiding a fair amount of normal encounters up until this point to make sure I didn't become OP, but now I know I have nothing to fear on that front. Time to start engaging more monsters I come in contact with, which is fine by me, because every battle is about as fun and interesting as the last.

I :love: this game so damn much.

That quest where you need to get a bunny suit recipe from the casino, then craft it piece by piece, then make your sister wear it, then bring her to an old man so that he can ogle at her. And the quest is called A Rush of Blood.
:stunned:
BTW, the one armed bandit seem to be in your favor, long as you've got enough money for ~300 tokens (which isn't much, 6000 gold) to start with. Save beforehand of course. The "trick" is to always play with 30 tokens, and to hope for free spins and silver spins, which last for 10-30 spins.
