Those games were very popular in the early 2000's.

In a short tine span we had Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Dark Alliance II, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to Arms, Justice League Heroes, Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows, X-Men Legends and even Fargo's hack & slashy "Bard's Tale".

Most of these use the exact same engine, so I imagine they were easy and cheap to produce.

stages of grief:
-please don’t buy this studio
-the talent quit years ago
-they never made good games anyway
-please trust rpgcodex alt right haven

Obsidian Entertainment on why they joined Microsoft:
to be honest dude rpgcodex loyalty and praise wasn’t quite doing it for our 200 employees who needed healthcare and food hope u understand

Nearly 200 people getting laid off is preferable to RPGCodex not getting their favorite games anymore, guys. People go to bat for this dude.
If any of the mods follow me, please look into this guy’s pattern of near constant entitled gamer nonsense.

You think that’s it, but it gets worse. Apparently, Obsidian and inXile games aren’t worth playing anymore because—get this—RPGCodex, alt-right haven, doesn’t seem them satisfactory. There are several layers of idiocy at work here.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Bubbles In Memoria
What does he mean with that "anymore" -stuff?
Both companies had lackluster processes that brought lackluster games; Microsoft overseeing them might even be an improvement.
I actually liked Wasteland 2.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was a significant success
this is definitely new to me. Always thought it looks crappy and probably a flop or mediocre sales
Dark Alliance is really good actually. Bit short, isometric hacky slashy mashy game. Presentation and UI is all clean, atmospheric and not obnoxious like the MMO UIs with bars and shit everywhere that the genre devoled to. DA2 is bigger, but it's more formulaic and böring.

Sales wise it was successful enough to get a sequel and another one was planned but it died with Black Isle.
