Edit: Looks like another Level Design-free borefest.

Level and quest design has plummeted so much the last handful of years. Developers have learned most people are fine with vapid busywork and have prioritized their resources accordingly.
Have you played ELEX? :smug:

I guess receiving big bucks from Epic was a wise decision for them. I can't help but imagine the decision was from ESDF, the investor on this game, seeing the state of the game.

Well, that's the end of it, Bethesda won: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...shuts-down-staff-to-join-bethesdas-new-studio

Human Head shuts down, staff to join Bethesda's new studio
Co-founder Chris Rhinehart becomes creative director at Roundhouse Studios

Bethesda has announced the opening of a new studio in Madison, Wisconsin, named Roundhouse Studios.

It's not exactly starting from scratch though, as the studio is actually comprised of staff from Human Head Studios, which Bethesda's announcement revealed has closed down.

The team will start working on "unannounced projects" for Bethesda immediately and, by the sound of it, no one was laid off in the process. Human Head Studios had launched its latest game, Rune 2, just yesterday on the Epic Games Store.

Chris Rhinehart, now creative director at Roundhouse Studios and former project lead and co-founder at Human Head, commented: "Sadly, we had to wind down the business of Human Head Studios and close its doors, which was particularly devastating due to the passion and creativity of the team we'd assembled.

"We reached out to our friends at Bethesda for help, and they saw that same creativity and passion in our team. With the formation of Roundhouse Studios, Bethesda offered every employee of Human Head a position at the new company. We are excited our team will remain together, pursuing the work we love, as part of a company we already know and admire."

Bethesda's SVP of development Todd Vaughn added that while he was "sorry to hear" about Human Head Studios' challenges, he was "excited by the opportunity to bring under the Bethesda umbrella this talented, established development team."

He added: "We are delighted that the entire staff will remain together and is now part of the Bethesda family."

Human Head Studios was the original developer of Rune and Prey. Prey 2 was famously cancelled in 2014 following a contract dispute, while the team's 2018 title The Quiet Man was critically panned.

Bethesda also recently acquired Canadian mobile studio Alpha Dog.

Being forcefully reborn as another gnarl on massive parasite known as Bethedsa is a fate worse than death.

Only being a zombie mass producing CoD garbage every year is worse.

This looks like it was produced without a visual / art director. Everything is bland, generic and desaturated to the maximum.

So are we finally getting Prey 2?

"We have a great game that needs a dedicated studio to do maintenance, it's called Fallout 76, perhaps you've heard of it; you'll love it..."

So, after Bethesda gets their Prey 2 scrapped (which looked pretty good), they make Rune 2 timed exclusive on Epic and then get sold to Bethesda anyway as a trophy of some kind, am I getting this right?
Kids, don't become game devs. Become electricians, plumbers, car mechanics, taxi drivers, anything but game devs. It's not worth it.

It looks more and more like that their investor wanted to withdraw, and saw Epic as the way out.

WTF, just noticed this. This is hilarious.

Epic paid for this? I'm starting to think maybe they really did get ripped off with The Outer Worlds.

AN UPDATE FROM HUMAN HEAD STUDIOS

The last month has been a unique one for all of us at Human Head Studios. We recently launched Rune II on the Epic Store and we hope that you’re enjoying the game and checking out the Rune II streams. We’re proud of what our talented team has created and encourage everyone to sail their longships in search of battle against the dark forces of Ragnarok.

However, Rune II will be the final game for Human Head Studios. After 22 great years of making games as an independent studio, economic realities have forced us to make the decision to wind down the company and close its doors. But while we are closing the book on Human Head, we are not closing the book on the amazing team we have assembled.

We wanted to do whatever we could to keep the team together and keep each member of our talented staff employed, right here at home. That’s when we reached out to Bethesda Softworks to see what might be possible. As a result, we are happy to announce that the development team from Human Head is becoming part of Bethesda as a new studio based in Madison, WI, called Roundhouse Studios. The entire staff has been offered new roles with Bethesda, and it’s exciting to know that our team, which has accomplished so much together, for so long, can continue doing what we love.

This is an incredible opportunity for our small but industrious clan of developers to embark on a new chapter of game development as members of the Bethesda family. With their support and resources, we look forward to creating great game experiences for many years to come.

We want to thank all of you for your support over the last 22 years. Your passion and excitement for games is what has driven and motivated us for many, many years. We’re really excited for what the future holds for us and we hope you join us on this new adventure.

Bethesda being flaky with funds during Prey 2 development (trying to starve them so they'll be more accepting of an acquisition) ended up crippling the studio and is partly why they're now doing desperate shit like releasing a goddamned survival crafting game in 2019.

Here's a good video on it:

Can't have been very high expectations if the game already exceeds 'em just from being on the EGS. Then again it's only sensible considering it's a fucking open world crafting survival game.
