I bought this game but haven't played it yet (want to finish Greedfall first).

The Hardland beta went up for sale on Steam years ago and then there was a long silence from the developers. It got a lot of negative Steam reviews from customers who believed it abandoned.

Then, just a few days ago, it finally released. It sounds like it contains some interesting design decisions, like having no quest log.

There's a YouTube "Walk Across The Map" video that takes a little over a half hour. I am meretricious in my enthusiasm for open-world games, so I suspect I'll at least enjoy poking around even if nothing else about it is good.

Has anyone here tried it? Any thoughts?

I can't find many reviews but here are two things to look at:

Video game forum with some discussion:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/ha...ed-on-steam-amazing-looking-indie-rpg.141664/

Steam page with user reviews (including many negative ones from the period when the developers went incommunicado for a while):
https://store.steampowered.com/app/321980/Hardland/

I took a break from Greedfall and tried Hardland for an hour or two. I like it. It's a good-looking game, in a cartoony way, and rather polished for an indie production.

The "surreal" part seems Twin Peaksish... not completely random, but elliptical in a way that makes you think (or hope) there is some underlying coherence. I'm fine with it if it stays around the current level of weirdness.

I went through a gap in rocks, outside the palm port on the eastern shore, and fell into an oubliette and had to load my last save. Other than that, no complaints so far.

BTW, my thanks to the moderator who took the trouble to fix my original post!

I love how it kind of looks like claymation. Kind of wish that aesthetic was more intentional. :D

I found it by chance while surfing on steam. Has anyone tried it?
