After years of disappointment, Crapstarter "Renaissance" has finally been redeemed

Yea that one made me close to check online what to do next.

But yea finding desert area made me check things online, because i not expected that skill necessary to progress drops from a standard mob.

Are you supposed to
spend al your money before fighting the casino chips boss in the Den of Behemoths? I saw a video online where he was healing for double-digits while sucking money off the player and in my game he heals for hundreds, making him effectively impossible to beat.

Well, damn. I don't know what to spend it on! I don't have enough for the discount ticket and don't really want anything else... :(

Guess I'll need to grind the millionaire room a lot... :|

Ended up going to sleep 3 hours later than I wanted, because I strapped on my helmet, and smashed every wall I came across with my giant, retard tongue while exploring with Reflector, and stumbled across

the fucking 8-bit nightmare, which was easily the hardest boss I've encountered. Fucker killed me twice, even with using all my healing items, plus all my Faerie Medicine. Never died, or used a single healing item outside of first time food bonuses before then. 3rd try, I had my Silver Knight out (easily the best familiar), and saw he blocked a Fire Pillar and stopped it in its tracks....which gave me the idea to use Directional Shield - and it completely trivializes the fight.

Still proud to say I got the Phase 2 fire spam down to a 50/50 shot of coming through unscathed.

Since only his head is vulnerable, Greatswords are perfect for the fight and made me fall in love with my Gram. The charge attack (quarter-circle forward + Attack) is fuckin' great, and I smoked Bloodless with it for like 250 a shot.

Edit: Also, had a random thought to jump on top of the drawbridge at the very entrance of the castle and found that off-screen HP and MP Max Up. Feel like I should have known better because I vaguely recall the exact same thing in SOTN. :argh:

Guys, what was your weapon progression in the game?

I started out with Lethal Boots, then switched to Harpe when it was available, then bought the Schedar and used that later to craft the Durandal which I had until the end. Tried others in between, but nothing quite fit the same mix of attack power and speed
I've been using Great Swords for a great majority of the game (which i haven't finished just yet) and they've been working like a charm, 'specially with the two speed buffs i have going for them (tome + shard). It's nice cheesing enemies on higher ledges with 'em. and hitting enemies above, behind and in front of you with one slice.:positive:

My plan is to stay near bosses and spam my most powerful weapon + construction while chugging potions.
It got me to the lair of behemoths. Doesn't work on carpenter unfortunately.

Quick Fix: Max out Shadow Clones, hold R1 while attack spamming. My Deathbringer hits for about 270 phys, 67 fire, and the clones hit for 60 phys each (all 3 of them). Occasionally stop and hold R2 for Directed Shield when you see a wind-up, and block it. Once it's safe, resume attack spam. Can't lose.

Fun little fact: If you kill a boss without taking any damage, a female voice exclaims, "Congratulations!" along with a little flash of a Blue Rose behind Miriam.

9 8-bit overlord kills, and no shard yet :negative:

I started a new game on nightmare and I'm about 50% into the game. It's the same as hard except you are stuck at level 1 for the whole game meaning you can only increase your stats with food, max hp/mp items and equipment. Similar to such modes in Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia.

It's quite brutal, especially in the beginning, because you can't afford a lot of healing resources and you die in 2-3 hits. You really have to learn the enemies' attack patterns because you can't brute force through everything with stats and occasional healing anymore.

In fact, it's like the Dark Souls of metroidvanias :happytrollboy:

Its SHIT. I don't know why people waste their time. All the enemies in this game are slow as molasses. Your far better off playing a retro nes gba game if you want that kind of challenge.

Beat the first boss and started exploring the castle on Hard.

Impressions so far:
Controls sometimes do not feel super tight. Particularly jumping.
Enemy attack patterns are pretty interesting.
The game is very pretty.
I've literally put on the Stone Mask from JoJo, elf ears, and a headband.
Edit- Oh and the music is great. Highly recommend playing w/ a subwoofer if you can.

Somberlain how do you avoid the water spout attack on the first boss (when she is at the end of the ship and sends it out in a straight line)? I ended up just avoiding everything else, getting hit twice, and killing her with the greatsword, which seems OP.

Double edit- I got massive castelvania vibes running through the spooky forest and crossing the drawbridge. Nice touch.
