I havent played it yet but yeah, MEA's concept is delicious. Go to a fresh new galaxy. see glorious places full of interesting people. Kill them with abandon.

Pity their writings suck ass. It's the definite hardon-killer aspect of the entire series for me.

The first three had that cheesy bad dialogue Bioware has always had IMO, but man Andromeda is a whole different bag. Just a total clusterfuck of poor dialog, plotting and pacing. They expect you to care about people and events they didn't develop well at all, and everything sounds like a Satuday morning cartoon writer's idea of epic. Throw in boring MMO quest design where you're just waddling to marks on the map and pressing 'E' and it's just super gross, honestly. If you thought the first three were bad stay FAR away.

Played and finished Legend of Kyrandia 3 - Malcolm's Revenge, and all I have to say is I wish I hadn't.

This really was pretty freaking bad. It might have been funny, and it might have had a few good ideas, but holy shit, it had so much pointless running back and forth, fetch quests, repetitive annoyances (that you have to go through multiple times) and totally ass-backwards moon logic that I was constantly on the brink of ragequit. It even has a patented annoying adventure game maze that made an appearance TWICE during the game.

The people who designed and approved this must have been drunk.

How did you like the fact that during Chapter 1 (Escape from Kyrandia) that there were six different escape routes available, and no way to discern for which one your actions were contributing towards?

Also congrats on being crowned Tic-Tac-Toe champion of Kyrandia. ;)

I'm kind of a Shadowrun-drought, so I (re)bought myself a game, that always came close in spirit for me: GTA Vice City. The graphics look like 2002, but the gameplay is still fun, the writing is strong and there's no need for oversimulation the world. Just you, the missions and the coolness of the scenario. Still hoping for Vice City 2 or at least a Cyberpunkgame set in the 80ies with the aesthetics of Miami Vice.

Finished Blood & Truth on PSVR last night. The shooting and reloading mechanics are great and the game will make you feel like John Wick. Interaction with objects feels natural, as well as lockpicking, crawling through vents or hanging from monkey bars. Unfortunately there's no full locomotion and you can only move by picking predefined spots on the map and there is no backtracking. I often wished to explore some area in sight but the game didn't allow me. There's some freedom with choosing your own route and you can often strafe left and right. The running speed is way too slow, I imagine it's because some people get motion sick in VR. The game is pretty long and well paced with cutscenes and quieter moments to break the constant action. The story is meh, the dialogue is fine and well acted and I was invested in the characters. At some points during the stealth missions the game didn't let me progress unless I killed guards even tho I could've easily sneak past them. The enemy AI is really dumb too, they don't react when you take out their friends that are standing like 2 meters away with a silencer. Actually they don't really seem to react to noise either. The devs could've done some cool things like let us throw objects to distract enemies which would work great with move controllers. After beating the game all missions unlock so you can easily replay the ones you liked or showcase them to friends. There are also some challenges you can play through and the devs already said they will be adding more as well as the new game plus difficulty.

8/10

I came to this after the DLC dropped. While I do enjoy the fluidity of the movement and combat, I'm not satisfied with the rng mechanics. I would have much preferred to be able to choose my weapon type and upgrade what I see fit. As it is, the game has you spend your resources unlocking shit you may not want.

Still, the price of admission is enough to experience its great movement mechanics and pretty art.

Put in a few hours but the slow walking speed killed my interest in the word and writing. Here's to hoping Pathologic (2) doesn't see you move at a snail's pace

Avadon: Black Fortress.

Bought this on sale a while ago. I was looking for something new to play and fired it up. I'm about two hours in and really enjoying it.

Probably Vogel's weakest RPG, I got the second one free from Humble's Trove and ended up enjoying it much more than the first one for sure.

Sounds like I have something to look forward to. Have you played Avernum? Steam Reviews say it's what Avadon strives to be.

Yeah the Avernums are better in terms of better open world exploration instead of just linked areas, less balanced loot, more skills, a classless character system, et cetera. The original Exiles are even better with more skills, bigger parties and bigger battles also no pixel hunting for secrets.

Continuing with HoMM 3: The Shadow of Death and the Unholy Alliance campaign.

Having all the heroes from the previous campaigns reset their skills was a major bummer. Especially Gelu got shafted with no magic skills, Tactics or Logistics, but Learning and Intelligence instead, making him rather useless.

The maps are definitely more difficult than in previous campaigns.

Search for a Killer with Gelu was rather frustrating, with Gelu having no mobility, and the Necro towns spawning darkness.
You are supposed to invade via the underground, through a border gate, but that leaves your home area vulnerable from the sea, since the necros have access to shipyards. So since the underground is blocked from enemy attack I decided to invade by ship instead.
Nice strategic map, but lack of mobility is very frustrating. I came very close to restarting to get better skills.

Final Peace with Gem and Clancy was rather unbalanced. Rather weak enemies you can crush quickly, and then the final castle has a super stack of 87 Black Knights. And you can't use the block-the-portcullis dirty trick either since the hero has Expert Teleport. Disrupting Ray turned the tide in this very difficult battle. I'd rather try 20 times with different tactics, then play the wait-and-build game.

Secrets Revealed with Yog and Hack was supposed to be hard, but turned out be too easy, thanks to the two main heroes decimating their armies against lots of Black Knights and Cyclops Kings respectively, and then one of them appeared in the Tavern the next week. There's lots of gold and resources to be found, so I was able to build up two complete Strongholds even before I found the four caches of 50,000 gold each.

Agents of Vengeance was rather like Final Peace. Gem and Gelu are safe behind strong garrisons against rather weak enemies, and the garrison to the final castle is extremely strong with 100 Ghost Dragons supported by Liches and Vampires. Gelu was rather useless except to train Sharpshooters and lead diversity squads (since unlike Gem he has Leadership), while Gem with Logistics, Tactics and three magic skills did all the work.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
ALMOST done with Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. I’m not going for the Platinum Trophy, but I am going to finish the last few side quests and get every Digimon. I’m close to finishing both. I think that I have 210 out of 249 Digimon. The question is if I should play the sequel right away, or boot up Persona 5?

In the past two days, I finished Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich. Very silly in a fun way, with decent rtwp gameplay. I didn’t know super much about the game beforehand. I thought that it was a Diablo clone. Can’t really complain, though. I felt like you really had to thing how to use your heroes and how important the synergy of some powers really is.

The other game I finished is Xanadu Next. It sort of has that Ys feel, but it plays slower and a little less light hearted. It’s a fun action rpg that I can easily recommend. I’ve played this game before, so I knew most of the enemy weaknesses and all secrets. I still managed to get lost a few times.
This was closer to Diablo than Freedom Force, yet it’s not very Diablo like.
The fun of this game is to learn all the spells, weapon abilities and guardians you collect. Add to that decent exploration with a Falcom OST, and a decent story for a Japanese game.

Fallout New Vegas. It is not a very good game. Not sure if it is a good game at all, though I have to admit I've had fun visiting some locations and fighting various enemies, but this could also be simply because I've decided to finish this Obsidian game and see for myself how good it is, and have put aside all other games and other forms of entertainment (mostly).

So far I've played it for 18 hours.

Random thoughts:
- whilst Fallout 3 is "gray with an occasional shade of blue", FNV is basically "yellow and brown" - an improvement I admit...
- many major quests or choices are childish and "gamey" in the worst sense of the word, like the one involving some ghouls and their "journey" which was pretty cringey; Caesar comes across as far too gullible, can't believe he just offered me to do what he did, and just as I first met him - there was no "proving my loyalty" which should be expected to occur judging by all the fuss about Caesar and his infamous Legion;
- stealth and sneaking is extremely overpowered if you have the skill above 30;
- most characters are uninteresting and boring to be honest, ironically the Benny guy comes across as genuinely "alive";
- the wasteland is properly called as such: no exterior location is really interesting, it feels bland and uninspired, countless "invisible walls" don't help, though interiors are better; New Vegas, however, is just a couple of casinos and despite loads of people in them the city itself feels small and barren;
- on the plus side, major settlements (aside from New Vegas obviously) do feel alive and "lived in", they have a proper sense of scale: these include the NCR HQ and the Legion HQ primarily, though some smaller ones (belonging to some gangs) also aren't bad.
- explosives are fun to use, and they can be used strategically to cause great mayhem and damage.

Feels strange to say it, but the game really feels sort of "gamey". Even the capital city is based around games. And boring, most of the time.

Over the weekend I tried installing No Man's Sky and giving it another try. I've probably installed/uninstalled that game more than any other in memory. I really want to like it, for it to be fun. It's just shit. No matter how you try and assuage the gloom, it's just a barely assembled piece of gaming components. EVERYTHING you want to do in the game has hours of busy work assigned to it. Plus it's optimized for shit, looks like it has a permanent piss filter on the FOV, and the procedural generation nonsense is on fine display. No matter how many worlds you visit, you're gonna always get the same 3 or 4 combinations of wonky physics, lame aliens and garbage biomes.

I made it to Sunday before uninstalling it again. Don't think I'll bother any more. They can add all the base building and gimmicks they want. It's just more candy sprinkles on a big pile of snake doo-doo.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Finished Enclave, an xbox-era action (lite) rpg, which I first heard about it here.

The art style is good, with varied architecture, even if some maps are reused between the two campaigns (good and evil). Story is easy to follow but anytime it tries to explain the setting it's way too confusing. Melee combat is meh, too limited but archery is better with varied arrow types (normal, fire, bomb, sniper with zoom effect); there's also crossbows (with the latests being automatic). There's a character selection before each level, with each one having access to different weapons.
The game incentives to explore by hiding gold all over the level, which is used to buy your equipment before each level: I liked that system since it forces to choose what you're bringing depending on your preferences: do you want more potions or more arrows or a better weapon?
Levels are linear, with sometime alternate paths (but even then the intended way to play is to go down both paths to grab all the gold). Still they managed to feel open by having a lot of short paths that quickly end up in dead end (often with some gold).

I started lping Thief today, I kinda missed it back in the day and only played Thief: Deadly Shadows when it came out, which I really enjoyed. I know that most people hated it though, so I got the GOG today and I'm jumping into the classic to see what the fuss is all about. The thing I really like about it already (only played the first mission) is the hilarious guard dialogues. Killer Bears, they don't make them like they've used to.
