Because you start as a Witcher, a defined role in a game that is supposed to be a RPG, and the most known of them all on top of that.

It's like you would be starting Baldur's Gate with 1 role to choose and already from the start with all powers of Bhaal, and not some poor schmuck from library that goes killing rats.

Even Bioware and Bethesda does not limit you in this aspect, and usualy you can create your character as you want.

That's because you are a Bethesda loving retard, of course you have no comprehension of good story.
Im not saying TW story is great but its problem is not that Geralt is not a nobody that starts every game in a dungeon.

You mean like in Fallout 3 where you are forced into a 19 year old with a deceased mother, living father and had 80% of your backstory told to you in an intro. Or in Fallout 4 where you can only play as a soldier that has to be married with a lawyer or a lawyer married with a soldier and they have to have a baby.

You can choose whether or not to be sarcastic.

So it is wrong that Role Playing Game is about playing a role of witcher? Is that correct?

Not every game has to let palyer create his own furry whorelock or something. Witcher series have a lot of problems in RPG department but I don't see problem with fixed protagonist (if done correctly).

Fuck yeah. Thats also why MotB is shit.

You are already the shard bearer, an epic level character and a fucking eldritch spirit-eating abomination.

So fucking shit. If there were at least some spirit rats to devour.

Witcher is not an RPG, but OP is still wrong about this being the fundamental reason it isn't legitimately good. I'd say bad combat is the main reason the Witcher games are shit, but then I'm not looking for RPG mechanics in a non-RPG like The Witcher so my perspective is more grounded. (And correct).

Well dawg! because you are roleplaying a character with backstory, very defined back story in fact, completed with "wife" and "child". Not a nobody western devs love to throw at you so neckbeards can immershun themselves in that. it's like you are watching a character's story unfold and continue. You aint no neckbeard gamers escaping into another world, baby. You ARE ropleplay the character, looking at the world through that character's eyes, think with that point of view.

PST do the same to you, although Nameless One can change three class: Fighter, Rogue, then Wizard.
