Just for good measure, I'll note that "Row" has two different pronunciations (one rhyming with crow and one with cow), so even his pronunciation guide tells me nothing.

Lulz. Only in British english does it have two pronunciations (not that I disagree with your overall point). Always sounds rather quaint when I hear it on BBC.

Again, I think he made many missteps. I guess my gut reaction was that his moderately sized fanbase would have provided some level of visibility to overcome all those problems. Your analysis is pretty convincing however.

For another point of comparison and to give you something else to pick apart, Burgun has apparently released another game almost simultaneously (perhaps hinting at being spread way too thin) called Jelly Bomber. I like the presentation and description of this game a lot better, though it looks like a small simple game. This one too has 0 reviews and absolutely no interaction with its store page. https://store.steampowered.com/app/828270/Jelly_Bomber/

But saying that the missing component of ETO's marketing is being too subjective in its descriptions strikes me as a huge leap.

Oh no, I'm not saying it was the missing component, I was just saying it was one of the missing components. The biggest component by far is just a lack of getting his name out there.

In fact the store page description, which consists of a large section about the game's background and general mechanics followed by a small bulleted list of features, seems pretty close to your patreon page (even if I admit Burgun could drop a couple useless words)."Expansive", "a wide variety", "your choices during them matter", "a fleshed out, mystery-driven plot". These are subjective terms. Not that I would fault you for it! I don't think games, novels, films, or meals should be described purely in terms of their ingredients.

I agree, which is why I did note;

...you don't HAVE to go full objective, as the main pitch I have for the game in that same topic does have a little subjectivity...

:P

HentaiWriter, go fuck yourself. That shit is degenerate as fuck.
Who the fuck gets off on badly drawn Sailor Moon rip-offs?

And just what do you think the Romans like in your avatar got up to--

https://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/5-biz...n-from-ancient-rome-that-will-blow-your-mind/

"After being captured, an enemy soldier might experience the horror of having a dentifrangibus used on them. A dentifrangibus is another word for tooth smasher. After the teeth were smashed out of the enemy soldier’s mouth, the Roman soldiers then had sex with the toothless mouth as a way to humiliate their foes. This practice was called irrumatio and Romans didn’t consider it gay since they were the ones doing the penetrating."

"The Romans loved to put on a big show in the Colosseum and they were always trying to top each other. Usually this was done with copious bloodshed. Toward that end, criminals were often executed in the area. One of the ways the Romans put criminals to death was via sex with animals. The animals used, which must have taken some incredible training, included bulls, wild dogs, baboons and giraffes."

Oh, alright. Honestly though, the most degenerate thing might be your post history, so I'll defer to you when it comes to experience with degeneracy from now on, thanks for showing me how it's done!

Comparing Romans to fat degenerate slobs that bate it to Sailor-Moon rip-offs that are poorly drawn.

Really? How do American's saw it when used in the sense of definition 3? https://www.thefreedictionary.com/row

- A noisy or quarrel or disturbance.
- A loud noise.

Not sure I've ever heard anyone use that definition, but we do use that pronunciation in "rowdy"
American English pronounces it to rhyme with "cow" and it's certainly used, albeit not that often. Maybe Jeremiah is unfamiliar with the word, not sure.

If I wanted to market a game today, I'd first, get slick-looking, yet simple, website for it. Then, I'd get the game pirated. With all the crap out there today, being pirated is a mark of quality: If your game is worth stealing, it much be worth SOMETHING. Make sure you have a pirated version. Pirates are lazy people, so they'll just link your website as to "What are people about to download?". If your game isn't shit, people will now download and enjoy it. Then they'll talk, because pirates are connected people. But nobody will admit to pirating it, so now you've just got a talkative userbase pushing your shit.

Ah I was wrong. I could have sworn to hearing it pronounced rhyming with crow on NPR before. It's pretty rare though and google has a BRITISH tag on that definition.

I suggested someone pirate my game on the roguelike discord server and the mods immediately stepped in to tell me even talking about piracy is not allowed. I think it's a discord TOS thing since they're trying to court game companies and not to be viewed as a pirate's den.

Generally though most people don't seem ashamed.

The problem with this kind of marketing is that it's completely subjective. To me, maybe these levels aren't packed with thrills, and maybe to another person, they're unique, but not action-packed.
IMO, the best way to market is to be completely objective with your marketing; let the game itself prove that it's quality and fun and such, but when it comes to what the game's content is, lay it out on the table exactly as-is, period.
I was writing something about a product today and remembered this. Good advice.

This isn't really the case at all; most forums I'm on, no one has any issues saying they pirate games. I've had people post links to my games literally right underneath my posts.
Your example is not typical given that you make porn games. In mainstream gaming areas, it's flat out against forum rules to even mention the matter.

Errr, you know that I have a dayjob, right? As you note, Primordia has ~1750 reviews, and I'd still be silly if I'd made a dayjob out of it. My personal take on Primordia was about $120k.

You're not getting a share of lifetime sales?

Yes, that’s my share to date. The share works out to about 18.5% of gross, which is around 40 cents per copy sold at the typical sale price.

Didn't it turn out to be fake?
Maybe. Wikipedia says a meta-analysis showed anxiety didn't have much of an impact on people's purchases.

It intuitively makes sense though. I have trouble deciding what to do when I have too many options.

Netflix might be a good example. The more selections they have, the more people are likely to simply watch breaking bad and mission impossible.
