Cleric. Why? Because of their versatility. I always played them in 1st and 2nd ed, but in 3.0 and 3.5 they took off. In fact in 3.5 it could be argued they were OP - but doing stuff like sword and shield cleric with hold person, dispel magic, and all kinds of alignment type spells - just adds a lot of dimension. Can probably use the majority of found magic items. Parties love Clerics played well.

Warriors and such are too one dimensional. Wizards just take too long to be viable. Druids are situational and get shit tier weapons. Rogues are fun but are situational and for the most they are simple check door/check for traps/etc, and leather armor sucks. Paladins are fun in the right situation, but it varies. Other spell-casters take too long to be good. Bards are weak nuisances that should be crushed. Get the fuck out of here making DM's put magic harps in the fucking treasure to appease you lazy bums!
Who cares about weapons as a druid when you can tear a guy's face off with your bear form?

Thief/Rogue.

I like their versatility in both roleplay and gameplay. Surviving in a world full of monsters by wits, cunning and a very sharp knife always appealed to me. They're the natural underdog yet an amazing asset to any party.

No arguing about it. 3.5 Clerics (especially with the splatbook add-ons but even w/o them) were comically OP. Full plate, dual wielding 2 handed swords (monkey grip, oversized weapon feats), who can also turn undead, heal themselves to full, buff the hell out of everyone, and courtesy of 3.5e, chuck fireballs, cones of cold, and chain lightning with the best of them that any wizard could muster while wearing full plate armor. lolwut

They were fighter / cleric / wizard multiclassed with none of the penalties for being so. It was hilarious because in 1E/2E people generally bitched about 'who wants to play the cleric' because with the no edged weapons and lackluster spells you ended up being somewhat of healing battery for the party. They highly overcompensated by 3.5 edition. Now my same pen & paper group had to fight over everyone wanting to be cleric because if you are a min/maxer (many were) why wouldn't you want such a versatile class.

Because just like wizards you have to suffer through low level to get to bear form. That is, everyone wants Fireball, but you have to suffer through 4 levels of garbage to get there. Clerics are shat out awesome. Great weapons, armor, spells, and abilities. Straightline awesome - always useful. Someone to defend, heal, and burn down a forest if necessary. Druids? Nope. I wouldn't call on them for any of those things. Can Clerics turn into bears? How uncouth. They don't need to turn into anything. They can summon bears. Or Demons. Or planar allies. Or undead.

What great weapons? Do your Clerics get all feats automatically? No wonder they are OP!

As for low levels, it is called "Animal Companion". You basically get two PCs in one at low levels. It is at higher levels that the animal companion drop off in effectiveness.

What 5e? There is no DnD after 3.5.

(Plus he is specifically talking about 3.5)
