The OC is cheesy as hell but I think it's fun. There are some bugs and the engine could be better. MotB is good.

in nwn2 you can play as yuan ti or tiefling that is cool. but they level up slower than other races.

there are bunch of interesting prestige classes, too.

Overall I'd say yes. The first chapter is a long boring slog, with occasional bits of quality, but after that the game really starts opening up and near the end really gets good. Then you've got the expansions and mods, and after that maybe tinkering with the toolset to add potentially hundreds of hours of content.
Really needed to be turn based though.

NWN2 physically pains me to play, even MotB, so I'd say hell no. I'm not entirely sure what it is about it that bothers me so much but some combination of the graphics, the slight delay in the interface, the constantly picking up crafting garbage (In MotB at least), Christ almighty. NWN1's base campaign is absolute garbage but for whatever reason playing NWN1 in more pleasant circumstances (The expansions, modules) doesn't annoy me much while 2 bothers the hell out of me. Although I still never played through NWN1 OC because fuck that.

NWN2 went overboard on the spell effects and graphics. That can really kill older computers or those that has a lot of resident programmes or other crap in it. NWN is less graphics intensive and therefore gives a smoother ride.

What NWN2 has going for it is an OC that is far better than the NWN one, which was basically a variation of Mario: Find the 4 Mcguffins. Sorry, our Princess (bad guys) is in another castle. Go to Chapter (Stage) 2. Find another 3-4 McGuffins. Sorry, our Princess is in another castle. Go to Chapter 3...

Both NWN's original campaigns should be nuked and removed from existence, it would do both games a big favor. I tried to play MOTB and it just didn't sit with me - graphic style being worse than the predecessor (that can be made to look very well, actually), everything looking like it's made of fucking plastic, tedious camera, atrocious party management (the wizard using the most powerful, ninth circle spells upon encountering every trash mob; another tedium to constantly jump between one party member and another to make them do what they should be doing), etc. I didn't get far enough with the story and I suspect the Codex is respecting it for a reason, but I didn't really like what I've seen as far as I got and had no incentive to muster through the aforementioned issues. The companion that you break out of prison felt like he belongs in a fanfic that makes the usual fanfics actually decent.

Gann? He's OK. They were going for the jaded cynic, but went overboard with the narcissism. Since I play male characters, he doesn't mean much to me and I rarely bother talking to him. The nice thing about MotB is that all of the companions had reasons to follow you. They are all tied to the main story, one way or another, which is completely unlike the OC where most of the companions are basically there for no reason. Most of them are there just so that you can have a choice of NPC class, which is a stupid reason for having NPCs.

It is on sale again. Should I buy NWN2 or NWN1? I've played original campaigns about 10 years ago and don't care much for them but which game has better modules?

Never had time for user modules, but NWN2's Mask of the Betrayer expansion is the best thing in the whole lot.

Sure, I've played it a few times. The only bad thing about it is that when you're playing MoTB without going through original campaign first, something feels a bit off in the narrative. Not particularly uncomfortable, but still weird.

But now I'm kinda interested in good/alrighty user-generated content. A few years ago I read somewhere that NWN2 community produced considerably less decent modules.

1 is just as worth it for hordes as 2 is for mask.

I did finish the oc for 2 but in retrospect I should have just skipped it.

I liked the hell in the Hordes.

And some ridiculous defence of some settlement that I vaguely remember.

And all your answers made me buy Pathfinder on GOG.
