The soundtrack on the Rainbow games was top notch.

Annoyingly half the CD images on the internet are IMG or ISO format so they've chopped off the audio track.

There's a couple on archive.org which are in the correct BIN/CUE format.

Can't seem to find a BIN/CUE of Black Thorn and Urban Ops which isn't surprising given that they're virtually 20 years old.

There's also the user made Black Ops installer which has every classic mission on the newest version of the Rogue Spear engine - including some exclusive Korean maps.

EDIT:
Using the magic of the internet I've found a proper release of Black Thorn & Urban Ops.
Added them to archive.org but they're listed as "community software" - I can't see a way of putting them inside their cd-rom software library; that must be something only they can do.

you mean iso which can only hold one track and not img/ccd

Yes exactly.

The old days with the split Audio / Data tracks - I'm glad that system died out.

It was quite nice to be able to play a CD on a normal stereo system though.
Completely unnecessary these days with FLAC, mp4 and gadgets, etc.

It's made by Gollop, but the gameplay is even more limited than in the recent XCOM, with no APs, just the move and/or attack, and it gets repetitive really fast.

Rebelstar: Tactical Command on the GBA (still by Gollop) was fun and had APs.

SWAT 3 is probably my favorite. SWAT 4 is good too, but I much prefer the command system in SWAT 3, and I find the look more charming as well.

If you're into trying modding, Infiltration for Unreal Tournment (1999) is a real treat. There's a good, pretty definitive community edition out there. (Trying to get .umods to work on modern systems is tricky though, so maybe go for the version you have to extract yourself)

Didn't see Insurgency: Sandstorm mentioned here, but it's also pretty good (You can play the beta on steam, until its release).

Ive purchased it but im waiting to see reports on performance being up to an acceptable standard. Right now what i see is streamer tards with top of the line rigs having to run the game in "this looks like shit" mode just to get acceptable frames.

this seems to be a multi year theme with UE4 now...

Huh. My computer is not the latest greatest rig, about 3 years old at this point, but I run the game with medium/high settings pretty well, and it looks pretty good.

So, I fired up Ghost Recon 1 on PC with Heroes Unleshed mod + Third Person mod + ENBseries for Bloom effects and shading and.... I'm having my ass handed to me. I didn't remember fucking trucks full of reinforcements arriving on the missions after some time. Perhaps this is an addition of H.U?

Anyway, it seems the AI is more rudimentary than I remember in this game, which is sad. R6 managed to hide this fact for being close quarters, but when given a wide area to operate they leave something to be desired. The best way to play I found is either: A) assuming a lone marksmen/sniper on the back, and sending fireteams Alpha and Bravo ahead, while covering for their eventual stupidness, or B) commanding a main fireteam Alpha while having another fireteam Bravo just covering my back, and eventually syncronizing an assault on an objective. Both methods result in eventual deaths. I'm accepting them for normal goons, but for specialists I press reload.

It's fun so far. I'll probably fire original R6 after this.

I replayed GR recently, trucks with reinforcements do appear in at least one vanilla mission (maybe the crashed plane or the prison camp, not sure).

I use to position the teams so that they cover each other, that way they can ambush enemies as they approach.

How is Ghost Recon Breakdown compared to Wildlands ? I thought Wildmands was fun and liked the chaotic feel of the fights.

Now I was reminded of a game breaking bug in Ghost Recon on newer PCs: https://www.ghostrecon.net/forums/index.php?/topic/62081-tank-drive/

Screen refresh rates above 60 fps can cause vehicles to slow down to a crawl in GR. There‘s a technical explanation for this, but suffice to say just keep V-sync on and locked at 60 frames per second and everything is peachy.

(There's no V-sync setting in the game menu, but it can be set in Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3-D Settings > Program settings > Ghost Recon, change Vertical sync to Fast.)
