TBH 2E AD&D is really its own unique and peculiar beast, its why although I know lots of people love 3E I personally didn't pay much attention to it (D&D) after the huge catalogue of 2E stuff was abandoned.
AD&D 2nd Edition is David Zeb Cook's reorganization and rationalization of AD&D 1st Edition, to give it a clarity and consistency that had been lacking.

Perhaps you're thinking of the mass of optional material released over the decade following the AD&D 2nd Edition core rulebooks, but you would have been hard-pressed to find two DMs who used the same modifications to the core rules.

Which is what matters. The PS1 was made by its library, not its hardware.

Well, I doubt the story will be related to BG 1 and 2 Bhaalspawn-wise.
Baldurs Gate is a big city, could be a setting for anything.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...vinity-studio-larian-is-making-baldurs-gate-3

But we do now know this about the setting: "The events from Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 have passed," Vincke said. "Stuff has happened in the world." And the newly announced - "not by coincidence" - Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Descent into Avernus, will directly precede Baldur's Gate 3. "That is a new official chapter in the history of Forgotten Realms and we're going to be there."

Vincke suggests the game will be heavily systems-driven and Larian will be creating its own D&D-inspired ruleset. "We'll stay true to our roots, so we'll give players lots of systems and lots of agency to use these systems and try to accomplish what you need to on your personal adventure and your party's adventure. That's not going to change; that's the core of what we're doing. But then there will be an interpretation of D&D, because if you port the core rules—we tried it!—to a videogame, it doesn't work."

Wow, this sounds godawful. Real disappointed in the Swen.

What is the symbol on the guy's chest? It's neither Tempus, nor Helm.
I wonder if it's from new edition of Forgotten Realms (if there's such a thing) or something Larian's home-made?

I didnt know those tentacled fucks could fly. Also, that bit about interpreting the rules just reads like "we want more exploding barrels".

Source? This isn't on Eurogamer. Or did they edit that out?

Flaming fist? It has in the first game and it is some faction from the city.

This article: https://www.pcgamesn.com/baldurs-gate-3/dungeons-and-dragons-fifth-edition says something different.

It sounds like the game, however, will feature just enough little tweaks to draw the best out of the material for its PC players. Vincke said the creators approached the project by working out “the rulesets very meticulously and then seeing what worked and what didn’t work. For the things that didn’t work, because it is a videogame, and D&D was made for playing as a tabletop game, we came up with solutions”.

So not made by Black Isle, none of the old Black Isle writers on it, not 2nd Edition (and not even 5th Edition because apparently, it doesn't work in video games), takes place after the Bhaalspawn Saga . . . so what, exactly, makes this the third chapter of Baldur's Gate? It apparently bears no similarities to the previous two games except that there are NPCs and this game will be playable on a computer. Am I missing something? Because what the fuck is going on here?
