Squeenix Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade - now on Steam

As I thought, FFVII is too ambitious to give an actual, honest-to-God remake to. Midgar being the very first section, two disc and all, tells me they're going to cut corners like crazy and likely make a much more linear game that will be missing many areas in the original. Retards will defend this and say the stuff they do cut was pointless in the original game and it's fine most likely. If they don't then this game will take a decade to be fully released.

Combat looks awful. I had no idea if I was watching what was supposed to be a JRPG or Metal Gear Revengeance. It's setpiece porn to the max and the systems in place don't even look that fun to begin with. You auto attack stuff, then you go into a proper JRPG menu to cast a spell or something and repeat it all over? So you're smacking shit, the game freezes, killing all sense of momentum, and you select some random menu attack, it goes off and that's that. Terrible.

Music is shit and overly orchestral for its own good. Game developers/people in charge of music: if your soundtrack fades into the background and I don't even notice it anymore then your soundtrack sucks.

The only thing at this point that would save this game for me relies solely on whether or not they feature the NEANDERTHAL BRO MUSCLE GYM SQUAT CHALLENGE '97.

They seem to be putting extra summons into the game. If you preorder the 1st Class Edition, you receive Cactuar and Carbuncle summons (which are both FF 8 summons).

I think they will keep on offering different Materias as game DLCs. This time you don't find Alexander Materia after a convoluted treasure hunt, you receive him in a Loot Box packaged together with Tifa's Costa del Sol Bikini Set and Yuffie's Teen Idol Wallpaper.

A derelict.
Meh. I'd prefer a VI remake. It actually needs one.
dear god no, you know not what you wish for. The last time we got FFVI, it was this abomination

please let my favorite JRPG die in peace, Square Enix only knows how to perform necromancy and the shambling mass of flesh that comprises most of their 'remasters' is an aberration that is not meant for this world. put the monkey's paw down.

Why did Carbuncle turn white, stressed out too much?
Nutritional deficiency. Nomura put it on a strictly vegan diet.

So the first part consists only of Midgar and it has 2 Blu-Ray discs worth of content? It's going to be one huge game once all parts have been released. Or more likely a collection of separate games dealing with same characters and story, much like FFXIII, FFXIII-2 and FFXIII-3.

And as we all suspected, each part will be released as a full 60 $ title. And with a bunch of DLCs to boot.

However, ironically, this is exactly what the fans wanted Square to do. For years the fans urged Square to make FFVII Remake and amass a fortune while doing so. That was literally the fanbase's pitch for the remake: "You're going to make so much money! Everyone will buy it many times over!". So now they have done exactly what the fans wanted.

Don't count on it, most of it is probably the *I shudder to think of a number* hours of uncompressed 4k cutscenes.

Grab the Codex by the pussy Pathfinder: Wrath
Aerith is a character who is trying to appear cheerful and lively in front of others, but from the get-go she is heavily burdened by her unique heritage. At her core, she is a profoundly sad and tragic character. By befriending Cloud and others, she is struggling to live a life of a normal young woman, if only for a short while. She even tries to have a boyfriend, ever though deep down she knows it will never work. She knows that she is not like others, but she is so hard trying to be. Yet she also knows that she has a unique, predetermined destiny. In a way, she is forced to follow a predetermined path that has been laid in front of her. She can hear the whispers of the Ancients and they guide her throughout her journey. I'm always struck by the fact how lonely she must have felt. Lifestream brings her news of the death of her step mother's husband long before the courier reaches Midgar. She has learned to hide this side of herself because other people cannot understand or accept her abilities. She knows she is the only one who can stop Jenova from corrupting the entire Lifestream. She has foreseen her own death. Somehow she has to hide all this inside her. Just be cheerful. Smile. Laugh. Maybe then she can be just an ordinary young woman. Just like everyone else.

You're not describing Aerith as portrayed in the original FFVII but as a retrospective impression colored by later contemplations and subsequent FFVII media, maybe even fan fiction. I agree that she was never a fragile character, but she was absolutely cheerful in the first game, which made her serve as an excellent foil to the brooding Cloud. Her constant optimism while not coming off as saccharine makes her the character that is fondly remembered today.

No I'm sure the fanbase is annoyed about having to pay for multiple parts of a 20 year old game. And if it's true the first part is only Midgar, then there will probably be more than 3 parts to the game unless they cut a shitload of content. Imagine paying $200+ for a 20 year old game, and they're selling summon DLC for it. It's absurd. It's also going to probably take 10 years before all the parts are released.

Like people have said before, the combat's going to be button mashing crap. The ATB on your party members fills up slowly, so there is little incentive to switch between party members because you can just fill the ATB 10-20 times before theirs fills up once. Aeris does look weird with her long face and long nose. Tifa's boobs got nerfed. Wonder if the Japanese version will have larger tits. That would be kind of funny and sad.

There's nothing good about any of this.

You're not describing Aerith as portrayed in the original FFVII but as a retrospective impression colored by later contemplations and Advent Children, maybe even fan fiction. I agree that she was never a fragile character, but she was absolutely cheerful in the first game, which made her serve as an excellent foil to the brooding Cloud. The way I wrote about it makes it sound like I'm referencing cheap fan fiction, but it was just how I personally encapsulate her character. I don't actually know that much about the expanded FF7 lore - I have only played the original to the point of exhaustion.

Aerith is cheerful despite having all the reasons to be miserable. Perhaps I mischaracterized her by using the term "sad". She's rarely sad, but there's an undercurrent of sadness that surrounds her from the get-go. She only shows her cheerful side to most people. She remains optimistic although she can see her death coming from a mile away. But to me it's very clear she is keeping much of her true self hidden - Cloud and others only hear of her troubled childhood from her step mother.

She has been monitored by Turks her entire life and she has had to hide from them and other Hojo's henchmen for years. A life of secrecy. A life of being constantly on the run. Her desire to experience how it feel to be just a normal girl / young woman is presented mainly through subtext, but that's how all great storytelling is done. She wants to go on a date. She wants to play a dress-up game with Cloud (like a little girl dressing up a doll). She tries to earn a living by selling flowers. This is how people around her behave, so she tries to fit in. But she knows she's different. She has always known.

She also tries to be a THOT and steal another woman's man. Doesn't let childhood crushes and unresolved feelings get in the way of her flashing strategic upskirts to Cloudy-boy when no one is looking.

Aeris may play good girl, but she's just another partywrecking ho'. Nice lame excuse with that, "oh you look like an old boyfriend I had." Bitch was probably riding everyone in Sector 7. Don't get me started on that skimpy dress she wore for Don Corneo or how you find her in the S&M kink room confirming she's a total freak. That staff of hers ain't just for fighting, lemme tell ya that.

She's more than just White Materia and Seal Evils, BUD.

I mean she's basically Jesus with a vagina, man. Even died to protect the world from the weight of humanity's sins, if you consider Sephiroth's origins as an experiment and all.

But it's all for naught anyways, we all know that this sacrifice will be cheapened even more than it already has been over the years since the remake will undoubtedly offer a way to resurrect her and the devs will wave it off as 'well it was our original vision but we couldn't implement it because budget/time/etc

They have also implemented Materia, although it's unclear to which extent.
+ You have to Dodge and Block incoming attacks in real-time. This is definitely a welcome feature.

Shaewaroz these are supposed to be the pros?

I don't know, I guess I'm not the target, since I dropped FF12 due to its combat, and I'm aware there's other JRPGs now that have built on this weird model of party combat in a vaguely over-the-shoulder cam with giant lines connecting everybody and never knowing what the fuck is going on and (in ff12's case) being entirely dependent on setting up AI triggers.

The environments are all done superbly, and to some extent trigger my "oh god when I was 10 I dreamt of FF7 in full FMV quality 3D", but as many have commented, the voice acting & character design is just straight up uncanny.

I also have zero faith that any of the additional dialogue or scenes or whatever are going to improve on the themes and characterisation. Rarely does a story benefit from somebody going in 20 years later and adding bits and pieces of explanation and whatnot. Aeris isn't some super-deep amazing character and I was never particularly attached to her (she was too Mary Suey even when I was ten), but the original game managed to keep her reasonably mysterious and underexplained enough. She added the optimism to the story as well as hints of her own struggle, but it wasn't overblown in either direction. Anything they add to her, from the photorealistic faces and animations to possible additional dialogue, will just make her a more melodramatic, cringey, saccharine fanservice. I imagine the death scene will get extra flourishes and melodrama and become a mess.

For a fan of the original FF7, the only way to enjoy the remake is not to expect it to be the perfect recreation of all those elements that came together to form the game as we know it today. Whatever small changes you make to the original game, it won't be the same experience anymore. Stories always change when they are retold, even if it's retold by the same storyteller. I will try to approach the remake as retelling of the classic story by another storyteller. It's going to be a different story, but have some familiar elements that I can surely appreciate. Gameplay might be very different, but as long as it's enjoyable in its own right, that is enough for me.

For me it's enough to be able to revisit some of the familiar locales in glorious HD graphics. Whatever you think of Square, you have to admit their audiovisual design is usually very imaginative, detailed and impressive.

So then Sephiroth is a bro for slaying a Thot?

Sure. If I ever play this, then I would be approaching it as the latest big-budget Final Fantasy game, a franchise I dearly loved but gave up on after the Enix merger / FF movie / FFXI era. And I would expect to see some spectacular environments as always, and the question would be whether it's tied to a sufficiently decent story and gameplay system, or not (as I consider many of the later games to be).

Wish you could choose your waifus in these damn games. The one you’re ‘sposed to like is always a boring tramp. Like in 8 I could give a rats ass about Rinoa, I wanted to bang Quistis.

the fuck is that picture and why did you show it to me :negative:

I just wanted purty 3d Terra + opera scene
Reminder that the 1999 Playstation release of Final Fantasy VI included three FMV scenes using 3D modeling that was fairly true to the original art style and competently executed...and that a 3D remake made two decades later would undoubtedly look far worse despite being far more technically advanced.
