Sorry, I don't understand something: is Valve holding them hostage? If they think they don't "deserve" it, why won't they leave?

In last week's top sellers, Stellaris DLC won the half-baked AAA game. In the current global chart, the DLC still stands at the top and JC4 is dropped to the second page.

#10 - Northgard
#9 - Assassin's Creed Odyssey
#8 - Farming Simulator 19
#7 - MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD
#6 - Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden
#5 - X4: Foundations
#4 - Artifact
#3 - PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS
#2 - Just Cause 4
#1 - Stellaris: MegaCorp

Mutant Year Zero seems to be doing fine for what it is.

Insurgency: Sandstorm was a big-ish new game last week. And as expected, Just Cause 4 is dead.

#10 - Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands
#9 - MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD
#8 - Kingdom Two Crowns
#7 - No Man's Sky
#6 - Farming Simulator 19
#5 - Stellaris: MegaCorp
#4 - Insurgency: Sandstorm
#3 - Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege - Year 4 Pass
#2 - Grand Theft Auto V
#1 - PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS

Also people still buying No Man's Sky. (Let's ignore PUBG for a moment.)

Just a small heads-up for those still bothering with the Steam Trading Cards: Valve has decided to stop users from getting card drops from games that are 'free' for a limited time, such as the recent giveaway titles Geneshift and Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

The reason seems to be bots, as Geneshift had an average player count of 30, then suddenly spiked to 213.000 in the last 24 hours.

Valve, as of yet, has not commented.

I wonder who could be behind this.

Notes on Best Developer category:
"Best Developer” proved to be a highly-contested category with a lot of close calls among the top nominees. As a result, we expanded the set of nominees to 10. In addition, we’ve excluded ourselves from this category. We appreciate the love you’ve shown us, but we want to honor the other awesome developers on Steam, so we have excluded Valve from the final tally.

So, which VR game should I pick when I never played a VR game?
I wonder how many people who vote in these polls never played anything from the lists.
What are the chances PUBG doesn't win "game of the year"?
Will the campaign to vote Bethesda "Best Developer" for the lulz catch on?
So many questions.

I guess I'll just press some buttons.

Why is there no Fallout 76 in GotY and "best environment"?!
Because Fallout 76 isn't sold on steam.
Dang, I forgot there are games beyond Steam.

What'd you all pick up in the Steam Sale? I wanted to try Parkitect but it's still full price. Not sure if I'll pull the trigger on anything.

A handful of cheap adventure games, Battle Brothers DLC expansion, Rising Storm 2 (been a while since I fps'd shit and christmas event seems like fun), The Council, Dead State finally kek, Beholder franchise bundle, some other cheap stuff. Not that much to be honest keeping my spending under 70 dollars because none of the stuff I really desired was marked down all that much.

Codex Year of the Donut
GOTY: Kingdom Come Deliverance. Not my GOTY, but it's the best out of the list.
VR GOTY: Skyrim VR because Todd managed to get people to buy Skyrim again
Labor of love: Stardew Valley. A lot of effort went into the game and feels like the first true Harvest Moon game since the N64.
Best Developer: CD Projekt Red. None of the others are even in the same league as CDProjekt sans maybe Digital Extremes.
Best Environment: Witcher 3
Better with friends: Payday 2
Best alternate history: Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Most fun with a machine: Nier: Automata
