You mean the bugged release version which didn't scale enemy numbers? I hope you get to replaying Deadfire sooner. IMO it's the best PoE-style combat of all the games/expansions/game versions to date.

And resource management can and should be brought back, by "mods will fix it".

I did play whatever version it was that fixed it - 1.03? - and my verdict was that POTD difficulty in Deadfire was now decent, not massively different from POE1, up to level 12 or so. After that, the nonlinearity, multiclassing, and good old RPG tradition of difficulty curve breaking down mid-late game for almost every RPG in existence, comes into play.
PotD is further beefed up now.

On another note:
I just realized that Neketaka features an armorer of renown who is a woman Aumaua and a tailor of renown who is a male Dwarf. The Dwarf has a branching dialogue tree in which he sarcastically asks you "did you expect me to be an armorer because of my short height and big hands?" or something to that effect, and if given the chance, goes on to remind you that you should not judge people by their appearance. Compares the softness of his hands, proof he is not a smith, to "a pair of undisciplined bottoms".

Yes, someone actually paid for those lines to be written.

And then voiced.

White March encounter design is certainly not as good as Deadfire. It was a minor improvement, but suffered from many of the same issues as the base game.

Seeker, Slayer, Survivor is peak encounter design for the series, and should be the model going forward if they ever make a Pillars 3.

So... it's a classic case of retcon then? Honestly I didn't even notice or think about it.
I quite like the retconned/new Engwithan stuff. In the first game, it didn't really ring true that their entire civilisation committed mass suicide but I was prepared to roll with it. PoE2 makes it clear that the creation of the gods was a much bigger undertaking, and hints that my boy Thaos was involved at the top level the whole time.

:what: lol
Since Garsten bears a slight resemblance to Aeldys, I'm going to charitably assume they were both the models for those characters.

NOTE: We have found a progression blocking issue in our latest beta patch build and will be removing it from Steam and GOG to resolve the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and will attempt to resolve ASAP.

Always a step ahead of you...
New update sounds awesome, pure incline! Game shapes up to be really great in every aspect except for writing/story, but that's something we have to live with... Nice additions with these patxhes though, for sure!

Since they removed the current beta branch, here are some leaks about the new megaboss from the last patch

megaboss location said:
The Voracious Mountain

Pitfalls of the Deadfire Travellers Guide Part 2 said:
This traveler's guide is circulated for the benefit of newcomers to the Deadfire Archipelago. One passage stands out:

"Do NOT dispose of sick livestock by feeding them to Hauani O Whe. That PRIMORDIAL ABOMINATION has grown to the size of a mountain already thanks to misguided pilgrims worshipping it as a god.

A DIRE warning - Hauani O Whe vomits forth a symbiote that injures a motionless host and reproduces on a moving one. Simply AVOIDING the creature at all costs will prevent GRAVE PERIL, INFESTATION AND PROBABLE DEATH.

As always, the Deadfire Visitor's Preservation Society takes no responsibility for harm inflicted by knowing ignorance of the risks, and every effort has been made to keep travelers AWAY from the following coordinates: 25° 52' S 34° 22' E."

A map of Hauani O Whe's position is marked off with a wax seal in the shape of a skull. It points toward a lagoon south of Dunnage.

Megaboss Ability - "Merge" said:
The wielder merges with target Ally, granting them a huge bonus to both Power Level and Health, but removing the wielder from combat.

Hairy Ooze Droppings said:
These hairy mandibles drip with a continuous trail of sticky venom. Either the glands producing this viscous substance haven't caught wind of the empress' demise or they are naturally expected to function after death. The venom incapacitates the prey, but also taps into a secondary reservoir containing a bulging sac of dormant spider eggs. The implications of this fastened-together biological system are unpleasant to consider and unforgettable to those who have witnessed it in action.

It seems the next god challenge will add in a spirit eater mechanic.

You need to periodically consume a drug or you will be weakened and eventually die. The catch is that the drug is rare and hard to find.

I presume the Hairy Ooze Droppings will get a different description in the final version, since the one you quoted is from Belranga's mandibles

E: I don't want to imply I deserve sole credit, but I did suggest a Berath's Blessing to let Eder have a pet on the official forums. One cool thing about the game bombing is that the voice of everyone playing it is amplified

Sorry, wrong descripotion.

Mountainous Ooze Droppings said:
When a group of oozes gathers into one distinct entity, their metabolism sublimates the indigestible bones, dirt, and debris of their travels into a slimy byproduct reminiscent of a pearl. These items tend to dissolve with the death of their host, but in rare cases they can be recovered whole and put on display as trophies. In even rarer cases, an ooze pearl will absorb some latent quality of their host, allowing those who carry such objects to manifest some objectively horrifying talents.

Typically when a game bombs this hard the developers abandon it, so props to Obsidian for still adding in new features.

Did PoE2 bomb though? I mean, let's establish "bombing" as what happened with BT4 or Numanuma, for reference.

Curious about the new UI stuff. Shame about figurines, but hey - "just like the IE games"! Also, my current party will mop any ooze off the floor.

Nobody from the codex has been able to defeat the first megaboss yet. I doubt the second will be any easier.

Multiclasses are mostly worse than single-classes, outside of the rare broken combo.

For all the whining about them single class wizards are the strongest class in Dumpsterfire.

Huge incline they are continuing the PotD pass. Kinda disappointed they are going to probably reuse models for the mega bosses.

For all the whining about them single class wizards are the strongest class in Dumpsterfire.

Evoker*, unless I'm missing some other OP specialization

It's actually the opposite. Multiclasses are generally better then single classes, except for a few exceptions where SC shines - but mostly in end game only. Wizard and Monk come to mind. Where a MC Monk will be much better throughout most of the game, before he gets the final abilities.

They are all op, you don't need a specialisation.

Monk/what are you referring to? Monk/fighter?
Keep in mind single classes get stuff much faster, it's not about lvl 20 power even.

Any multiclass combination where one class has powerful passives (Cipher, Warrior, Barb, Chanter) and the other has powerful actives, blows most single classes out of the water, with the exception of single class Monk and some pure caster setups.

Theoretically yes, in-game no. Because of how Power Level scales low level abilities (increases the base) you need a borderline broken interaction to overcome the difference.

For instance, which Barb/X do you think is stronger than Barb or X alone?

Monk / Cipher, Monk / Wizard, Monk / Rogue, Monk / Paladin for example.

Single class monk is better than all of those.

Agreed. But you missed the ultimate DD, rogue.
