Grab the Codex by the pussy
If that's supposed to disprove my point, then you must be unfamiliar with the illusions and gimmicks used to disguise linear corridors so that they appear otherwise.

Skyrim's dungeons are actually the epitome of this methodology. Although they appear at a glance to have multi-level features and complex infrastructure, in reality they're all linear funnels passing by treasure nooks on the way to quick exits. It's impossible to get lost in them because they're on rails.

It's nearly impossible to get these concepts across to people who don't know what it's like to play a game with genuinely complex and multilayered level design, for fairly obvious reasons.

Is this another Unity engine game?

EDIT: They all tend to look the same and have a shitty, inconsistent framerate.

Looks too edgy, too much focus on explosions and body horror. Original wasn't scary because of these things, but because of something else.

Because of what was behind you, which was so frightening, you even could install a camera in the back of your head?

The FOV is wrong in that video. It doesn't give the feeling of SS2 at all.

Example:

The way the camera is setup in the trailer at least, the ratio of the environment to the protagonist feels off to me. It makes me feel like I'm playing an Xbox 360 era shooter. Compare it with the atmosphere and the setup above. The old game seems to contain much more clear information, in a smaller space. The screenshot above is 4:3 and yet you get a better feel for the place and situation by it, than the whole 16:9 video trailer posted.

Shodan's face is also wrong somehow.

There are some Unity games that don't run like dogshit, but none that have stellar performance or optimization relative to what they're doing. There's no blazing fast games on Unity, only games that properly cull and don't run like dogshit for the dated visuals they have, and that's usually what it is, that they targeted not-particularly-impressive-visuals and managed to get a decent framerate as a result, which is an improvement on having awful performance with awful visuals, but not amazing.

As an example does anyone think a modern Infinity Engine in C/C++ would not run a million times better or have way better loading times than Pathfinder/Tyranny/Pillars had?

It looks pretty decent imo. Reminds me a lot of SS2. Not expecting a masterpiece, but probably worth to check out.
