I never get too far into Divinity Original Sin, in fact never got past the first city, college forced me to stop playing the game and then I never came back. I didn't find it THAT bad as people makes it to be. Does it get worse after the first city or I'm missing something here?

original sin 1 is fine. 2 is much much worse because of the level scaling + armor system.

armor system = make status effect useless during half of the battle and make fight rapidly ends by the time armor ends. this is bad for a game that's supposed to use environment to your advantage and most of the interaction are elemental damage and status effect.

loot level scaling = i remember in one of the location there is a sidequest where you get a legendary sword, a decently complex quest with cool looking sword. the problem is it became level 18 sword. come next town, the iron sword random merchant have already outclassed it because it's a level 20 sword. the level scaling get worse in the end, the number creep too. equipment you buy become obselete the moment you level up. having one weapon with 1 level difference is a major disadvantage because the stat difference goes higher the higher the level.

Thankfully there are mods that "remedy" these issues.. Here are the ones I suggest:

- Armor Based Saving Throws
(Makes status effects previously blocked by Physical and Magic Armour subject to saving throw rolls instead. A target's chance to resist a status effect is equal to the percentage of the corresponding armor type it has remaining. Available for Definitive and Classic Editions.)
- Level Up All Equipment
(Level up all your equipment, including uniques! No longer discard your obsolete equipment after gaining a level or two. For less than the cost of an equivalent item, upgrade your current gear to match your level.)
- Reduced Number Bloat
(Dramatically reduces the scaling of vitality, armor, and damage. Relative balance unaffected.)
- Optional but good: Interesting Uniques
(Reworks the stats of most of the unique items throughout the game to make them powerful and interesting.)

I eventually came to tolerate the armour system out of necessity but I really fucking hope they don't ruin the item generation and scaling this time.
Hopefully the scaling won't be as much of a problem as it was in the second half of DOS2 since they have a different system to lean on for BG3. On the other hand, knowing that Swen is fond of 'loot madness' and an endless supply of randomly generated Diablo/MMO type equipment is mildly worrying. Not every weapon has to be full of random side effects and additional stats. In fact I'd say that adding randomly allocated stats and effects to every piece of randomly generated weapon heavily detracts from the joy of finding what is supposed to be an actually unique weapon.

DOS1 is quite good if you play the classic edition, the first area is the best part of the game though, Luculla forest or whatever it is called isn't that exiting besides a couple of quests (i liked the merchant's escort quest), most fights on the main map are extremely boring.

The armor system really ruins the fun, you have all these skills but because of the cooldowns, you're saving them until you get past enemies armors, there's a mod with -50% armor and +75% HP for enemies, didn't try it because i found the HP boost a bit excessive, i'd be ok with a -50/+50 for everyone though.

The itemization is bad but it seems like it was exactly the same than in DOS1 but i didn't get very far in the second one so i can't really tell.

Here's the list, once again:
- Minsc,
- Coran,
- Dynaheir,
- Edwin,
- Faldorn,
- Imoen,
- Jaheira
- Kagain,
- Kivan,
- Xzar,
- Montaron,
- Viconia,
- Xan,

Well some good things may come out of this yet. Maybe we'll finally get Xan that can actually swing that Moonblade of his.

Wait, what exactly is "Heroes of Baldur's Gate"?
It doesn't look like an official WotC adventure but I recognize James Ohlen's name.
Maybe WotC will ignore it altogether.

They should have made Xan a Fighter/Mage and that would have solved the problem.

OK, I did a little research and the list going around with living Baldur's Gate companions is definitively not official.

"Heroes of Baldur's Gate" is set in 1369 DR, but before any events of Shadows of Amn.
That's why it's littered with BG1 companions.

And here's a comment from the authors on their YT.

So I guess that only leaves Minsc (and Boo) as the only officially confirmed living BG companion(s).

The moral of the story is that we won't be able to escape/avoid Minsc. And that's horrifying, much more than any mindflayers.

Oh, you are a smart one! I understand now! You said what you did just to get me mad! Mad enough to break free from the misplaced belief that BGIII could be something other than an avatar of the Decline! You are as smart as Boo sometimes.

Of course BG3 will be the avatar of decline if you expect Temple of Elemental Evil 2, you backward, washed out morons. It's a game with a huge budget, this sort of investment will not be profitable if it's ToEE2, they NEED to make it something else to actually log any profit from it. Why can't you accept that once and for all and just enjoy those new titles that roll out as best you can, if they do contain some artistic, mechanical or narrative high points?

How dare they want the best combat in a DnD RPG to be replicated or at least somewhat used as inspiration :O
I don't think many people worship ToEE for anything but combat.

Yeah, the game that nobody outside of the codex have even heard about.
If you read mainstream forums, no one speak of BG3 anymore nor have it in the after E3 wish list. Even on steam forums people seems to ask about classic d&d mechanics. So if they betray the grognards, it will flop and wont get the mainstream audience, it will be the next sword coast legend. If they do a true D&d game, they still risk to not make enough money to pay for such a large team, hope they do, else they will soon join their obsidian and inxile pals at Microsoft shovelware department.
