Ahem, I also think Kineticist is retarded as a class lorewise.
its the saddest thing because thematically warlocks are so goddamn c o o l

Took me a long time to get around to trying it (I hate not using weapons in general) and there’s a learning curve but it’s grown on me.

It’s subtle but the strength of the class is actually staying power, which makes it a perfect (maybe too perfect) fit for this game. DE gets weaker when you rest.

I’m unfamiliar with the pros and cons lorewise. Someone care to enlighten me?

Well, one of you here should write it.
I was actually going to do that myself. But then I realized there is way too much to talk about...... Such a review is pretty daunting, if you ask me.

The key takeaway is that it’s not just a throwback to BG, but also to Pool of Radiance and Rogue. You could call it mandatory replayability.

Why don't you write a review for the game? You write better than me.

Been editing too long. Don’t remember what it’s like to write from scratch. Lantern King ain’t got nothing on a blank page.

I just had an idea. Why doesn't the illustrious prestigious Trashos write the review instead? What's your excuse ;)

I 'd love to, but I am soon moving to a different country in a different continent. I will barely have time to game for a while.

Beat THIS excuse!

Well I thought of reviewing it but then I realized I just spent 300 hours replaying chapters 1 and 2 with different builds.

I have case 4 terminal restartitis, beat THIS excuse.

LOL! I was just going to say you should review the game.
Well maybe we should get Haplo to write the review. Haplo is a pretty knowledgeable fellow.

Kineticist is a blaster with a very weird power curve and annoying Burn system. They have consistent damage, and to many targets at higher level, but before level 7 (and to a good degree even after that) they are almost useless against anything immune to their element (The DLC companion for the class largely avoids this problem due to their unique ability). The other major issue is that many elements struggle to do anything but blast at HP.

Replayability so mandatory you can’t make it halfway thru the game without replaying it. Been there.

Yeah why do some blasts have a zillion infusions and some have none?

I started playing Varnhold's lot and I have to admit I'm pretty amazed how well can this game emulate the feeling of playing a good IE game. The first big area with varied, difficult encounters, some awesome loot, puzzle, helping/killing the dragon and the other adventurer group seems ripped straight from BG2, only with added incline of more C&C and skill checks.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Okay, seven hours in, a couple of restarts later. The first few hours I was kind of wishy washy about it. I liked the weather system, the music but sadly the writing seemed terrible.

And indeed these are the worst companions I've ever seen in an IE style game. It's really a pity because their models, animations and art are fantastic but they are written so flat and really feel soulless. The writing outside of the companions is perfect for the setting and sets the scene really nicely so it's a shame that this didn't carry over to a few of your cohorts. I got my hopes up at the introduction of Nassim but I guess that was just a fluke because he never did anything like that again. The undead elf was also a major disappointment as I really liked her concept, was hoping for a Kai from Lexx "the dead do not have feelings" thing. But oh well.

That said, as time passed something about the setup did draw me in hard, I grabbed a few mercenaries to water down the meh and it's starting to click. The "fight, loot, camp" loop is powerful and it feels good to be into a game like this again! Combat is so crunchy and the character building is as pornographic as everyone said.

Definitely going to get stuck into this one.

Welcome to your obsession for next months at least :)

I am still playing this game when others are playing Disco Elysium, Atom, new Underrail Expansion or TOW.

You're not the only one, lol. I've been playing this game since release. Haven't stopped since. When I find a game that I like, I stick to it like glue.

It's a hundred hour game, you're seven hours in. You haven't even met half the companions yet, let alone heard more than a fifth of the stories of the ones you have. Mercenaries are gimped. If you don't like those companions, there are more to come.

Might and Magic create your own party is fine. That's not how these games are designed to work. At least do one playthrough as designed so you can make an informed decision.

I'm about done for awhile I think. Respec is bugged in that your character level gets stuck at one, which destroys crucial things like Trapfinding and Bardic Knowledge that I build around:

Perception Luck.jpg

She got lucky here, but her Perception should be 45, not 38.

Sadly I hated the companions so much I opened up the wiki to check if there was any that interested me. Assuming this list is complete, I've read through their bios and they all seem terrible. And don't get me started about having an Evil aligned character and a Good aligned character as lovers, way to make the whole system a joke.

How are mercenaries gimped?
