A single Otobreda (be it te 127mm or the 76mm version) is faster and more effective than entire WW2-era battleships, and that's good. Not that such kinds of weapons are even useful in the contemporary naval doctrine if not for niche uses.

I wouldn't go that far given the sheer limitations that can effect round size as well as the size and armour difference today.

A good example of all of that is the sheer uselessness of naval guns under 76mm. The typical stated logic behind them is one makes up for the weaker round in greater volume of fire, but that ignores the major drop in explosive payload that comes with that. In the end, things less than 76mm are only good for punching holes in ships sides, not for sinking them or eviscerating their insides with HE.

Naval tech has and design has a lot of those weird things crop up that can result in the 6inch being the greatest optimal size round for manual loading guns (which itself still effects tanks to this day) that also made the 8inch a terrible one only widely used because of treaty limitations, to the "sweet spots" in displacement that makes the next optimal size in warship after the 10,000 tons around 24,000 as the trade offs in design between those two numbers are too great to really justify building an intermediate displacement warship these days.

That latter bits a big debate in the USN as they've reached the limits that can be done with Burke sized DDs, but are conflicted over if they should make the jump to Kirov sized ones or not (DDG-1000, like pretty much every thing about it's design, is the worst optimized and smack dab in the middle of that size range).

Did we get any naval engagement after WW2 bar the war for the Malvinas?

Nothing major outside of small craft antics, which in the case of many Middle East ones simply serve to demonstrate just how awful the Israeli Navy is.

the submarine was stored in a dry dock, with the part containing the nuclear reactor removed and replaced by empty steel tube.

There wouldn've have been much to see in the reactor anyway, just plenty of very classified panels and readings.

I had a good chuckle watching Ice Station Zebra a few weeks ago when Ernest Borgnine's character asks to see the reactor and someone then opens a floor hatch for him to gaze down at something glowing beneath as if he's looking into the innards of the reactor himself.

Mines oh my!

Rear Admiral Azira's Diary; 15/09/1914:

The Armored Cruiser squadron, really? I swear I'll have whoever's responsible for this rotting in a wine cellar. I sailed my ship up the Yangtze during the Boxer's rebellion, sank the only remaining Chinese battleship in a gun duel and rescued single-handedly the whole of the French legation. They're still sending crates of Champagne um Gottes willen! Bah, and now they’ve been sending me to escort crummy old mine-layers. A war hero like me! Now, where did I leave that brandy that I got just before the war declaration…

qpFHhnL.png

Anyways, the first mission was on the 18th. Under my command I had the CAs York, Roon and Prinz Heinrich as well as the crummiest, slowest light cruisers of the fleet, Munchen and Stuttgart. Oh, and some pointless destroyers too I guess. We were to escort the AMC Kaiser, a fancy ocean liner that we converted with a few3’’ guns and several mine rails, off the coast of Yarmouth to lay a mine field while we would lob a few shells at the unsuspecting civilians. They made me a shepherd for a cowardly form of war and a baby killer to boot…..

….Ah, thank you Brandy, you always know how to cheer me up….

KsWZOcP.png

Once we reached the British coast we spotted some merchant ships sailing around. I find the Guerre de course distasteful, but following admiralty orders I sent the CLs after them. To my horror I discovered afterwards that one of them was carrying a load of Scottish Whisky…I’ll be hanged for war-crimes if this blasted war ever ends…

6c0f5AR.png

Lfwzo3M.png

In any case, the bombardment and the mine -laying (the red line on the second image) went without a hitch, but then at 6:42…

4Wykgmx.png

ZSBu3nU.png

Contact!

Using my tactical genius, I managed to draw the enemy squadron (just some light forces, beneath my pay-grade) into the freshly laid minefield. Their light-cruiser ran into a mine and blew up sky-high! Deadly and economical, that’s what I am. Since my crummy squadron couldn’t catch up to a bunch of 30+ kn destroyers, I ordered every home and celebrated with my staff with some Porto I had brought along for the occasion.

tE2yDzl.png

Now, instead of congratulating me and giving me a command more appropriate for my talent, the Admiralty sent me out again on the 1st of September to escort a mine-laying operation.

mEL0Pcb.png

And this time nothing interesting happened, we just caught a patrolling DD, sank a merchant ship (I swear I saw a crate of Indian Pale Ale floating in the wrecks) and came back home for another mine-laying assignment. Luckily I had a bottle of French Genepi to fortify my resolve and prevent me from declaring a coup and seizing the Navy for myself.

And here we are dear diary, 15th of September and I’m still leading the most obsolete and pointless squadron of the Kriegsmarine and still playing nanny to some mine-layer….I’ll go up on the deck to change my mind now, also I heard that the crew managed to sneak in some pre-war Bordeau wine…

Grumf, at ease lieutenant….Anything to report?

images
Sir no sir!

2337.jpg
Huum…where did the destroyers go….

images
Sir, as per your orders last night, the Destroyer squadron was ordered not sail so as to not ‘Steal our hard-earned schnapps ration’! Sir!

2337.jpg
I said that….? Takes a swing from a Cointreaux pocket flask . Oh well, this is just some routine mission, we’ll be fine.

NhuhZZK.png

Will everything be fine for Azira's liver and his screen deprived squadron? Find out next time on SAI!

Puff, that was some hard work, but the ship is saved. Situation report captain.

But Admiral...how did you do it? The ship was sinking....

2337.jpg
Me and the crew finished those extra Schnapps bottles, linked them together and chained them on the side of the ship. The extra buoyancy is what's allowing us to float right now captain.

6e5acf6fdb2e54536789ad97c889f040--german-submarines-wk.jpg
That must have been a a hard decision Admiral, emptying all those bottle into the ocean..

2337.jpg
...Who said anything about wasting them....?

6e5acf6fdb2e54536789ad97c889f040--german-submarines-wk.jpg
Oh... well after you left and SMS Yorck got hit our Light Cruisers charged into the British formation. They managed to push them away from us until contact was broken at around 15:00. We have unconfirmed reports of 3 DD sunk.

We are currently making way towards Wilhelmshaven at 6kn, the CL are signalling no damage and the Yorck and Prinz Heinrich are signalling they stopped all flooding and are safe for the journey ahead.

2337.jpg
Good job Captain, steady as she goes. Oh and give me back that bottle of Vodka, will you?

EjqZxLF.png

Oh dear, in his misfortune Azira DID get lucky as the whole of the Grand Fleet sortied out and patrolled the middle North Sea while he was having his little scrap off Yarmouth. I seriously messed up on that one, somehow I had forgotten to activate the Destroyer flotilla that was to escort us and as a result had no one to countercharge the enemy's torpedo runs. Now the whole Armored Cruiser squadron is gonna take months for repair and it will have low priority on it (remember that we have only 6 repair slots in total). So Azira is gonna need a new job in the near future.

Azira as your whole squadron is in dry dock for repairs, you are temporarily out of a job. Do you:

A Choose another ship? Something more befitting your hero-status?
B The BCS is still lacking a commander and you are a Rear-Admiral. You'll have to suffer the presence of Codexer Captains who might resent your intrusion but you'll get to pick your flagship and lord it over them.

Until next time, in which the meaning of all these mine-fields is revealed!

MEN! It is voting time!

Winter and its shorter days are coming, add to that that several of our capital ships will soon need a refit and this means that we only have about two turns left for a possible 1914 High Seas Fleet sortie. After that we will be missing too many big ships and we might just as well wait for the next year when our new Konig-Class BBs will arrive.

Captains votes will count for 1 while rear-admirals (so only Azira at the moment) count for 2.

A: Let us strike now! Our training is superb and we have mauled their light forces at no cost. Let us show those Britbongs what the Kriegsmarine can do!
In which case:
A1: Let's bring the old Bs along. We'll need every gun we can and a 11'' is still an 11'' regardless of the ship carrying it
A2: Slow, fragile and unreliable, let us leave the Bs at port, they will only be a liability.

B: Let us wait for the new year, our strong Koning-class will arrive and the BB ratio will never be more favorable than then. It would be suicide to attack before that moment.

Poor Zumwalt. Hey, it looks great, and military procurement is mostly based on looks and buzzwords. Who cares if it works! We'll never find out!

They'll never use it!

B - A1

Maybe I played it in a gamey way, but updated B's used with caution rarely gave me problems in RTW. Hell, for some uses they could be kept for decades on the roster.

It's yet another product of the cult of Transformation that came out of Rumsfeld and Co. They had to reinvent not just the wheel, but everything else rejecting any sort of evolutionary development or practical sensibleness as hidebound traditionalism.

They'll never use it!

They can't even if they wanted to.

The most that'll come of them is being used as experimental platforms for new tech, but even then they're limited given the problems with their engines that shut down everything on them, defences and sensors included.

I always love building semi-Dreads and then can't find myself able to part with them. :(

I've edited the OP with a NAVY LIST for my own house-keeping sake BTW. We still have plenty of ships without proper leaders, so any of you lurker or simple readers (I'm looking at you Beastro) come and join the Kriegsmarine! So far I've just extrapolated personalities based on avatars or message-history stalking (or even previous LPs where applicable) but feel free to tell me who your captain is.

Most of the BCs are already claimed, but there are plenty of BBs ripe for the taking (can be found in the second Main Post, crossed ships are unavailable). Of course you could claim a Light Cruiser or a Destroyer, but don't expect to live too long.

That thing... I can't decide whether it's the ugliest thing to grace the seven seas or if it's the coolest most futuristic ship ever made :D

I always love building semi-Dreads and then can't find myself able to part with them.
Aye, I feel like I've overstated their uselessness a tad. Then again my experience is from RTW too where you can upgrade them with newer fire-controls, secondary director, new engine... so our current Bs (which we can't upgrade like in RTW) might actually be useless... But this is a I have no idea what I'm doing edition, so the Codex shall vote and decide.

Keep on voting mah boyz, but remember that it's not because we want a battle that we will get one, the Royal Navy might just stay in port or we might just miss each other in the misty nights of the North Sea. But I'll try :salute:

I'll go with A for my specific vote. Give me command of the -SMS Kaiser. That should suffice.

As to the war in general, this read-admiral is in favor of A2

All right, A2 wins. I would say that I'm not surprised but then again I was sure everyone would vote for the Arena of Steel Scenario, so sometimes the Codex can still surprise me. And thanks Dayyalu for staying in character :)

Expect an update sometimes tomorrow men!:salute:

So, something unexpected happened while doing a mine-laying mission in preparation for our big sortie. Which one of you brave Captains listened to nothing but his courage and jumped to the command of the Pre-Dreadnought Battleships and sailed out to fight (yes, we got caught with our pants down)? It's a rather big event ATM (still playing it right now) and I'd like to have a :obviously: Codexian personality to include in the report.

From now on any nondescript sailor will be represented by your friendly Codex Troll. We shall now resume our scheduled broadcast.

Dogger Bank, 30/09/1914, somewhere in the middle of the night aboard the SMS Straussburg

codex_is_for.png
Humf, and that's last one of them!

codex_troll.png
I swear on me mum, why did it have to be us?

codex_is_for.png
What d'ya mean?

codex_troll.png
The whole fleet is off in the Baltic doing fancy malarkey training manoeuvres and we're freezing our balls in the middle of the North Sea dropping mines in the middle of nowhere that’s what I mean.

codex_is_for.png
Blimey, when the Admiral gives an order you jump to it boyo. He's like a tacticool genius or sumthin' you know? He's got a master plan up his sleeve I tell ya.

codex_troll.png
Pfff, wotever. Hey, you think we can break out some of that Schnapps the Rear-Admiral sent us?

codex_is_for.png
Capital idea boyo! It's not like the limeys are gonna come out now anyways. I tell you, that Azira is a real gentleman. A gentleman and a scholar! Only a real chap would think of us poor buggers out there like that.

codex_troll.png
Cheers!

9:30 SMS Strassburg and SMS Graudenz after having finishing laying minefields are on their way back to port.

h2OvDoV.png

codex_troll.png
Captain! We have received reports from merchant ships of British heavy ships off the port of Emden. Admiralty requires us to investigate.

baka.png
With half of my crew drunk! Gotterhimmel, I swear I'll write a report condemning that scoundrel Azira for that. It was him who smuggled those schnapps bottle aboard my ship, wasn't it?

codex_troll.png
Sir?

baka.png
Oh forget it. Just wake those bastards up and get the coalers to raise steam for full speed. We might soon be in trouble if those reports are true.

codex_troll.png
Captain, enemy capital ships spotted dead ahead! I count one, no two...no, make that FIVE British Battlecruisers!

baka.png
Meine Gott...And with the whole fleet off for training....Reverse course. Full speed to Helgoland. We need to draw them towards the Helgoland batteries. Signal to the Admiralty: the Battle Cruiser Fleet is inbound for Wilhelmshaven.

Wilhelmshaven, Admiralty’s house. 15:30

Run for your lives!

deadtroll.png
We’re doomed!

12415.jpg
Oy, you there, wot’s happening here?

codex_troll.png
Captain Kalin! What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with the fleet in the Baltic for the manoeuvres?

12415.jpg
Pfff, instead of giving me a bonus for my excellent command at the Broad Fourteens the Admiral kept me home to write a gunnery manual, The Awesome Button: How to Pop some Moles at High Speeds. So I’m still here. Now tell me wot’s happening, will ya?

codex_troll.png
The British are here! They’re in the Bight! Our cruisers are keeping them distracted around the Helgoland batteries but our reserve Battleships are still raising steam. They’ve had troubles getting the crews back from shore in time and the Rear-Admiral in charge of them is nowhere to be found!

YonPfUr.png

VnZzQLM.png

12415.jpg
Fack, sign me up for that job, I’ll crush those sickos! The bonus is gonna be yuge!

-
codex_troll.png
But sir, you’re…only a captain…

12415.jpg
No time to argue, I’ve got seniority over those reserve captains, innit? Let’s go!

So yeah, we got caught with our pants down. With the whole fleet bar the old pre-dreads and a few light forces off for training and thus unavailable for emergency activation the brits decided to expose all their BCs and about 10 CAs in a raid right in front of our main port. When I told you that I was a noob at the operational side of SAI I meant it. Also the Bs took AGES to raise steam, no idea why. I think I emergency activated at around 10:00 after spotting the BCs but they were only ready at around 17:00 whilst according to the manual ships emergency activated are ready to move out only 3 hours after activation.

SMS Preussen, 17:00.

:whiteknight:Captain Kalin, what are you doing here? You’ve got no business being here!

12415.jpg
*Smacks the offending sailor on the head*. I have seniority here over all you useless nerds, so I AM in charge, gotcha? Anyone has a problem can take it to the Admiralty once we’re done winning this mess. Gud, now full speed ahead for Helogoland as soon as we have enough steam. And gibs me a situation report!

codex_troll.png
Sir, we have spotted a full Armored Cruiser squadron as well as at least 4 destroyer flotilla on top of the five battle-cruisers.

PyJGyTV.png

12415.jpg
Gud, signal to our Cruisers to engage them at range and draw them south. We need to bring them towards us.

OT9KWnX.png

snnIP6V.png

codex_troll.png
Night is almost coming sir, are we gonna risk a night engagement?

12415.jpg
Night is gud, we’ll fight them at close range, like shells in the night. Full steam ahead and signal the destroyers to move out and find those sickos.

l9CGBH3.png

19:03; Contact!

rdsx2tC.png

12415.jpg
Chaaaaarge!!

codex_troll.png
Enemy Battle-cruisers spotted dead-ahead sir.

12415.jpg
Fuck, no Bueno. Signal for destroyer drive-by shootan.

codex_troll.png
But…they’re out of torpedoes…

12415.jpg
Did you tell the Britbongs about it? No, thought so. They’ll get scared away. Reverse course, we’ll take advantage of their evasive maneuvers to get away from them.

xzb3rM2.png

We break contact with the BCs thanks to our DD bluff. Then at 19:58 a lone DD spots the whole of the CA fleet slightly east of us.

4uJkIyW.png

12415.jpg
We’ve got them now boyz. Signal to the fleet my Gunnery manual, will ya? They’re reservist land-lubbers, they’ll need my knowledge.

Nowhere to ruuuuuuuun to, baby, nowhere to hiiiiiiiiide.
Alright lads, job done, this was a huuuuuuge victory! If I don’t get my bonnaz I swear I’m gonna burn the admiralty to the ground.

xbcG7cc.png

Essentially the perfect engagement for our Pre-Dreads. Point-blank range, enemy's formation disrupted due to my constant charging in and out with the DD and their ships coming up one by one against the massed gun of all our Bs like moles for the popping. Furthermore, I had been training up the Bs, so they were all at crew level +1 with some (including the SMS Preussen) at +2. One of ours, the Hannover was hit by a torpedo, but thanks to the fact the fight was taking place right next to our port she was never in serious danger.

Admiralty’s house, the day after.

15522.jpg
Kalin, we’ve read your report, I think we have to talk.

12415.jpg
You bet we gotta talk, I deserve the mother of all bonaz for winning that glorious victory.

-
15322.jpg
Yes, quite. You should get court-martialled actually. Illegally seizing a ship is a serious offence.

12415.jpg
WHAAAAT?

15522.jpg
Yes, and usurpation of authority is an even graver crime in the Kriegsmarine.

12415.jpg
:x

15322.jpg
In normal circumstances the sentence would be death by hanging, but…

12415.jpg
GNNNNNNN……?

15522.jpg
You did demonstrate courage, initiative and ruthlessness in action…

12415.jpg
……gh?

15322.jpg
All qualities required for a great commander in times of war…

12415.jpg
……bo…na…az?

15522.jpg
I can therefore announce your promotion to the rank of Rear-Admiral, to immediate effect. You shall from now on lead the Battle-Cruiser Squadron into battle.

12415.jpg
…… :dealwithit: ?

15522.jpg
But I still need to punish you for your actions, you shall remain on half-pay for the foreseeable future.

12415.jpg
*Collapses on the floor, unconscious*:deadtroll:

15322.jpg
You think he’ll be okay?

15522.jpg
Certain, I think that that was too much contradictory information for him to handle. He’ll be fine.

Gentlemen, welcome. The war is only two months old and already we have won many brilliant victories. All our sailors are anxious to put to sea after the recent British raid into Helgoland and thirsty for revenge. I have gathered you here today to introduce you all to our upcoming operation Bag a Brit. Before I'll explain it I would like to take a moment to introduce you all to some of our new captains and officers and clarify our command structure.

Our Kaiser class Dreadnoughts, are formed into the powerful 6.Linenshiffdivision. They are commanded by Konteradmiral Azira aboard the flagship SMS Kaiser.

2337.jpg
*Hips* Cheers!

15522.jpg
With him to command his ship is Kapitan Comte.

14228.jpg
*giggle* Bonjour messieurs. Such a pleazure to be serving with such handsome men *giggle*

15522.jpg
Kapitan Baud, aboard the SMS Prinzregent Luitpold.

The ocean is more ancient than the mountains, the Cross of St Georges will suffer the consequences of its arrogance. F'taghn

15522.jpg
Kapitan Dayyalu commanding the Konig Albert.

15322.jpg
Such a heavy burden ours is, the entire fate of our nation rests on our Altlantean shoulders.*sigh*

15522.jpg
As befits my position I will personally lead the High Seas Fleet aboard the SMS Ostfriesland in the middle of our formation. Moving on, I think we are all familiar with the Battle Cruiser Squadron by this point, captains?

11403.jpg
Greetings.

17257.jpg
This entity salutes its colleagues and wishes them good health and felicitous fertility.

15522.jpg
And please all give a warm welcome to our newest Konteradmiral, promoted for his heroic courage in front of Helgoland. Konteradmiral Kalin leader of the BCS.

12415.jpg
...........gh..........?

15322.jpg
Admiral, he really doesn't look any better...

17257.jpg
This entity questions this choice commander.

11403.jpg
It is not enough to attain power, one must also maintain it. Each minor problem like a grain of sand, each night he will inherit the desert....patience Zool, our time will come soon....

22873.jpg
Brother Kalin, have you witnessed the truth?Mgep ymg' seen ya uh'eogoth?

12415.jpg
..........bo.......naz.........?

15522.jpg
Enough! This decision has been confirmed by der Kaiser! Question my choice and you're questioning the Kaiser Himself.

14228.jpg
Hihi, such a manly commander, qu'il est beau quand il s'enerve *swooon*

15522.jpg
Moving on, this is the plan gentlemen. It is a simple plan but complicated plans are always destined to fail in the face of the enemy. The Battle Cruiser squadron will bombard the coast of of England around Hartlepool at first lights in the morning. It will have to dodge around some newly-laid enemy mine-fields our spies have informed us of. It will demonstrate as long as possible in order to draw the Grand Sea fleet out of its hiding in Scapa Flow around which our long-range submarine will lay in ambush. Meanwhile the High Seas Fleet will wait around the Dogger Bank, ready to come in support of the Battle Cruisers. If feasible we will feign a retreat towards either the Dogger Bank or the Yarmouth mine-fields we have been laying down in preparation of this. If the British Battle-Cruisers catch our BCS we know them to be too untrained to inflict significant damage until we've drawn them to the HSF. If the Dreadnoughts of the Grand Fleet come out the BCS will stand out of the range of their guns and lure them in such a fashion that we will be able to engage the in a superior position.
The Pre-Dreadnought will have to stay in port, speed will be the key to this operation!
I'd like to think of this as one of those American western films. The Battle Cruisers, lacking substantial armour, always short of ammunition- these are the besieged homesteaders, the British, well naturally, they're the bad guys, and the High Seas Fleet, we my friends, are the cavalry, on the way to the rescue. Only the weather can stop us now!

22873.jpg
Death to the Royal Navy, cahf ah nafl mglw'nafh hh' ahor eternally ah'legeth.

17257.jpg
This entity has only on wish: Die Britbongs.

15322.jpg
But signore, the risk to the Battlecruisers...?

15522.jpg
Acceptable.

2337.jpg
This rear-admiral is in favour of this plan. *hic*

14228.jpg
Mais messieur, it's too risky. Mon beau amiral...you might get hurt...

12415.jpg
..........guts.................bonaz.................gud................?

2337.jpg
A toast for the Kaiser, a toast for victory!

22873.jpg
Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Until next time gentlemen :salute:

The Battle of Dogger Bank

5S4eEXR.png

Well what do you know, just the turn we’ve decided on our first full fleet sortie the Admiralty orders us to reach a point just north of the Dogger Bank with 8 Capital Ships, free VPs for the taking.

ATBVjb5.png

Our fleet is divided into two groups. First, the BCS, comprising:

-the four battle-cruisers

-one light cruiser (due to the damage the others suffered during the battle of Helgoland Bight)

-fifteen destroyers

And the High Seas Fleet:

-Twelve dreadnought battleships

-Seven light cruisers

-Twenty-seven destroyers

Aboard SMS Kaiser

14228.jpg
Messieur l’amiral, bienvenue aboard the SMS Kaiser. In the name of all the crew I would like to express how honoured we all are to have you on board and that you would select us as your flagship.

2337.jpg
At ease Kapitan. That is certainly a much better ship than my old Roon I have to say.

14228.jpg
Merci amiral. I have taken the liberty of having a bottle of Veuve-Clicquot brought on-board. Your reputation as a man of refined taste precedes you.

2337.jpg
Danke, but first, take a look at this…

14228.jpg
Messieur?

2337.jpg
See here? The whole might of the German’s navy is here, assembled behind us…An awesome sight wouldn’t you say? And yet….the British are so much more powerful than us…our victories so far? Mere pin-pricks that will only serve to arouse the wrath of a mighty beast…We are playing with fire with this operation Kapitan, if our luck was to run out we would be crushed utterly…Yet we have to keep going in spite of this.

14228.jpg
These thoughts are best kept away messieur. They will do us no good when the battle will commence.

2337.jpg
Indeed you are right. Let us open that bottle now, shall we? Chase those dark thoughts away?

14228.jpg
Pops open the bottle Sante! A toast for the Kaiser, a toast for victory!

16:46 still some ways away from Dogger Bank

Gj3TXiQ.png

11403.jpg
Admiral, enemy ship spotted north! Light cruiser in all probability!

12415.jpg
……………gha……..?

11403.jpg
Admiral Kalin, what are your orders?

12415.jpg
……..gutz…….?

11403.jpg
The enemy cruiser is getting away, should we pursue it? Or do we stick to the plan?

17257.jpg
This entity requires clarification.

12415.jpg
…………….bonaz………….

kpjUNoZ.png

11403.jpg
DAMNIT, we’ve lost it now! It’s probably signalled our position to the whole of the Royal Navy at this point!

12415.jpg
………….candles…………

11403.jpg
Kapitan Grimgravy! I am taking immediate command of the squadron since our ‘admiral’ is an incompetent vegetable. I trust that you will refrain from informing the admiralty of this new development? I will need time to build my case and get rid of this embarrassing rival.

17257.jpg
This entity does not concerns itself with petty disputes. We are content with having effective leadership on the field.

11403.jpg
Good. Patience Zool, soon… soon…..

12415.jpg
………….grim………….gravy…………

We are able to lay an additional minefields unimpeded near the Dogger Bank then as planned our Battle Cruisers are just off Hartlepool as dawn comes up the next day.

11403.jpg
Signal to all ship: open fire at designated targets.

HsPxRcM.png

11403.jpg
Enemy destroyers spotted north. Signal the Koln and the destroyers to deal with them. We shall follow them at distance, but hold fire. We need to save ammunition in case the Royal Navy comes out.

12415.jpg
……………..grim……….wolf..?

s6YBPIp.png

KOsez9r.png

Those big blue stripped fields are enemy known minefields. We can’t enter them, the enemy seemingly can but otherwise they won’t blow your ships up.

17257.jpg
Spotting report: two enemy light cruisers due South.

PnnC2sp.png

11403.jpg
Light cruisers? Between the mine-fields and the coast? They can’t be reinforcement, not so soon.

12415.jpg
………….space…………..

11403.jpg
Ignore the prattling of this imbecile. Full speed ahead and engage them. Our big-guns will make short work of them.

We sink the first one of them but the second escapes, in part due to my prudence, in part in an effort to save ammo.

T5yggvt.png

11403.jpg
Let that cruiser be. At this point we want it to signal our presence to the Royal navy. Commence patrol south of the submarine line, we need to catch any incoming counter-attack before they reach the High Seas Fleet

12415.jpg
………..cop…….?

SMS Helgoland, Grosseadmiral’s Flagship. 17:50

:rpgcodex:Admiral, it’s been six hours since we’ve last spotted an enemy ship and our Destroyers are starting to report shortages of fuel. Shall I signal for return to port?

15522.jpg
Hum, so it seems that today will not be Der Tag. I guess I half-expected this. One thing is certain though, the British tabloid will have the Royal Navy’s Admiral’s head for this. Their coast severely bombed, several light ships sunk in view of the coast and the mighty descendants of Nelson don’t retaliate? This will be a great boost for our people at home. Very well, signal to the fleet for return home.

:rpgcodex:Yes sir.

15522.jpg
Oh, by the way…didn’t you find it strange that we were receiving reports from SMS Derfflinger and not SMS Seydlitz?

:rpgcodex:I’m sure Kalin’s flagship wireless got knocked out during the engagement, it happens frequently.

15522.jpg
Hum…. From a few shore batteries and light cruisers? Unlucky wouldn’t you say? Bah, I’m sure I’m imagining things. Patrolling the North Sea does that to you.

In Steam and Iron, during the night light forces can sometimes lose contact with their formation and start wandering around. In fact this had happened to the cruiser screen of the HSF during the night of the approach to the coast to no consequence. But on the way back….

Aboard the DD G170, 01:50

:happytrollboy:Azira’s a jolly good fellow, Azira’s a jolly good fellow, Azira’s a jolly good feeeelloooooooooow! Which nobody can deny!

:greatjob: Blood and Thunder!

:codexisfor:Victory at sea!

:troll:Dem limey’s are all cowering-like from us!

:martini:More Schnapps!

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

:bunkertime:What’s that?

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

gMdXFLE.png

SPLASH

TQOS6Gg.png

:deadtroll:Blimey, that’s the whole bloody royal navy shooting at us!
:xSignal the fleet, we’ve got trouble ahead!

9BHgPp8.png

Yep, that little destroyer you can see there in the middle of the screen just stumbled upon a whole bunch British ships.

15522.jpg
Perfect, we’ve got them trapped! Light cruisers and destroyers forward for torpedo attack, we shall follow right behind them. Signal for the BCS to head east, we can cut them off!

w0fYYQj.png

zPQMkmE.png

22873.jpg
The sea shall claim its own children and the sea shall spare none of its interlopers. Ftaghn.

15322.jpg
This is madness, we’re running blind into danger…

14228.jpg
Exciting, n’est-ce pas?

vwgdWCs.png

ENvKo0V.png

11403.jpg
Commence attack manoeuvres. I’ll show them what a real commander can do.

12415.jpg
……….titan………?

KETpcjd.png

qOXeibQ.png

2337.jpg
Keep zigzagging men, we can’t afford to take torpedoes so far from home. Pah, are there only two battle-cruisers? Impossible…

DJxBj25.png

15522.jpg
I’ve got you know…

C8DpXdg.png

15322.jpg
Signore, we need to be careful. Those are probably just the advanced forces of the enemy.

15522.jpg
You are right, this is already a great victory. Signal for the Light Cruisers to finish off anything that is still moving. We’ll head south and keep our distances in case more comes up.

Half a dozen torpedoes, numerous high-caliber shells, those two battle-cruisers are dead.

BaF2LW5.png

And then, at 3:30, the guns fall silent, it’s all over.

PdfOnrM.png

15522.jpg
Signal for the destroyers to start picking up the survivors. We will wait until dawn in case anything else comes up then head to port.

2337.jpg
A toast for victory!

12415.jpg
……..bonaz……….?

LKbgPd7.png

So there really were only two Battle Cruisers out there. Now hold your horses there, those were ‘only’ the two oldest British BC, the Invincible and Inflexible. They would have been withdrawn from the British OOB anyways quite soon to go and hunt for the Scharnhorst and Co, so I guess in this time-line Admiral Spee survives? Can I haz his ships game, pretty please?

A decent victory for sure, but nothing decisive yet! Do we:

A Keep up the tempo of fleet sorties, we must push now!
B Wait for the new year, we have several ships in need of refit and our first Konig Class are right around the corner!

We should keep up the pressure unless delaying the refit will prevent us from massing the fleet.
