Star Wars Would you want to see a Knights of the Old Republic 3?

Would you have wanted it made? It was going to be developed by Obsidian which means it would have been horrible and unplayable during it's launch but it still sounded awesome (and more original than whatever Bioware did with the property in SWTOR). It would have been about:
  • The exile going to the Unknown Regions to search for Revan
  • Encountering "true and pure" Sith lords who would have been ancient and monstrous
  • Emphasis on environmental storytelling (Obsidian isn't exactly known for their artwork and visuals, so Im skeptical if they would have been able to pull this off)
  • The end to the KOTOR trilogy and properly finish the overarching story arc that was set up in the first game
This is a really unique premise, especially for Star Wars. Im sure that even if the gameplay was going to be shit, they still would have done excellently in the writing department.

What you're listing are actually just Chris Avellone's wishes for a third game. An actual KotOR 3 was in pre-production at LucasArts before it was cancelled, and apart from some planets that were going to be visited, it's unknown what the game would be about.

But yes, I would have been interested in a sequel made by Obsidian (hopefully better scoped and with a better idea of deadlines this time around). It would have been cool to see Chris' ideas for the really alien and powerful Sith Lords.

I would like KotOR 3. Anthem had beautiful environments which I would like to see in Star Wars game.
I'm only worried if Bioware writers could pull this off.
Andromeda's and Anthem's writing and characters weren't impressive.

Star Wars has been compromised. Who would the audience be for a proposed Kotor 3?

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Yes, as long as:
  1. It was set in the original universe
  2. It was not a single player MMO
  3. It was not seamless open world (i do not mind an open world with a more abstracted overworld like Fallout 1/2 though)
  4. It had no microtransactions, games-as-a-service bullshit, DLC (outside of perhaps big expansion-like ones)
  5. It had decent writing
  6. Was available on GOG (or other DRM-free store, but might as well be there too)
I don't really care if it was made by Bioware or Obsidian or any other developer, i like both KOTOR games and anyway the staff at both companies has changed a lot since the time they made these games.

But a good KOTOR? Sure, why not?

I would've liked to have seen it when it was still relevant, developed by Obsidian and Chris Avellone, before Star Wars: The Old Republic, and before nu-Star Wars.

Today I don't. There is zero chance that it'd be good, and zero chance it'd be worthy of being called Knights of the Old Republic. I don't want this just as much as I don't want Baldur's Gate 3.

As others have stated there is literally zero chance the game would be any good if developed in today's age.

Nope I don't want another shitty half baked nostalgia cash grab that I need to play at least 7 times until I find enjoyment.

I have a sneaky feeling in the back of my head that I've hard that somewhere (this and other points to be exact, but these ones I want to address), you a follower of a certain YouTuber...? On the subject: no, I would not want that, certainly not with this premise. It sounds just boring and bad. Revan himself/herself isn't a very compelling character as far as he/she was written in both games, Exile... don't even make me start on that.

I played through KOTOR about six months ago and I have to admit it still manages to... evoke something in the withered husk that is my soul. In a way it was not unlike going back and watching the un-specialised OT films, except not on the same level obviously. I appreciate and respect the game for that, even though it intermittently reeks of BioWare's stilted and cringy writing. My attitude towards KOTOR 2 is more complicated. I want to like it but it is compromised by Obsidian's notorious heavy-handed narrative structure. Going from planet to planet in the first game - with the feeling of exotic adventure - is kind of charming. It was perhaps the last sigh before the old BioWare gave up the ghost. KOTOR 2 is a depressing experience, perhaps in ways that Obsidian had not intended. It's often a dreary game to play, for no good reason. IMO.

KOTOR 3? Who would make it?

Obsidian? They're a non-factor now, quickly fading away on the periphery of the industry. I think their New Vegas in space or whatever is their last shot.

BioWare? It exists in name only and the company now has nothing to do with any of the older titles.

To be frank, we've already had KOTOR 3, in the guise of the magical, splendiferous, earth-shaking success that was The Old Republic - featuring Revan as a beta neckbeard motherfucker who's really interested in your opinion and is in touch with his feminine side. It doesn't matter. KOTOR was never really that great anyway. The first game was a decent romp in space. The second one was extremely inconsistent (which I find more aggravating than anything else). The third one would've undoubtedly taken after the principles of Disney's dumpster fire of a trilogy and driven the vibroblade deeper into the heart of what was once a charming universe.

Of course it'll be made, someday. There's money in it. Baldur's Gate 3 is being made FFS. Think of all the loot boxes, XP boosts and skins for your blasters. It's gonna be great.
