ULTIMA 3 on there? Really and 2?

I do t get where those were hard at all. 2 was time consuming as hell and the clues a bit dorky due to the npc system and “conversation.” 3 not even.

Over at gamefaqs, users can rank a game's difficulty with a 1-5 scale and they've also set it up that you can list 'em by rank as so https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games/rankings?platform=19&genre=48&list_type=diff&dlc=1&min_votes=2. I've cherry picked a bunch of notable titles so youse don't have to sift through all the shovelware. The first number is the quality ranking (out of 5), the second is the difficulty score, 5 being the highest quality/difficulty.

While I don't agree with all the individual placements, I do believe they got them all in the right ballpark. Congratulations to Sawyer for delivering a Dungeon Siege-tier screen saver with Deadfire, truly a pathetic job.
Dead money is not hard, at all. Neither is Fallout 2, you just need to savescum, a lot.

Buck Rogers at number 3?

Someone tell these newbs you can stock up on infinite amount of "rocket launchers" (local slang for wands of fireballs) w/10 charges per item for every character right at the very first shop.

Are those Buck Rogers games really that hard? Never played them but none of the gold-box games were ever really difficult.
Countdown to Doomsday is must play, IMO. I actually wrote about difficulty earlier in this thread but IMO, no if you don't crank up the difficulty.

Word of warning though, Buck Rogers: The Matrix Cubed has the most annoying trash mob mechanic of all of the Gold Box games. So even if I recommend trying BR: Countdown to Doomsday, I can't say the same for sequel.

Try playing them without Internet guides and the clue book.

Why is Gateway to the Savage Frontier even up there? You hit level cap for mages in that game by the 2nd or 3rd dungeon, after which you just mow down enemies like they were made of paper. The hardest fight in the whole game (other than the continuous multi-fight finale) was when you were chasing the Big Bad to Ascore and wanted to take on the big group in the middle of town head on (which you were warned not to do, by the way). Even then a barrage of Fireballs made it into a clean-up rather than a fight of any kind...

Yeah, that game was obviously designed with the nebiew in mind.
The potentitally best fight in the game was against an army of goblinoids, but then it turns out it's just an illusion.
But it did have a very memorable last battle, even if you were not supposed to kill the Zhentil boss.

The last battle was a joke for me. The swamp things were vulnerable to Stinking Cloud. I just spammed the shit out of it and one-shot kill just about everything :D

I played ULTIMA 3 on the c64 when I came out and u2 at the same time. Only games I played before was Questron, temple of Apshai, upper reaches of Apshai, rescue on Rigel, and blue max. I sure as hell didn’t have a c64 internet connection. Didn’t have any mag subscriptions either. Was just starting out.

Dungeon Siege's difficulty is ranked far too high. The game was known as a glorified screensaver even at release, and still is today. Very pretty game for its era, but not exactly difficult.

No one talks about it/played it because it was ssi's last rpg and it sucked but I'd bet good money Thunderscape is the hardest rpg of all time.

You can find plenty of dorks who beat wiz 4 on youtube, none of the LP's of Thundersacpe even reached the last 3 levels.

Are we supposed to hate Dungeon Siege around here? I liked the first one.

Who cares if you liked it, I hated it but be a shark not a sheep.

Sharks don't have necks and don't look back.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Divinity: Original Sin 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
I still have to get to Serpent in the Staglands soon. Too many games.
I've been thinking the same actually. I need to check up on SitS to see what it looks like with the latest patch. I played a little of it at release but it was still too buggy.

It is fascinating how life time of rpg playing changes ones perspective on difficulty.
