Next Battlefield launching in 2022, it will be a 'live service'

In terms of the overall franchise direction, I don’t think you should read into this a dramatic change in franchise direction other than it will be driven around live service as the nature of our industry now. It will be cutting edge. It will be high fidelity. It will be doing things in the context of multi-play and social play and competition that Battlefields to this point have not done. And we do believe it will be a really, really exciting title in FY ‘22.

Do people actually play Battlefield for their engaging and well written singleplayer campaigns?
The game may as well be considered to be a 'live service' for years now.

Why write your own code when you can copy code from a magazine
Why type code from a magazine when you can own a physical copy?
Why own a physical copy when you can own a digital copy?
Why own a digital copy when you can buy a license to an indefinitely valid digital copy?
Why buy a license for a digital copy when you can rent it monthly?
Why pay monthly license fee for a digital copy when you can buy it as a service?
Why buy a service when you can pay to watch someone else play the game for you?
...?

I call it FAAS -

Fun as a service.

Exactly, the game is known for its multiplayer. The mediocre campaigns are surely very costly and use a lot of development time that could be used to make the multiplayer better. It's especially bad when they tried in BF1 to make a "profound" story, with mediocre stock characters in a game where the real focus is fun and "only in battlefield" moments. At least the levels were nice and open with branching paths. With a bit more effort they could have been more fun.

BUUUUT, that doesn't stop them from making a coop campaign as DLC or maybe even put story moments in the multiplayer maps.
