Can somebody tell how the character system is?

There are 3 classes to chose from; fighter, archer and mage. Each class has a skilltree like this:

CEVqojG.png

Companions have their own skilltrees.

Then you have attributeswhere you can spend 3 ponts per level that determine your stats:

The character system is pretty limited - for each class there are 3 levels of spells/abilities and associated bonuses across 3 branches - you have to unlock a certain number of skills/bonuses to take abilities from a higher level. You also get 3 points to distribute to stats on level up. Characters are represented by static images and changes in equipment, injuries etc are not represented by any changes to these images.

There are no dialog options but characters talk to each other while you're wandering around and at campfires, set points etc.

Graphics and atmosphere are decent. Combat is turn-based but pretty limited in scope with most powerful abilities on a cool down and there are also limited power points. M&M X combat/character options are definitely better.

Gameplay other than combat is grid based dungeon crawling with lots of secrets, puzzles, loot etc.

So far I'd rate it as a decent title - probably around the 7-8/10 depending on whether the combat gets more interesting.

hmm even the char system seems to be to much copied from BT4 with its lack of options and only combat skills. Attributes at least look ok.
Maybe if on a steam sale, just too much other good stuff around/left for me to play by now.

GameSpot 8/10:

Operencia tells a wonderful story derived from Central European folklore, mythology, and history, and it does so with unwavering confidence in its makeup. Companion characters are funny, and the banter between them makes for a fun experience that's not without its heartfelt moments. In terms of combat, the strategizing is so engaging that you'll likely end up charging rat warriors headfirst instead of hopelessly attempting to avoid bumping into them. Best of all, though, this world is so stunning that you'll just look at the trees, the water, the rocks--everything. It’s a shame that some of the puzzle solutions are needlessly frustrating and present significant obstacles in getting through the story, but aside from that Operencia provides a truly special experience.

Operencia transports you somewhere far, far away, and once you get there, you'll probably want to stay a while.
TheXboxHub 4/5:

Operencia: The Stolen Sun on Xbox One is gorgeous as well; graphically impressive and a consistent joy to look at. The textures are intricate and deep, the lighting is wonderful, and it uses Unreal Engine 4 to great effect. I was in awe at some of the environments from the dripping wet walls of a sunken castle, the pulsating mushrooms of an infinite tree, to the moonlight piercing through stone windows. Operencia never disappoints when it comes to visuals, and it never slackens off in the audio department either. The music is wildly original and sets the mood for many of the areas and fights in the game.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun is wildly ambitious for Zen Studios and for their first RPG it is incredibly impressive. It’s filled with passion and the team clearly love the genre. It does not get everything right, but if this is evidence of more to come, I can’t wait to see what the studio can do next.

Video Chums 8.6/10:

Although I absolutely loved my time with Operencia, it does have a couple of problems. The most notable of which is that some of the puzzles are abstruse to the point where you'll aimlessly pace around a dungeon for an extra hour or so while wondering what to do. Once, I had to enter a false wall in an isolated corner of a dungeon to retrieve a key item in order to progress. Other times, you'll need to search for glowing symbols on posts, discover hidden buttons next to other buttons that hurt you when you touch them, and figure out which order to activate certain switches. It can be frustrating stuff for sure. My only other complaint is that the menus can be quite cumbersome. Sometimes, I'd level up and not allot the earned points because I didn't feel like fumbling around in the menus. Even in battle, familiarizing yourself with what each skill specifically does takes a while due to the lengthy explanation of each.

Hard pass.
It is not! MMX is a lot worst than this game. Later battles do become more challenging and you need to use some tactics to beat them. Later on even normal mobs do put up a fight and could be challenging if you are not conservative about the mana spend.

It is not as much stale as the pic shows, every companion does have different skill threes while the stats does affect different shit. rashiakas 's fighter build is pretty garbage because he dumped everything on str. I will be surprised if he does anything in combat. You could even go for Intel build for a fighter, still you will do need a decent amount of str for landing a hit. Also the game is a lot more fun that BT4 and MMX.

It is a classical dungeon crawler,it is not made for modern cucks that want to fuck everything and have different dialogue options. It is a good pick for fans of old blobbers.

The game does have its charms. I've only reached the third zone/dungeon so far so take it with a grain of salt, but to me it feels like a more simplistic version of BT4. It is also more linear and the voice-acting is sub-par. Graphics are okay, a bit on the cartoony side in terms of textures/materials. It also feels far less repetitive than BT4 and the save system isn't as retarded, although it is restricted here too.

I woudn't call it more simplistic,it is more of that they focused on the important parts like combat and exploration in a good levels. I do strongly disagree with the VA being not good,i personally like it a lot,it could be Slav thing tho.

It sounds cringe-worthy to me. The story is also laughable. Seemed to be written by a 6-years-old. Even the game mocks itself sometimes, noting how it sounds like a bad joke. Hard to take seriously. Whatever, I'm not playing for the story. The game's still fun though, I'll definitely complete it.

watched this 19 minute review and it didn't really pique my interest. will never understand why they keep making these games dumber and dumber. the guy who reviewed it is a total normie who doesn't usually play these games so the fact that even he found it simplistic says a lot (though he does recommend it in the end):

I'll probably give the game a try. Does it have gamepad support on PC? Cos the game is also on consoles.

I am at the copper forest and it is painful at best, not because hard battles or hard puzzles. But because every TB developers is the same fag that doesn't play fucking TB games and decides to clutter the combat with his stupid animation. I have no idea what is with those people not implementing animation/enemy turn skip.

Why are you so butthurt mate? Your warrior build was bad, maybe you could still pump up some agility. Also the middle skill tree is very potent.

The border of the imaginary
Bros, tried this game and posted my thoughts on the news page. Re-posting here:

I "tried" this game. This game is shit don't bother.

Pros:
semi-decent Puzzles and a lot of them, if you into that. (may change later)

Cons:
Epic store
Over priced
Exploration is Real Time: enemies and you move in the map real time. In special zones (like underwater), hazard/resource meter (like oxygen) depletes/fills in real time. So not really a blobber
LONG animations. wtf is this shit.
Visual Art style is WoW shit. So the UE4 engine and crisp visuals mean nothing much.
Character progression is very simple. Only 6 active skill slots and 3 to 4 passive skill slots.
Fully voiced, with annoying amateurish voices for every damn line of dialogue/taunt.
max party of 4 people.
UI issues. if you keep the onscreen controls on, you cannot see the targeting reticule which makes interaction with environmental elements hell. Looks to em like it was phoned in at the last stage.

No wonder they shilled and went the Epic route; while it may look impressive to a popamoler; a semi-enthusiast of blobbers will notice all its deficiencies quite easily after playing for a bit.

No wonder weaboo kawaii desu desu blobbers are more hit with the market nowadays. For one they are real blobbers with Turn based exploration and combat. For another they have semi-decent to great combat and character progression.

I would rather take animu cancer of Etrian Odyssey on citra and play a real blobber, over this money-grab whose development effort clearly went into voice actors and (detailed) WoW stylized designs over actual gameplay and character progression.

Once my animu tolerance meter is overloaded I will play another run of RTwP buggy Kingmaker and stay away from this piece of shit.

how do i process the fucking copper? where are the hints for the fucking dial machine? i brute forced the first combination 2-3-5, but must have missed a step when brute forcing the second time. i don't have the patience to do it again and the map is explored. i have no idea where to look for any hints.

EDIT: Never mind, the solution is to:
watch the steam

The thing that angers me about these mediocre "budget blobbers" from the West is that fans will play these and go, "FUCK THE GENRE IS DEAD" and completely ignore the great Wiz-clones from japan that have trickled out, like the Elminage games or The Dark Spire or Stranger of Sword City, etc.

You'll have people making up one reason after another as to why they will NEVER!!!! PLAY THAT TRASH!!! and then go right ahead and shill for some shit-tastic "blobber" that has simpler mechanics than handheld games.

Maybe if Japan moved on beyond copying Wizardry 1 for the 8 millionth time people would give more of a shit. The genre moved beyond Wiz 1, waaaay beyond.

Maybe if Japan moved on beyond copying Wizardry 1 for the 8 millionth time people would give more of a shit. The genre moved beyond Wiz 1, waaaay beyond.

Just clarifying some fallacies about Japanese blobbers:

Fallacy 1 - "They only have one dungeon like Wizardry 1" - Nearly all over the last ten years have multiple dungeons, sometimes linking one dungeon to another or other fancy approaches. The Dark Spire is the only one in fairly recent times that I can think of which is only one dungeon (maybe some of the PS1/2 Wizardries?), and even then it is still slightly different from Wizardry 1 in that it goes both directions (although only 1 floor in the opposite) from the ground level. It is fair to say that they often revolve around a hub and radiate out in different directions from that location, but not always. The original Phantasy Star actually had multiple dungeons on multiple worlds. Elminage introduces other elements like timed water areas as well, which adds a different take to the original Wizardry.
Fallacy 2 - "They don't tell a story" - All the games by Experience Inc., Atlas Persona are all story heavy, Elminage Gothic is story driven. The revised Etrian Odysseys 1 and 2 were made even more story heavy then the original. Noting there is a line of debate as to whether being driven by story heavily in these kinds of games is good from a play perspective anyway.
Fallacy 3 - "They don't have multiple endings / choice and consequence" - The Persona series and Stranger of Sword City has multiple endings and factions to align to. Operations Abyss, Elminage Gothic and Original have significant content post the ending, but little C&C.
Fallacy 4 - "Don't have much class variety" - Elminage has more classes than Wizardry 6-8 and have introduced mechanics well beyond those of the later Wizardry games. Most have introduced a range of classes that aren't available in any of the original such as a Summoner, Herbalist/tea-maker, various card drawer "Gambler" classes, hexer/status holders/arcanists (seen in Etrian odyssey), "repeat turn" classes, enemy specialist classes etc. whilst also picking up similar kinds of classes to those latter games. Note I am not arguing that the introduction of all of these classes has been for the better, but in general there has been reasonable concern applied to the balance of said classes to force the player to carefully consider party composition.
Fallacy 5 - "Don't have much race variety" - some only stock the standard races or (depending on the case) not at all, but others like the Elminage series have more than any traditional Wizardry game with more associated impact of the choice (eg. Dragonborns taking an exp penalty on levelling up). Some do reduce the number of classes available per race (eg. Class of Heroes).
Fallacy 6 - "They are all high fantasy settings" - some still are high fantasy settings but many others are either futuristic or modern day - interdimensional world style as well. Same critical eye could equally be cast over Western blobbers,

I am not claiming they are perfect and that they have covered all areas that Western Blobbers went to (the openess of the early Might and Magic is an area that they have gone towards less, but TBF Western blobbers also haven't really returned to that either), but they have definitely evolved since Wizardry 1.

Generally speaking:

Japanese blobber = mechanically complex and full of features and new mechanics.

Western blobber (except Grimoire) = usually goes for style over substance, and features very simplistic mechanics and limited exploration.

The western blobber generally features:

- less complex itemization
- less races or sub-races
- less classes or lesser class variety
- less statistics and less statistically-important gameplay
- less attributes and skills
- less levels, areas and maps
- less new mechanics

(for example Elminage introduced a fantastic crafting and enchantment system, and being able to recruit summons from the enemy pool in order to aid you in battle; they also introduced the ability of combining captured monsters in order to create new ones, and also introduced unique skills for the many different classes, unique skills for the different races and also a pool of generic skills that allow non-class related abilities and manuevers; among even more features that include multiple additions to the traditional spell systems like as well the introduction of special bosses inside dungeons that chase after you in real-time)

Anyone who isn't trying to troll can see that a game like Operencia, or the recent StarCrawlers, can't compete with the better japanese blobbers. To say that a game like this one is more evolved is laughable.

EDIT: Also I'm not trying to say that a japanese blobber is automatically good either, for example the most recent one I played Mary Skelter was absolute animu garbage that made me ashamed to have even played it. Of course there are many bad blobbers out of japan, it just so happens that there are also some great ones that are arguably genre-defining, that have no competition from the west, and these games don't get the respect they deserve because MUH CODEX KOOL CRED or flat-out untrue misconceptions like the shit Sinatar spouted.
