A derelict.
This thread and the people who wrote on it should be caged in a box, sealed with chains and thrown to the sea, jumanji style.
Your hyperbolic attempt at masking your obviously repressed homosexual lust for us is fabulously futile.

In most cases real time action combat is the best form of combat and developers should aim to implement that. This is also true for RPGs (Gothic, Risen are examples of games with good combat), even the party based ones and those with isometric perspective. In fact, a good portion of classic RPGs could've been even better if they had a proper real time combat system and encounters designed around it.

Wherever possible skill checks should provide player with mechanical challenge, instead of being "I win" buttons.

- GTA series was more fun when it was 2d.

This this this.

1. Street Fighter The Movie, EX series and Capcom Fighting Evolution are good fighting games.
2. Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon, MK vs DC are waaay better than MKX.
3. Jaguar, 3DO, Lynx are interesting consoles.
4. Saturn was slightly better than PSX.
5. Never understood the genius of Kojima and only MGS I truly like are Peace Walker and Phantom Pain and it's all strictly for gameplay reasons.
6. SiN Episodes: Emergence is better than HL2.
7. Amiga is pretty overrated as gaming platform among retro community.
8. Prince of Persia should have ended with part 2.
9. Not interested in Blizzard gaems except for Diablo 1, Warcraft 2 and Starcraft 2.
10. Dark Colony nad Z are vastly underrated and should have been considered timeless classics.

Sex cards in Witcher 1 were so much better than any actual sex scene in computer games since. You are basically looking at two 3D animated computer dolls bumping their non-existant genitalia together. It is always laughable, awkward and I just want to skip it. If want to watch porn, I'll just watch porn not this travesty.

Sex cards on the other hand are subtle, tasteful and just look really nice. Not only that - they give much pleasurable experience than looking at those awkward 3D budget hentai soft core. And is that not the goal of a sexual encounter in a game? So the player could feel like he achieved something and feel good about it? I will always feel better looking at sex cards.

People complained that sex cards turn women in games into Pokemon - if that bothers you just take one of the mechanics from Witcher 1 and expand it. Were the main romance options had multiple sex cards. Give more sex cards to less amount of women and the problem is solved. You can even combine it with the feature from Witcher 3 when if you form a long term reliationship with more than one women you end out with nothing.

- The Hitman series is terribly overrated (though Blood Money and the two latest titles are great).
What a stupid fucking statement. Blood Money and the last two titles is what 99% of people praise so dearly. Nearly everyone admits that the original trilogy was uneven.
Uhhh... What?
Only the first game was considered uneven. H2 is/was universaly praised. Much later someone said something about japanese missions bla bla, but it didnt matter. The last two games are praised (i guess) but are shit.

The last two games are the best Hitman games to date. Almost everyone admits that Hitman 2: SA had far too much filler. Most of the missions in that game had no replay value at all.

Intense storytelling in rpgs is a mistake
There's a place for everything, man. I can enjoy both Witcheroo 3 and Might and Magic. It doesn't have to be one or the other, there's a place for everything and a marker for it as well.
Very true...but we lack modern M&M variants but are flooded with ElderScrollsreddeadredemgtawitcher clones...

True, true. But look at the kids and young adults playing games around you - nobody is going to buy, learn and play a MnM today. It's sad but it is what it is. I've long since given up on the idea that there will be any great games ever again, not just RPGs but any genre really. When something comes along once every 5-6 years, it's a very nice surprise.

Like movies...only kiddycrap in the cinemas...but tv series took the part of storytelling (TD,Broadchurch). There is hope in gaming (not in mainstreamAAA). Look a LordArchibald.

I like the creation engine, and maintain its primary issue is that bethesda lacks the diligence or talent to adapt it properly to more advanced graphics or complex algorithms. The blame should be levied at bethesda, rather than the engine itself.

There is no reason to pay for your videogames anymore.
The reason is not being a thieving shitlord. You can steal almost anything, doesn't mean you should. I think people should pirate every game because it would reduce the amount of crap on the market. But I think if you enjoy a game enough to play it for hours, then you should pay for it, if only to support the company so that they can make more games for you. Or don't pay and they go out of business and gaming will be nothing but EA.

System Shock 1 is so clunky it actually is unplayable, and thus trash.
I completed it when I was about 12. Gitgud. You can even get a mouselook mod now.

Yahtzee stopped being interesting to watch before episode 10 of Zero Punctuation.
I agree.

Mobile gaming is cancer.
Yep!

- Oversexualised women in games are annoying. Giant breasts, skimpy outfits, all that tedious 3D titillation. It makes the medium more lowbrow than it deserves to be.

- The "PC master race" idea based on upgradeable hardware, like this, is dumb. PC games are superior because of the different genre composition and gameplay traits, as correctly described in the initial genesis of the term. If you all you play on the PC are shooters with fancy graphics, it is ridiculous to call yourself master race.

- The term "video games" should be used for console games, and the term "PC (or computer) games" should be used for PC games. There should be no shared term for the two and it should be immediately clear whether you are talking about one or the other.

I'd say the prestige of the PC as a system to play games on comes first and foremost from its input devices and the options they open up that are not available on consoles and a big part of this spectrum is exactly high-precision shooters.

The division was clearer in the 90s and early 00s when you had to play on PC to enjoy fine RPGs or good shooters, but it's becoming a lot more blurred with new proper RPGs coming to consoles and shooters being developed console-first very often.

Ms. Sarkeesian I did not expect to meet you here!
I expected this reaction, but do you honestly want to see illustrations in a Dostoyevsky book with e.g. Sonyechka with a giant breast falling out of a torn dress? When you come to the theatre, do you want the actresses to dance a jig flashing their undies? It's just lowbrow and knocks everything down a notch.

And the games are still typical console stuff, a bunch of action games. The problem isn't just the mouse. It is a whole range of things. For example, the inconvenience of reading small text on a large distant TV screen. The established titles. The audience. The commercial models.

No Eador on consoles. Indeed, even mobile games are probably somewhat more august.

Everything has it's time and place, depending a gengre and target audience.
If it's some weebo harem-style VN inspired by Dostoevsky your depiction of Sonyechka would have been rightfully placed.
You imply that "flashing undies" on theatric scene is vulgar, but the very same thing is normal (not to say integral) in ballet, which scene is not any less prestigious.

The reason I reacted that way is that en-masse generalization in your words.
Not all RPGs are meant to be stone-serious pathos-ridden high-brow studies on mathematical and philosofical dillemas, where sexy women would only distract players from sitting monocled on their high horses.

While a lot of console games from the current and past generation are just plain bad, console games from previous generations (and a rare few today) are not. Well-made action games like Dark Souls or Devil May Cry have much better gameplay and are significantly more difficult than the Codex's favourite cRPGs. The 2d Metroid games are fantastic, as are the original Silent Hill games and platformers like Crash Bandicoot.

PC games aren't superior to console games; PC developers did some genres better (RPGs, RTS, FPS, TBS, etc.) and console developers did others better (action games, platformers, Metroidvanias, survival horror, etc.).

The Dark Souls games are boring.

Divinity: Original Sin was a huge waste of money and I will never buy another game made by Larian.

Discworld 1 was better than Discworld 2.
