One of the civilians in this house is a woman holding a baby. Shooting the baby is not advisable. “If you comport yourself in a way not befitting a soldier, the game will fail you,” Minkoff said. “But if you’re doing your job?” The game will try to figure out if you shot that baby on purpose or accidentally. “We have a lot of heuristics running behind the scenes to try to determine: Are you a freaking psycho who’s just shooting everything? Fine. But if you’re really trying to do your job and you’re just like, ‘Oh God damn it, I made a mistake and I feel really bad about that,’ we want you to feel that. We want you to really sit with that.”

During this scene, the player is inhabiting a different young Ursekstan girl who is in the midst of sneaking away from the Russian forces. This young girl has just watched both of her parents die before her eyes; the scene culminates with her eventually getting a gun and forcing herself to use it. It’s already a harrowing scene even without the implication of sexual pedophilic peril.

I love whenever video games try to do this, because you will almost never successfully get the player go to along with the tryhard story you're trying to tell. Every single person who plays as this character will go on a no-holds-barred heavy-machinegun killing spree the instant the game gives them a weapon, absolutely nobody will LARP being a terrified civilian hesitant to open fire.

This sounds shit btw.

You could somewhat simulate this by making the kid terrible at handling the gun, so you'd have to focus instead of headshotting them with ease. Could probably ruin the intended impact if it's too hard and the player has to redo it several times, though.

Ah, a proper mil-spec recruitment tool. I'm not for it, but at least it's a touch of honest advertising. We can always use a little more of that.

Well at least it seems like they know how to pull off a reboot, unlike "some developer" did with Thief.

Btw bashing CoD is a 2012 meme, it's been 7 years.

2v2 is such a fucking awful game mode, if there's any chance of 1 person winning against 2 at the same skill level that means your game is just filled with bullshit that you can't react to.

Based on this video, this is the first CoD game since the original MW that I might be interested in trying. Rumour has it there's an open beta coming this week, so why not. And listening to this dude, it sounds like they've rebuilt a few things from the ground up. Only took, what, 10 years?
