How demanding are the graphics? Does it play well on older machines?
I decided to test it on my old rig - Phenom II X4 955 OCed to 3,8GHz, 8GB RAM & a 960 2GB, and walked around a bit in heliodor and did some fights. Graphic settings maxed out, stable 30fps, only saw a drop to ~28 in Heliodor central plaza when you come into the area. Probably related to loading textures. It jumped to 30 again quickly. Pretty good.

Does this game also feature the annoying "enemy uses one spell and runs out of all mp" that modern remakes of dq games have?
Or can the enemies actually use spells multiple times?

Why is that annoying? Enemies playing by the same rules as the player is the best shit ever.

Two reasons:
-Enemies are given very low mp so they can utilize their magic only 2-3 times at best(not counting special enemies and bosses)
-Enemies that have no mp will try to cast spells giving you a free pass at them

It just makes the remakes way too easy.

Enemies generally had limited MP so you couldn't steal infinite MP from them I think, making running out of MP in a dungeon an actual threat.

Haha the final boss, I thought I was over-prepared, that was very naive. Only high of the battle was a nice kerplunk that revived 7 people at once :D Then they all died again.

I like oldschool JRPGs and it looks like this is the oldest schoolest of them all
Really would have liked if this ran on my laptop but just might have to get it for the PS4... 100+ hours of grindy old school bliss

25 hours already and i am about to hit open sea instead of inland.
I'd say so far this is best DQ i have ever played (i didn't play that many, VII, VIII, IX and didn't even finish part of them)

So far case is very likable.
Story isn't amazing and there are almost no twists so far and those twists that are, are weirdly acted. Story though has its charm and i always liked that about VIII and i am glad to see that XI is continuing this tradition. Toriyama art design always gets me. When i first saw a girl in young Chichi armor from DB i laughed out loud. Same with monsters. They surprisingly have a lot of fun animations and ton of charm.

When it comes to mechanics, it is definitely improvement over previous games.

Abilities/skillpoints now have sense since you can now re-specialize characters while in DQVIII using skills on something else than your one weapon was waste until you hit end game where you could farm skill seeds AND you can go in different ways to pick up some skills earlier later. I hope with next installment they will go fully in that direction, to have more customization. While such system didn't work great in FF12 due to how combat there was constructed here it would imho work really great. I also like that each character have now at minimum 2 ways of improvement + their standard basic skillset they get with levels. Some characters have like 4 viable trees.

Itemization is way better now. There is less difference now between gear due to how damage is calculated and you can now explore different options instead of best DPS weapon even early in game. It isn't still amazing system but huge improvement.

Alchemy/Forging is also huge upgrade with small step back. I liked that in VIII you could find books and learn recipes but i also liked that you could waste materials and try to come up with something new by combining items. Giving gear enchanting +1,2,3 was great idea to get some additional life out of some weapons AND it plays really well with loot from monsters. So grinding which was almost pointless in DQVIII has now some sense since you can spend your time earning money/exp while you grind for monster parts to make gear. Their idea with those gathering points also work really well with exploration and crafting and i already did few runs to restock my Silver Ore and Iron ore to make some good amount of gear. I would love though for it to have some more deeper mechanics. Like hidden weapon effects that are unlocked with forging table when you gather some materials for it.

Exploration. Pretty standard fare for DQ but this time graphics are really beautiful and it is joy to see some places. Though i would wish there was something more to do than hunt for those gathering points or other stuff like crossbow targets and chests. Full explored map imho is detractor for this game, especially when it points you from get go all places where you can find materials. All hidden areas etc are on map so there is no point in looking for them. Only thing that isn't on map are chests but those are fairly easy to find.

So far so good, i hope this game will keep delivering new things beside those 25 first hours.
Also Casino is real deal. I spend like 1 hour just playing bandit and it was really fucking fun, those minigames are fun.
That slime Quest thing also looks like good hour sink but i am scared of it...

Nothing. But it doesn't work with attack skills. Instead you can use Sword Dance for 8mp with a Great Sword for 120 4 times every turn.

He's susceptible to one status that you can find out by talking to the right person in Honolulu.

Finished ! Took me 111 hours, I guess 10 more with the reloads against tough bosses. Played with tougher monsters, not sure how playing with all 6 would be (no shop and no armor especially).
Still got a few quests and the final Alma Wheel trial in <=30 turns (made it in 31 turns ><), then perhaps I'll forge the ultimate weapons.
That was amazing, it's rare I finish a game nowadays. 10/10 despite some small faults and some cheese in the story.

Talk to the old cannon lady.

Don't need it. Just stored pew charges for whole team and used that team move with black hair chick which scares boss for good 2-3 turns.
Got tentacles dead and then his face melted quickly after that.

Am a fish. Game of the year.
Wow didn't expect high budget FMV in vein of FF7-9. It is amazing to see them again.
Still imho Lifa tree event looks better in FF9 despite being decades old.

One thing i hate about DQ11.

Who the fuck decided that lines when spoken will go up every line added ?
How does this make any fucking sense ?

So you either need to strain your eyes, wait for it to load whole thing, or press twice per dialog to skip text quickly.
Naturally there is no option to instantly show whole text...

edit:

Damn i have ton of fun with act2. Way more interesting and fun. So many gifs to make out of those cutscenes.

Like in all DQ from DQ1 =) People say different things at night. There's also a rain/sun/storm thing with different monsters spawning.
