By the virtue of being mentioned in this thread many titles have become less obscure than much of sholeware released everyday on Steam, which will never be mentioned on any forum ever.

- be so indie it was only ever released on the developer's website, which is the only place you can buy it at
- so obscure that you can only find it on abandonware or piracy sites anymore, with no physical copies on ebay and the dev's website gone from the net
Fallout 76?

Found this stuff while searching for obscure DnD games: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/149082/Old-School-Computer-Game

If anyone's willing to give it a spin (4$, only sold on drivethrurpg), please post a review or something.

I have not played it myself yet but it's mentioned once in a while and is a fun game according to trustful users :

You can find several discussions about the game on the FRUA forums (the creator especially regularly opens update threads there) :

since pictures say more than a thousand words and because there's a severe lack of pics of this game, I've decided to post some screenshots. all you need to know is, that the OSCG is a goldbox-like and imo very much worth playing. combat is turn based, movement inside and outside of combat is grid based.

character creation (many many pictures):

not shown: you can choose your character's skin tone and hair color.

overworld exploration and town. please note that this is just the starting location and the size of this isle is not representative of the overall size of the game:

Game is totally worth the money. I’m surprised it doesn’t get more love here. It’s got all the old school sensibilities anyone could want and it’s updated frequently.

I’ve been playing it off and on for years. No complaints here. It’s just not available on a standard game store, so it’s hard for people to find.

Some obscure little games I found while trawling through itch.io:

True Meteor Reincarnation:
https://magigato.itch.io/true-meteor-reincarnation

Light RPG inspired by the SMT series

Bludgeons and Krakens:

Single-char tile based RPG

Now for some older and more obscure stuff that isn't available on any stores.

Magebane 2 is a weird real-time RPG where you control 3 characters on a quest to find the amulet of Yendor.

Zenfar Battlegrounds is a game I couldn't find a lot of info about, but it does exist on a storefront. It's available on Gamersgate:

Blade & Sword is a Diablo clone in a Chinese setting:

Legacy is a good-looking dungeon crawler for... pocket PC. Also runs on a Windows PC natively. Made by the guys who made The Quest, except nobody remembers this one.

Ten Nights of Killing and Mayhem at F.J.B. II is and RPG where you create a party of students trying to stop the school principal from attaining world domination. Yeah.

We had a thread, and I think even a newspost on Bludgeons and Krakens. And Zenfar has been mentioned a few times here already. Though the fact that this monstrosity is still being sold is certainly news to me.

Was Zenfar really that bad? I could not find a single review of the game online.

Of all things mention ITT I became really interested in Arcatera: The Dark Brotherhood (the aesthetics of what I see on screenshots is awesome). Trying to find the working version.

The backgrounds in Arcatera are really well done, but the character sprites only look good in screenshots - i.e. in static. When moving around, they get extremely pixellated, the way they tend to in late-1990s Adventures (e.g. Bladerunner).

It's not THAT obsecure and neither a proper rpg but Swords&Sandals still worth mentionng.

Ye it's pretty cool.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1055430/Swords_and_Sandals_Classic_Collection/

Also, more game obscurities that can be found on itch or Steam, but passed below everyone's radar and therefore qualify:

NAH2D1.png

The Storm Guard is a game I bought on Steam during a sale after it sat on my wishlist for a while. It's a decent game focused on turn based tactical combat.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/409910/The_Storm_Guard_Darkness_is_Coming/

Probably one of the less obscure games here since it actually has about 100 reviews. Still, haven't seen it mentioned anywhere even on the Codex.

And now for some truly obscure stuff, that hopefully hasn't been posted in this thread before (if it has, I apologize for my bad memory):

Rinne is a Diablo style action RPG where you play a Valkyrie that can possess bodies. Interesting take on the genre. Seems to play just like any other Diablo clone though, so eh.

949216-rinne-windows-screenshot-you-start-off-as-a-spirit-and-you.png

949235-rinne-windows-screenshot-the-blue-guy-can-chain-combos-and.png

You wouldn't expect a game with the title Mean Gils: High School Showdown to qualify as an RPG, but then, look at this glorious stats screen:

359892-mean-girls-high-school-showdown-windows-screenshot-points.png

The gameplay consists of match 3 puzzles like bejeweled, though, so... yeah.
359900-mean-girls-high-school-showdown-windows-screenshot-fighting.png

Still, look at that GLORIOUS STAT SCREEN!

Now I want an actual high school RPG with proper RPG mechanics.

Now, Homeland: The Stone of Night is a game I've been searching for but didn't find for the longest time. But then I actually found an archive link that still worked:

Thanks, JarlFrank, great finds like always. I am especially interested in Homeland. It looks like shit, but is the gameplay fine? Did you manage to try it out?

I downloaded it *just now* and am currently uploading it to my mediafire account for preservation purposes before installing it.

Gonna try it tonight after work. I heard the gameplay is terrible but I'm willing to give it a chance.

I guess another game added to my endless backlog.

Please, keep us updated about this thing. Always curious about such uncharted lands.
