P.sure there is configuration utility in game directories when you install DOS game from GOG
i googled a bit and D-Fend seems to be popular. maybe there's a torrent already made with packages of dos games pre-configured, along with the dosbox emulator and a modern Front-end. must google some more.
got that package, two words - theizo hunt

I hadn't tried it, I'll give it a quick look.

EDIT: Gave it a try. It seems to run like it's upgraded, but checking the GOG forums it seems that it isn't. It could be that it "only" has the rare 1.1 patch and not the AESOP/32 upgrade.

I also saw one GOG forum post which made me think that the GOG-version is unpatched. But maybe they have updated the package?

Downloaded the runtime.zip from here:
http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=20601

AESOP.EXE
DOS4GW.EXE
INTERP.EXE
A32ADLIB.DLL
A32MT32.DLL
A32SBDG.DLL
A32SPKR.DLL
MCGA.DLL

The GOG-versions has these exact files included. Abandonware versions mostly don't.

One abandonware version has an EYE.RES file which is just 4.2 megs. I patched the EYE.RES file and it outputted a 6.5 megabyte file which isn't exactly the same size as the GOG-version but close. The EYE.RES file contains datestamps so they might not be comparable even if they're the same size. The patched EYE.RES still has AESOP/16 identifier in the beginning of the file.

The unpatched abandonware version was noticeably slower in menus and especially slow when loading saved games. The GOG-version seems to run even too fast on default DOSBox-settings but it's also surprisingly demanding for a DOSBox game even on a modern computer.

The two most obvious lag-points in an unpatched EotB 3 is when loading a save game and when casting a spell with a projectile like Fireball. My test of the GOG version didn't show either of those, but I haven't run an exact comparison yet.

If anyone has succeeded in installing and playing these Amiga versions of EOB I'd be grateful for detailed instructions for dummies on how to install them using Workbench 3 and Amiga Forever.

I just got the packages from http://hobring.esero.net/games.htm and had a blast with them last month. Pretty much no configuration necessary, but some tweaking with display modes did enhance the experience for me.

After a good night's sleep and an aspirin I tried this, and despite instructions looking potato to me it actually worked!
Thanks! :salute: :bro:

BTW, any suggestions on tweaking?
I assume it's the info.ini file that needs to be edited? Mine looks like this:

Code:
[info]
fullname=Eye Of The Beholder AGA 1.09
hwb=1.00
slave=0.20

[special]
;cpu_speed=1536
;gfx_center_horizontal=none
;gfx_center_vertical=none
;keyboard=kbd1
;immediate_blits=false
Necroing this thread but I am currently installing a bunch of my favorite old school RPGs
I tried the link here but it looks like a russian site and I understand nothing... anybody can share those Amiga versions, a good emulator and some tips on how to run these?

First version of an automapper for EOB3:
http://personal.inet.fi/koti/jhirvonen/ase3/

Btw. have you tried the GOG-version of EOB3? It seems that it is already AESOP/32-patched. The EYE.RES file is about 6.5 megabytes and the DOSBox version is 0.73.
Yes Octavius I did that but couldnt wait so I installed the GOG versions late nite

Joonas I got your automaper installed for EoB 1 and apparently the program found my character’s names but then it says the characters were not found in memory and the adjust the search engine...so what am I doing wrong?

Edit Ok I got it to work (fucking fantastic program btw) but the automap isnt showing properly, it shows half the map, what do I need to resize it?

Hi everyone. I'm doing some research on minimum and maximum of HP at character generation [depending on CON bonus], first in AD&D 2e, then comparing it to EOB1 (and then EOB2 if there is a difference). I'm not interested in EOB3 atm. Can you direct me to a discussion on the subject or possibly discuss it here?

Constitution bonus to Hit Points per level (up to level 9/10):
Code:
Constitution score HP bonus
         3 -2
         4-6 -1
         7-14 0
         15 +1
         16 +2
         17 +2 (+3 for fighters/paladins/rangers)
         18 +2 (+4 for fighters/paladins/rangers)

Hit Points per level (up to level 9/10):
Code:
Hit points Classes
   1d10 Fighter, Paladin, Ranger
   1d8 Cleric, Druid
   1d6 Thief, Bard
   1d4 Mage, Specialist Wizard

Thanks for that.
And what about generating multi-class characters?
What about "generating" characters of higher levels (as in EOB1/2)? I was told it goes as "generate a character with 0 XP then go through the level-up procedure as many times as necessary".
I'm confused about what is written in the Player's Handbook as it is somewhat ambiguous. How to interpret "The character's Constitution bonus is split between his classes; [...] A fighter/mage/thief would get 1/3 of his bonus when he goes up as a fighter"?

Dwarf fighter could go up to 19 con for +5hp/level.
Oh and in 1st ed a ranger would 2d8 (or was it 2d6?) at first level. Don't know if that applies to EoB.

I'm still looking for another discussion or someone who can clarify it deeper.
Also, what is the official agreement on the name of Dorhum/Dohrum? There are too many appearances for both. "Ileira" is another I'm curious about.

In EOB3, what is Morning's Light (the little red orb) for? I can't find anything online that tells me this! I have just finished a play through and feel like I am missing out!

My sources don't say anything about it. Either its effect upon the game is passive or it does nothing at all. Delmair mentioned it sometime during the game though.

Thanks for the quick reply! That’s where I got to with it - couldn’t equip it to a body part and seems to do nothing in the hand.

I’d thought it would be like Silvias in first game / star fire wand in second game, but no idea. It’s mentioned on some signs too I think?

I'm still trying to figure out what the Starfire wand does in the second game (besides acting a key once). "Mystic Defense" doesn't really tell me anything.
