KickStarter It's time to accept that Infinitron's calamitous reign is a failure

It began with an offhand comment, a mere hint of clouds on the horizon:

https://rpgcodex.net/forums/index.p...t-to-take-over-the-codex.120156/#post-5463097
"As DarkUnderlord has said, I've been operating as the de-facto editor-in-chief for quite a while now. I do have some ideas for the forum that I can now effect with my new admin powers, but I'm not going to do anything drastic without DU's approval."

The ranks of the great unwashed have heard nothing further on the subject, no newspost stating the new direction for the Codex, not even a response to their pitiful pleas in Site Feedback. So all we can do is sit back, consider the clues, and see what is taking shape behind the smokescreen of noise and mild drama put up by Deadfire fans and other useful idiots.

- Anything deemed too controversial or edgy is now quickly hidden in "Gaming Drama" and even swiftly retardo'd from there, as with the JF/Realms Beyond stuff. Probably makes sense though, given this forum was, after all, founded to "be nice to developers". So on its own this isn't too serious.
- More forums hidden from newcomers, including the Library. Possibly due to people expressing non-PC thoughts about films, books and caped adventures in general. Ok, fine.
- Gradual tightening-up of moderation, retardoing and the purging of alts. Slowly, steadily, with notable exceptions when it comes to Obsidian fans like Safav - so the overall level of shitposting appears to remain relatively constant. Cleverly done, in fact, everyone is a winner with this arrangement.
- Purging of all "political" smileys, even ones just depicting Kwanzanian fatties. Changes the character of this place a bit, and Commissar Draco posts have been eviscerated, but such is the price of progress.
- The strategy/tactics/simulation thing. Meh.

So all ok so far, just minor tweaks hinting at a larger strategic plan. But now we come to the serious shit.

- Removing the Cooking and Sport subforums, without so much as a word :rage: . Forums that make up the core of the Codex experience, its very reason for existing. Moderators are reduced to begging the cold and impassive 'Tron for the return of their realms. Peons shake their tiny fists in Site Feedback. Yet the inheritor of DU's vacant throne remains silent.

So where do we lurkers and ordinary members stand? Clearly all the recent talk of a breakaway forum will go nowhere as usual. Only a deranged lunatic would think a site where people are completely free to be critical of devs or discuss pizza crusts would ever take off. So all we can do is watch and wait and accept the reality we face. And hope that our ruler may one day grace us with a "State of Codexia" address so we may understand his vision for our future.

Who's been talking about this?
Probably the lowlifes in shoutbox.
Well a breakaway site isn't such a bad idea, but it can only be viable with new sponsors to guarantee the site independence . None of those should be affiliated to gaming editors to prevent any shilling and corruption the like we notice today, but the sponsors should be compatible with the codex high standards.. .Let me contact prestigious and reliable announcers like pornhub, bad dragon , or trannyHQ .

Jews. Jews ruin everything (in b4 this thread gets retardo'd now too for anti semitism). This is why removing JarlFrank for good rather than a temporary demotion was a bad idea despite his deleting certain posts; yes it was a mistake and he was too naive in getting put in that situation but one mistake should not call for a permanent judgement. He's actually the type of mod/admin best suited for this place, almost completely invisible when modding/admining

no newspost stating the new direction for the Codex

If Infinitron ever were to make a news post about the 'new direction for the Codex' .

See this would never happen. Changes will be gradual and slow, mimicking the the boiling water and the frog. Any questions or complaints will be met with silence, so as to cause minimal drama. Eventually, in a few short years the Codex will have transformed completely into a run of the mill pristine-ly PC message board, indistinguishable from most others. It won't be as fantaically SJW or politically correct like rpg.net, nor will it be what it is now (i.e. a place of free speech and where criticism is not covered up) . It will just be boring.

In other words RPGWatch II.

Btw I would say I have nothing against Infinitron, I think he made for an excellent (almost too excellent) newsposter, keeping us all up to date on news not just about vidya but other stuffies in GRPGD. I also admire his thick skin, wit and ability to stay cool and not take things personally (though I don't care at all for his shilling of certain companies that keep scamming RPG fans and putting out shit dressed up in nostalgia and overly verbose writing). I'm just saying that's where I see things headed. Its also unfair to pin the blame on Infinitron alone as he is not the owner or head admin, and no type of site direction would be permissible without their approval.

Then again given the political internet climate, and the fact that it is getting very hard to remain anonymous on the internet and the alarming real world implications on people if they were linked to some of the more 'extreme' things said here, even in jest, I also don't really blame the owner/administration for changing the codex or making more and more things private and out of the tendrils of googles crawl bots.

Last but not least, I would warn everyone not to underestimate the influence of Crooked Bee, who still lurks in the shadows and pulls all the strings after a mysterious & meteoric rise to power here (even faster than Infinitron'
s, who at least put in the work for years). Its possible Infinitron is a scape goat put out in front of everyone to take all the blame from veteran posters while the Bee continues on her agenda in secret.

Clearly all the recent talk of a breakaway forum will go nowhere as usual.

Who's been talking about this?

There was a guy who started his own breakaway forum ages ago. I forgot his name, the guy who emailed ScottishMartialArts to come visit him in Poland or something.

This pretty much sums it up. Maybe a vagina is the reason for a ((certain someone's)) rise to power

'tron, real talk - I imagine you are probably always looking for some way to try and rein in forum/topic sprawl, and/or kind of ease newbies into being somewhat productive forum members instead of permanent GD haunts or what-have-you but a lot of these recent changes? Really wish you had run them by people first as a proposal to gauge interest/reaction and maybe crowdsource a bit for suggestions for solutions to problems you feel are present. I mean, I know it's not a democracy per se, but complete top-down stuff when dealing with matters of content (as opposed to other kinds of moderation actions, where top-down is pretty much the only realistic way to handle it) just results in asspain and confusion.

Unless that was your intent after all, in which case bravo?

Not sure what to think of this, but Infinitron is captain-of-the-ship to the best of my knowledge, and even if someone were kicking strange suggestions to him I would think he's the last one to sign off on them.

A horse of course

You don't know that. He might just be playing the long game...

You can't be sure who is who anyway. DU might as well already sold the company to Infinitron together with his account.

Maybe he's wearing a mask by now...
