FICSIT - AN INTRODUCTION

Welcome to FICSIT Incorporated! A company specialised in the research, development and application of new technology and science, anything to find short-term solutions to long-term problems! As part of our brand-new Save The Day program, you’ll be sent to one of many alien planets in an effort to contribute to Project Assembly, a project I am legally bound to not tell you anything about for fear of our lives. And my job.

As an engineer and pioneer, you won’t only be constructing and automating the very factory that will contribute to Project Assembly, but also explore and exploit the planet and its inhabitants as you expand. Don’t worry, we’re super inclusive when it comes to alien lifeforms! We’ll even allow for pets, how cool is that!?
Just don’t tell R&D.

Below you can find the three main pillars of your mission! Time to get to work, and Stay Effective!*

*This motto is FICSIT Inc. property. Please do not use ironically.

CONSTRUCT

Satisfactory_Construct_SteamBanner.png

To achieve company milestones according to satisfaction we expect you to construct your FICSIT Inc. factory in such a way that it allows for easy expansion and complexion. Not only will buildings grow more complex over time, so will the parts they produce. Project Assembly isn’t your average high-school science project. We’re making history here! Go big or go home!* Of course, this requires both high-level and low-level power management, good luck getting to nuclear! We even support stuff like multi-floor warehouses so you can stack your buildings, and a whole bunch of navigational constructs like jump pads and walkways! Walkways are the best. They’re attached to the ground and everything.

*Employee will be expected to fund their own travel expenses

AUTOMATE

Satisfactory_Automate_SteamBanner.png

So you know how your FICSIT Inc. factory can be turned into this incredibly intricate maze of conveyor belts in every direction, merging, splitting, crossing each other above and below? Conveyor belts carry, after all, the life-blood of our company! Well, since you’ll be in a pretty big area you’re going to need outposts. To make your life easier, we’ve developed self-driving trucks and trains so you can set up your very own transport system between any point in your area!

EXPLORE & EXPLOIT

Satisfactory_Explore_SteamBanner.png

R&D hasn’t figured out how to clone materials yet, weirdly enough, so you’re going to have to go out and use our patented method of extraterrestrial pioneering! This means exploring to find more or new stuff to exploit, to help expand your FICSIT Inc. factory. You’re on an uncharted alien planet, so try to be careful, don’t go alone if you don’t have to, and use protection! Who knows what kind of organisms have made this place their home? Or who knows what awesome treasures you’ll find? Don’t worry, this is why we assigned you your very own FICSIT Inc. handler.

I wonder how they will make sure players can keep an overview of it all.
But if they manage that, it actually sounds interesting.

There seems to be some automatic pathing for belts to mitigate the frustration of building in 3D and buildings seems to just plop down but who knows to what degree, don't feel like messing around with placement for minutes or even seconds.

Yeah, that's also the part that annoys me most about Factorio. I'd love to have something like "just make a belt path from here to there FFS!"-button.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The question is: Can they make a game without tons of bugs that are conveniently presented as awesome/fun features?

I saw a couple of let's play this weekend and this game seems pretty solid, it has potential to sell well or even surpass Factorio number of units sold.

I guess that a good amount of factorio players will eventually want to play this, and any player that disliked/shuned Factorio for being 2D will be attracted to it as well.

The only question is how the "Epic Store exclusive" thing is going to affect the sales.

At least in terms of Brazil, the Epic Store doesn't have a local form of payment (+ its listed in dollars, not in Reais)... so, even if brazillians would be willing to install the Epic Spyware Launcher, their means of buying is very limited. And probably this is a issue that isn't limited to Brazil though.

Said that, considering players boycotting Epic Launcher + Countries with limited buying options will hurt sales, although they are probably still going to sell a lot, so they might make a lot of cash from it anyway.

If you have a good game, people will play it.
Doesn't matter if it is Steam exclusive, Epic exclusive, or hell, even Windows Store exclusive (just be thankful there are no great games exclusive to that PoS).
Those with such a passionate feeling about a single store that they won't use it will always be a minority.

What does this have over Factorio other than graphics?
If anything, a lot about it seems simpler.

According to a dev there's no terraforming, landscaping, weather or pollution (also no vr mode, in case you care).

I see nothing about turrets or any such thing. There's some hostile wildlife and like 3 weapons or so (all crappy), but no real threat. Doesn't seem like it has any defense considerations beyond maybe some walls or something.
Not sure if you can do stuff like create calculators or videos with lamps or something like you can do in Factorio.

So is it just "get some resources to research new stuff to get more resources to research new stuff, end."?

I've done enough of that in Factorio already.

What is the hook to keep you playing? It looks like they're just taking advantage of Factorio's popularity (and partially fortresscraft, I guess) to make some cash with a game that doesn't have anything to offer other than getting through the unlock-tree but is in 3d.

Also bothered by the motion blur, and kind of weird lighting I'm seeing in the vids. Doesn't look like it can be disabled specifically in the options menu. Wish devs would stop with that shit.

I guess I can't blame them exactly, Factorio devs should probably have moved on and made their own 3d version instead of endlessly rebalancing the science-recipes and whatnot, but damn. Now someone else is swooping in.

I'll retract my statements if this turns out to have some real stuff going for it, but right now I'm not seeing it. 3d might also complicate the performance situation if you want to build megabases (if there's even a point in doing that).

Would have liked to play a better, 3d Factorio though...

There is a mod that lets you draw belts, will automatically use underground belts if you draw over an existing belt, splitter if you make a certain motion etc.

Also... You can just use bots. It's only an issue early on. A "build to" option probably doesn't work because of your limited build-area around the char if you're building by yourself.

Played it for a bit, it's uh, tedious.

First the basic resources you need in the beginning are way too spread out, because you have to do it by hand, and having to run 400m because you need one copper is shit. And the building is just not satisfying to me, it just doesn't look as nice as Factorio, where you can get everything very neat very simple. I can't get stuff nice and even and it bothers the fuck out of me. Also the buildings look way to samey.

But that's basically the problem I have with most games that are 3d fp/tp. Everything just feels tedious. Clicking so my dude walks over and loots a chest is a 100 times better than having to manually walk over and look at the goddamn chest and press use.

Heh. Only just added a search bar, but supports Early Access titles already.

Also when I visit that link it initially just gives me a screen saying "This game contains mature content recommended only for ages 0+"

in a Q&A in their youtube channel they say it will be around march 19 of the next year...

and since its not finished yet, it might still be in a "early access" stage or just a few months after they hit 1.0 and if that's the case, this whole 1 year exclusive might not have a big impact for those that only buy games when finished + patched.
