This is, I think, an issue with OSR and smaller P&P RPGs in general (which nowadays is probably most of them). The communities are small, and somewhat particularly prone to doing things that cause gossip. Which, of course, can get in the way of it producing good games.

How could this guy turn out to be a colossal douchebag?
Who is this punk?

He's a reasonably popular figure in the OSR space. Visual artist, designer of several very popular OSR RPG products, including a megadungeon, a city construction toolkit and a weird fantasy setting.

He also swings between being a sane guy in some interviews and a good RPG designer in general, to being a self-absorbed, arrogant and self-important prick, who has disappeared so far up his own rear end, it's not even funny.

I love me some DCC, love me some DCC somethin' fierce.
I did some of the playtesting for MCC as well.

I don't use DCC as a ruleset because, despite the mountains of delicious flavor and great ideas, screw thumbing through pages of tables for spell effects, miscasts and trouble.

However, if I have to actually run a dungeon, I ALWAYS turn to DCC because they have, in my opinion, the absolute BEST modules on the market, ever, including old D&D stuff. I've never seen any adventure brimming with as much ideas, quirkiness and pure swords and sorcery weirdness and coolness.

If you're not using the Crawlers Companion app to look up tables and rules in play then you're doing it wrong.

I really wished those sjw would go spoil someone else's hobby. I mean, there is little enough left of pencil and paper games as it is...

I don't even know who to believe or sympathize with anymore. Zak is obviously a massive cunt, but his girlfriend seems to be one as well. It's like a lose-lose situation.

I don't sympathize with anyone, I just want this shit to be kept out of my hobby. I had a few, quite small interactions with Zak, when he got pissed at the Codex for making fun of him for being a "pornstar". I think the guy is plainly wrong to think this shit hasn't affected him for the worse.

But what does this have to do with his books? I own his book Vornheim. It is a really good supplement. It has lots of interesting adventure ideas, even if I wouldn't use some of the rules suggested there. Despite the name of his blog, there is nothing particularly pornographic in his work (that I've read at least).

So, it pisses me off that people are trying to censor him. Someone might accuse me of being hypocritical here. I've mentioned a few times on this site that I am not against censure. And I am not. I understand that back in december, for instance, a batch of RPG books about using menstrual blood for magic (or something similar) was burned in a warehouse before it was shipped because of a disgruntled employee. Without knowing the specific content of the books, it is hard for me to say if this was justified, but my initial thoughts are the yes, it was. RPGs are suffused enough with esoteric mystical crap without needing to bring this spirit painting ship over to it. So, while it is completely feasible that I am wrong about this, my thoughts is that whoever burned those books did the hobby a favour.

But I think that censoring Zak should piss off anyone who is genuinely interested in the hobby itself. Whether you believe people should never be censored or not, it is particularly stupid to censor something not for its own content; for I understand Zak's work to be less controversial among the people shunning him that it would be to me, but for his actions. Especially when this is done not based on anything resembling evidence of wrongdoing on his part, but just hearsay.

I'm not saying his work is bad. I'm just saying I could very easily live without it as there's plenty of good DIY content around.

I'm going to DM an OSR-based (heavily modified) and I'll begin recruiting players to play on roll20 (text only). If anyone is interested, let me know. I'll probably start a new thread when I'm ready.

Finally, I would love a text only game on roll20 or discord. Every single game on their is at least voice based, if not video based. Could you PM me here when you are ready to set it up?

I'm currently playing a character made with OSR Guardians. It's dystopian 1983. Most Supers are dead, and I have to fight mechs from SWON and Wizards casting DnD spells. Conan showed up, but he's just a stoner living in some kid's basement.

Good stuff.

Thanks for the interest, my dudes!

To be more precise about the game, the system I intend to use is based on DCC RPG (which is based on old D&D) but I incorporated a few of my ideas, which are open to discussion with the players. I intend to play Saturdays (or Sundays, depending on the week) for 3 or 4 hours per session. Due to the episodic feel of sessions they are not obligatory, so you don't HAVE to play every time there's a session.

Character creation in particular is a little creative in that I used stuff from Broken Wheel to generate those level-0 dudes you start with*. I can only wish to approach the whimsical and episodical feel of DCC adventures, but I'll try. Everyone interested will be sent a group PM to set things up and then we can move to discord and roll20 to play. Feel free to share your thoughts!

* In DCC RPG you start playing with a group of level-0 bozos who must survive a "funnel" adventure to become actual level-1 characters.

Episodic as in West Marches style ? That would be ballers.

All text based like in chat, or forum style ?

Also, what would be your time schedule, because I see you are from Brasil.

1) Yes, the funnel adventure for level-0 would be more straightforward with clear goals to make the funnel work, but the normal sessions would be West Marches style.

2) Text-based here means in chat style in discord for the role play parts (maps, decisions and slower stuff) and a bit on roll20 for the action parts. No voice-based because I'm Brazilian and it's too much of a hassle to talk instead of write. I can write and improvise as needed reasonably fast, particularly for a Latino.

3) My original planning/suggestion is to play on Brazil early afternoon (1pm to 5pm top). That would be UTC-3, which means a bit later for Europeans and a bit earlier for Americans. This is all subject to how many players if each region want to play. I can even play an European session first and an American session afterwards.

Next week or the one after. I'll post a thread calling everyone from here and inviting more players to the Discord server. Since it's episodic, a dozen people can play.
