With 2-2-2 they managed to remove the quick from quick play. I get longer queues than for comp as whatever they give reward to queue for.

But hey, at least your team plays retarded in a structured way.

Team Fortress 2 has lasted 12 years and it's still going strong.
Overwatch lasted for 3 and it's already killed off with a sequel.

Can't wait for Overwatch 3 in 2022 and Overwatch 4 in 2025. Who knows, the fourth time you pay $60 for the same game but with one new game mode they might actually change up the characters designs slightly... Give them a bit of a haircut or something.

It's not gonna get killed. Overwatch 2 is actually an (Overpriced probably) PvE expansion pack and a rename for the current game.

In summary: Overwatch 1 will dissapear from the Battle.net launcher and it will be upgraded to Overwatch 2, and it will for free to all who bought the first game, maintaining all your progress (Skins, graffitis, icons, etc). It will feature all the current content from the current game version + the "engine improvements" + all the new maps, events, PvP modes and new characters for free. If you already have the game you don't need to buy OW2, except if you want the new PvE content.

The closest thing to this that cames to my mind is Left 4 dead/Left 4 dead 2 scenario, and it still very different to this.

Blizz must be desperate to announce it so soon, when the game barely looks different from the last one and they don't even know when it will release. Think about how long Blizzard normally goes between sequels. Pretty much everything from this Blizzcon looks half-baked in fact, Diablo IV looks like a mod for Diablo III and the new WoW expansion looks like glorified patch content.

None of these games were ready to be showed, but Blizzard had to do damage control quickly.

Actually, the only thing I don't get about OW2 is the name. Why create useless confusion when you can just call it PvE DLC (tm) and avoid it?

I bet they want to slap a 60$ price tag on it and can't do it with an expansion

"I HAVE AN IDEA!"

Some guy on the internet saying he knows better than Blizzard how to make money.

Blizzard:

generating more content for people to actually buy while they're interested usually generates more profit that just letting your IP rot for 3+ years, yes. Currently every single worthwhile skin in the game can easily be bought with the ingame currency, there's an overabundance of them (because that's the only type of content that blizzard has been adding consistently for years now) which makes them be worth even less than you'd usually think.
Battlepasses are godawful but boy if they rake in the money. Just put in some shiny new skins with prettier effects and even more bloated particles, give a chance for an ultra rare one, hell just have actual gun skins like the golden ones as rewards for a paid gamemode like in MvM. people WILL buy it in droves, regardless of the questionable worth of such items.

also you know announcing a secuel to your game to try and damage control a pr disaster within your company then revealing that you'll be cutting development for your current game so you can pump all of it to the secuel that's, again, years away might not have been the smartest of plays.

Your ignore list.
They have also canceled the PVP crossplay with OW1, which was promised in the reveal by Jeff

Now they will split their dwindling playerbase into two games. Great strategy right here.

DOA? Doubt it. Shit like classic wow and all their other remakes are solid proof there's no hope.

McCree
Overwatch players are calling for Jesse McCree to be renamed after a developer the hero is named after was featured in a Blizzard report outlining allegations against the company.

On July 27, as Blizzard employees staged a walkout protest, Kotaku reported on the infamous “Cosby Suite” at BlizzCon 2013 – a nickname given to Alex Afrasiabi’s booze-filled hotel room.

The report featured a photo of a group chat screenshot that had been uploaded to Afrasiabi’s Facebook. In it, former designer David Kosak wrote “I am gathering the hot chixx for the Coz.”

“You can’t marry ALL of them Alex,” he added, which prompted Afrasiabi to disagree. “I can, I’m Middle Eastern.”

Following this, WoW Level Designer Jesse McCree chimed in with “You misspelled f**k.”

Jesse McCree, of course, is also a character from Overwatch who seems to have been named after the dev. In a 2019 BlizzCon panel, McCree the developer claimed his parents were “big Overwatch fans.”

Players want Jesse McCree renamed in Overwatch
Following this news, players have begun calling for Blizzard to rename the cowboy hero.

“Petition for Overwatch to rename Jesse McCree to Matt Mercer in light of the real life Jesse McCree being a greasy ‘Cosby Suite’ dwelling scumbag,” one player wrote on Twitter.

Others went as far as calling for the devs to kill off the character. “Kill off Jesse mcCree or give us his real name for Overwatch 2, I’m never speaking that PoS name again.”

With so many players calling for change, it will be interesting to see what actions are taken. Previously, the WoW dev team stated they would be removing references “not appropriate” for their world following the allegations.

Of course, removing McCree’s name would also mean redoing multiple in-game interactions and voice lines, so it’s not as simple as it may sound.

Whether or not the hero ends up being locked until changes are made or even killed off in Overwatch 2 remains unknown, but the idea of Jesse McCree not really being the hero’s real name seems like a plausible route.

The Overwatch devs have not yet commented on the situation.
