Those POE videos perfectly captures everything wrong with Diablo clones.
No Diablo clones are like current state of PoE. Not even D3 with its multi million damage numbers over enemy heads as you one shot them all.

PoE is a build porn game where you then one shot 2 screens worth of mobs if you are good at it.

We all hope that upcoming PoE 2 will move away from that and more into how D2 plays.

That's a vain hope. I think by now it looks completely unrealistic that they will be doing that. Which is a damned shame. It's the number one, clear main problem with PoE and it's why I enjoyed my recent replay of D2 so much, even if it doesn't have the content width to keep me playing as much as PoE does.

There are 2 different issues.

1. Killing too fast, zoom zoom gameplay, which they tried their best and managed to replicate in D3. That's the main issue for me and I doubt PoE will do much about it. Since PoE is the leader D4 will follow with same issue.

2. Overdone spell effects, issue that is exacerbated in PoE by auto procs and high attack speed. This might get fixed when their staff learns some humility (1000s particles on screen needs to be seen as a problem to solve, not a challenge to implement efficiently). But they realized high speed needs different character animations to not feel clowny. So maybe they make the connection to high amount of particles on screen.

I'm thinking of picking up D2:LoD. Is it worth playing in 2019, despite the lack of an enhanced edition? I played D3 and thought it was fun for a few hours before things got repetitive.
Beware that the online lags like shit now, at least on the EU. You're likely to not find (m)any online rooms either atm, but there will be a ladder reset soon-ish so it should become active for another few weeks before d2jspfaggots ruin it again. That is if you even intend to play it online.

IF you wanna play online, i recommend path of diablo. Has some things that i dislike like CDs, but in general the gaem is far more stable and with much less bot BS.

For official servers, play on classic. Not LOD. There are less people but also less booters

This is why when one wants to play D2 online you play Path of Diablo instead. It has no bots and hacks.

Seriously guys, unless you are married to Median XL and similar mods, Path of Diablo is straight up superior version to vanilla D2. It even has Maps as endgame (t1 to t4) so you got stuff to do. And unless you live in Africa or Asia there are plenty of server available in your region.

This is why I said that you play D2 online after the ladder reset for the first 1-2 weeks. That's when it still has some legit rooms.

IF you wanna play online, i recommend path of diablo.
Not if it's his first time playing the game. Also not if you want a well thought out and more subtle ARPG experience instead of flashy over the top shit that ruined the genre. Wish I could have the PoD servers without the PoD design.

PoD does not have flashy over the top design of Path of Exile, it is just a superior and better balanced version od D2 vanilla with good online support and no bots and hackers. It does give a bit more power to the players early and gives you somewhat better drops but it puts even harder end game content that balances itself out.

I admit, my experience with PoD is only the first act. I didn't like how fast the power creep happened as I like it to be more granular as in D1&2. Maybe it evens out later and gets better, but the early game turned me off so I never stuck around to find out. I still wouldn't recommend a person try a mod that changes the game dramatically if they are asking if they should play a game that they have not experienced yet. I think it would ruin the mod too as you won't have any context for the changes.

I will admit that I've played D2 LoD last time 10 years ago but when I started playing PoD last week it didn't feel like Act 1 was much different. My character was just as scrappy and weak as I remember it.
You notice bigger stash in town and bigger inventory on your character. only later I read they give you player 8 item drop rates from the start but drops I got were not awesome or good so I didn't figure that out until I read about it online.
What did drop more is terrible crap equipment that I could not use (or even sell for anything worth carrying around).

Then I found out you can easily download and install a loot filter for PoD, I did that and I love it. None of this crap loot now shows up and I pick up only what is good and useful.

Not sure what you are facepalming about. More loot makes for more fun game. And loot filter is still useful with more or less loot drops as nobody really wants to see useless crap loot litter their screen.
D2 was not a perfect game at its time and it is not a perfect game now. Mod author implemented what he could to improve upon it without changing core gameplay or making it simpler.
Everything added was either to fix its problems or to make things even more complex.

Like teleport has a cooldown now. Necro also gets a teleport skill (with a cooldown) that also teleports all his mercs and summons next to him (perfect to keep your summoned units from desummoning when they are too far away due to their retard AI). Druid has a cooldown teleport as well where he uses Fire to teleport. Enigma is no longer BIS item for everyone as a result.

Edit: they also added corrupt orb which let you gamble on your end game gear to make it even more powerful or lose it (or nothing happens). You can only try once per item. If you didn't get wanted result you farm another such item.

Lots more fixes like these.

Play it before you facepalm.

:deathclaw::deathclaw::deathclaw:

also anyone already can have Teleport. items with charges have it.
which, naturally, trivializes big part of the game since necro with 20 summons teleporting with him is lolz.

More loot makes for more fun game.
yea Ima sure PoE devs thought as much.

the basic drops of D2 look like PoE with loot filter on "strict"; and that is because in D2 potions actually drop all the time. which is why game works.

I am sorry but you earned that rating now. I gave you benefit of the doubt that you might be just trolling but it seems you are not.

It's probably for the best tbh. The online ship has sailed for D2 and I only go and occasionally do a few runs with irl friends since none of us use bots.

Something-something about draq, shovels and trenches and game design.

U play your AAA version with +++loot and loot filter, I'm fine with vanilla, thx.

Enigma is no longer BIS item for everyone
enigma is item with +all skills, +45% run, multiple flat defensive boosts, strength boost and MF equal to specialized MF gear.
items like that should be scrapped alltogether even without teleport.

that's even not beginning discussion on cooldowns; and how spells in D2 were designed relying on mana, cast time and reduce caster rate modifier. adding cooldowns on top of existing system(s) is just unnecessary.

and playing game with unelegant problems solved by unelegant solutions just makes them stand out even more to me; like resting locked behind 5 loading screens in poe.

As I reached Act 3 Hell with my Bone Necro I started dying a lot. In Act 3 I could put it down to lack of concentration or laziness as those little fuckers that blow up as you kill them run up to me and I don't run away from them first but decide to kill them like a retard... but then in Act 4 I ran into a map with Lightning spamming Ghosts. Fuck, they 3 shot me. And if I run into a pack with hero and they all shoot I die instantly. This is with 61 % lightning res.. Of course Bone Wall does shit vs them as Lightning goes through everything :(
Then I run naked toward my corpse with -X lightning res and get 1 to 2 shot by same ghosts... When I finally got my body and items back I just ran away to next map. Luckily I didn't run into them again in Act 4 :D
And now Act 5... I found a pack of spitters with boss. They shoot at me as soon as I appear and kill me before I can react. Then I died 3 more times trying to get my body, running sideways did not help eh..
As I entered Act 3 Hell diff I had over 3 million gold, now I got 600 000 due to all this dying :D

decrepify is 4 yards. bone spells block your movement and don't help against gloams.

with DM you just click edge of the screen and can run past mobs if you want.
or just buy tele staff and skip act 3. only 600000 gold for recharging.

It does not block movement in PoD where Necro can also teleport like I said.

Decrepify + Clay golem = no boss or unique can move...

As for necro builds, one thing that i also hated about runewords is that they killed the bone necro builds. I mean, a lot of items who buffs poison damage comes, but none who buffs magical damage and reduce enemy resist, i saw a guy dealing 77k with a poiso necro skill(damage over time), one of the many problems of gear dependency is that if the devs don't put powerful gear for your build, your favorite build is not far weaker than previous ones... Diablo 1 - Diablo had 1666 hit points. Uber Diablo on D2 who was added to keep up with the damage inflation had 666k health.

--------------------------------

As for D3, the numbers on D3 are so inflated that they judge builds not by how fast they can clear chaos/baal (eg - if on average takes 6 minutes to do a baal run, a good build will take 4 minutes), but by how far they can push on GR and each GR and for those who doesn't know, the enemy heatlh and damage doubles each 4 GR, so a build capable of clearing GR 120 is 5 times stronger than a GR 100 build...
