Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
When I was a lad we spent money on things and valued them. That meant I made a point of finishing every game I owned. Every one. Even Green Beret, Target Renegade, and Rampage on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Nowadays you entitled kids would probably stop ficking a pornstar mid fuck if you got a text. And if you're not a kid (OP) I suggest you take up fishing.

RPGs are too long. There I fucking said it.

You could take any RPG over 30 hours long, cut it in half, and it would result in a better game.
If that is true then they are not good. Because something good you would want to do longer. And that happens, look at online games. The reality is that most non-MMO's are not very good. There are some exceptions though.

That's because MMOs/multiplayer tap into innate hunger for social interaction/community and humanity's competitive instincts -- asocial nerds rarely realize it, but these hungers/instincts are usually stronger in them than jocks and Type A personalities. Even single player RPGs launches are spurred by the fact that everyone wants to have the same experience as everyone else and talk about it, and they're willing to pay an additional $40 for it.

A single player RPG is being carried solely by the interest it nurtures in its world and gameplay, which is a hard sell if you've experienced a lot and grown tepid on the hobby.

That implies mainstream audiences finish games to begin with.

Skyrim - 31% completion
The Witcher 3 - 27% completion
New Vegas - 20% completion
Deadfire - 20% completion
Pathfinder: Kingmaker - 5% completion

Mainstream audiences like the idea of 100 hour RPGs, but the vast majority will give up after 20 hours or so.

I finish every game I actually like, which is the majority of RPGs I play. I use to think if you didn't finish a game, you didn't like it much. However the torrential downpour of games being released and people being ADHD as fuck in the internet age, I bet that has more to do with it.

Hm. The RPGs I've finished are a minority of those I've played, for sure. But I don't find it to be truer now than in the 90s. Sometimes seems that way, but I think it's because the scale is so much greater. If I step back from the disappointment and do a little napkin math, it seems proportionally the same.

It's actually no problem.

It's probabbly OP has his own taste and pretty niche taste at that, so he get turned off real quick.

No problem. OP just need to install even more games and play it/abandon it.

The key is actually playing, not leaving it untouched on your folder.

At least 2 hours before abandon it.

I guarantee after 100 games get that treatment OP will surely know his own taste.

Why am I getting bullied for admitting I can't finish RPGs. I tried to be open and honest with you guys in the hope that you might remedy my situation but instead you just tore me down

:negative:

The excuse of not enough time doesn't hold water! Play Grimoire! You will never stop and will ignore all CRPGs from this point forward. Programmed by a hulking 53 year old superhuman with godlike writing skills, this game was promoted as the greatest CRPG to ever hit the market. AND IT DELIVERED. It is so good that it was stated when it was released on Steam that the game would NEVER drop below it's initial 34.99 price point. IT IS THAT GOOD. PLAY IT NOW!

Where did you get these numbers? I'd be interested to know DOS 2 completion rate. I'm convinced the vast amount of casuals that played it on both PC and consoles haven't even progressed an hour into it.

30 hours is what I consider decent length for RPG. That's even replayable provided it's good enough. It's them fucking 50-100 hour ones that I can't be arsed to do anymore. Divinity OS, fuck you! Shit, I was rushing that game in last third and still ended up with 90+ hours.

What? I've just finished it in only 47 and it was a slog**. Those fighting animations are a murder and you can't even speed that up in DosEE.

OP, there's a good solution, you just need to lie more. You sound ashamed of it, c'mon, shame is overrated and unnecessary for a healthy and productive life.

** On a casual difficulty liberally lockpicking each and every door/chest and pickpocketing everyone.

finishing my first playthrough of elminage: gothic took me about 160 hours or so!

beating the 20 floors of the final dungeon, Ibag's Tower, is one of the best RPG accomplishments I've ever had.

I don't even consider playing games that take less than 100 hours unless it's part of a series.
You know you don't have to play the entire thing in one sitting, right?

Too much of a good thing, in all sectors. Try taking some time off from ALL games. Wait a few weeks or even months, then come back and choose 1 RPG game to play, and only 1. You'll devour that game like a thirsty man who's found a tiny mud hole full of water.

That or you'll turn away from it then as well. If that happens, your gaming addiction may have reached cold turkey status. If that happens, I suggest large quantities of booze, whores, and happy pills.

It's a Jap game, of course you'll be grinding for hours.

It's basically modern Wizardry 5
