What games did you complete in 2019?

Bard's Tale 1 (from Bard's Tale Trilogy)
I didn't like it nearly as much as I liked the Wizardry games, but it was pretty fun. I immediately transferred my party to BT2 and made it pretty far (I think I got the second or third piece of the Destiny Wand), but sort of lost interest. I'd like to finish 2 and 3 in 2020.

These games are better if you start with fresh characters IMO. The beginner dungeon of BT2 is one of the very best BT dungeons. And if you never run from battle your party will still be overpowered in the mid game of BT 2 and 3. If I were to replay them I'd definitely start using the Flee option even if it's against my instincts.

Started up to 10 of them, finished none. So, haven't finished not a single game this year :prosper:

Yet, the best game I've tried this year was Warhammer 2. Even though it isn't from this year :prosper: Try it, it is really really good :prosper:

One of the reasons I lost interest in BT2 is that even doing the "moderate" transfer from BT1 to BT2 leaves you so powerful that you are basically untouchable after the first dungeon. :(
This is even though I played BT1 "by the book" and saved only at the Adventurer's Guild (I started before the game had the old school options available...) and ALSO ran away from pretty much every encounter during the last dungeon.

I think the trilogy edition lets you do a "minimal" transfer that basically transfers nothing but your character's names and classes, so I might do that from 2 to 3.

Sekiro. Like, 5 times. The more I play it, the more I like it, the more I tried to challenge myself with it, even though I'm playing it on PS4 with a slight delay that became more noticeable with every playthrough. Had a 6th playthrough where I tried challenging myself by not upgrading *anything*, even Mikiri counter (except healing gourd) and not using prosthetic at all, but got sidetracked by ELEX!, which sadly left unfinished because of real life :negative:

Disco Elysium, twice in a row. First the big-brain, the next and the last one just recently the emo. If only real life would just stop for a minute and let me continue playing it, I would probably finish it like 5 times now :argh:

Underrail: Expedition, but only the Black Sea content once. Bloody DC finally took its toll on me :mixedemotions:

Mount & Blade, the original. I would say I 'completed' it because my army of 80++ got wiped out, my riches plundered and I got screwed big time I rage quit it entirely :butthurt:
I also had several Warband playthrough through various mods like Freelancer and Silverstag, but since they're probably considered unfinish-able, I would just say they're forgotten.

That's it. I probably finished a nth playthrough of Age of Decadence or two, because of how absurdly replayable that game is, but I can't remember when exactly.

There's so many more games I would love to play and probably finish once this year, like Kenshi, Stygian, and obviously ATOM. Unfortunately, my laptop is an old-ass ancient piece of rig that can't run them smoothly, so here I am left with games that's so light or so old my laptop can run them on silky-smooth 60 FPS like Underrail or Fallout, Arcanum, Gothic, and Bloodlines.

Edit: fuck, I forgot to mention Kingdom Come: Deliverance! Except I haven't finished it yet, because damn Sekiro is just so good I completely forgot to go on and finish KC:D. My PS4 also died on some point and I haven't re-install KC:D so there it is. Again, fucking real life....

Seems like there should be more, but I don't remember finishing any others. Most of the games I started this year I ended up dropping.

* = I've played this game before.

SOMA

*DOOM (UV, pistol starts)
CrossCode
Ghost of a Tale (No, wait, I didn't finish this. Half-way through the game my graphics card went kaputt. By the time the new card arrived I realized this game is boring and uninstalled it.)
Return of the Obra Dinn
*Hurrican (free Turrican remake)
Flower
*Overload (Insane+ again, and DLC. The DLC is shit, btw.)
*Snake Rattle 'n' Roll
Baba Is You
(
wtfamireading.png
)
*Prey (with RoSoDude's balance mod, a noticeable improvement)
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Stephen's Sausage Roll

*Donkey Kong Country Returns
Commander Keen
*4, 5 ,6
Grand Pigeon's Duty
(What am I doing?)
Pathologic 2 (GOTY
participationtrophy.png
)
Bubble Bobble Arcade (I hadn't played this version before. 1cc attempts. Game is hard. My record is round 79.)
*Metroid Prime 2 & 3 (PrimeHack version of Dolphin with proper mouse control)
Duke Nukem 3D - Alien Armageddon
Ion Maiden
(ogay game)
Outer Wilds
Celeste Farewell Chapter
Blood
(Lightly Broiled, no saves)
*Plok
*System Shock 2 (Impossible, OSA Agent)
*Undertale (True Pacifist)
Manifold Garden (lame puzzle design)
DOOM II - Eviternity (UV, pistol starts)
Disco Elysium (5 3 2 2 Apocalypse Cop)

Some games that were really high on my list but I didn't get around to for some reason or another:
La-Mulana 2. Can't bring myself to buy this. My gut is saying it's probably meh.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker. It seems to be a long game. Very long...
Unreal Evolution. Still waiting for Ash to release this mod. Soon.
Arcanum. lol

Not a single fucking game. I've not completed a game since Evil Within 1. I think that was back in like 2017, maybe.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker - everyone knows it.
Six Ages - as good as KoDP while it lasts, but far too short and ends abruptly. Needs to be about three times as big, which it hopefully will be with the other chapters.
Age of Decadence - everyone knows it.

Played a fair deal but either did not complete or they are not complete-able:
King's Bounty: Crossworlds - great game, but the perfectionism gets tedious and monotonous after a certain pretty distant point.
Europa Universalis 4 - the countries feel a bit generic and too many non-Western areas are too powerful. I intend to play it with a detailed mod later on.
Victoria 2 - possibly my top game in general, but I've played it so much there is nothing else left to do. The more unusual mods are too janky, though some are fun.
Endless Legend - played it a while ago and don't recall it too well. Perhaps too abstract and boardgamey, also too easy. Not bad, but strictly worse than Rise from Erebus.
Rise from Erebus (Civilization 4 modmod) - probably the golden standard for fantasy TBS. Atmospheric, huge, diverse factions, cultural geography emerges naturally, can be pretty challenging.
Mount and Blade: Warband - played it for a while before in other iterations. Still feels a bit like a beta, but the gameplay is great.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall - a bit underwhelmed. Nice setting, but restrictive and the combat system feels like a mobile game.
Elder Scrolls Online - great PvP and character building. Everything single-player-like is awful.
Drox Operative - fun combination of Diablo and Space Rangers. Unfortunately, success mainly depends on constant vigilance rather than good planning. Restarting is unpleasant, so replayability isn't very high.
Twilight Struggle (iPad) - nice implementation of the board game with the digital interface. The AI is reasonably competent. Oddly dependent on vigilance when you forget about the implications of some cards (bringing you to DEFCON 0 on your turn).

Some of that may have been at the very end of 2018, which strangely feels like a long time ago.

Solid game. Didnt like the ambientation, but very fun and rewarding combat system

Monster Hunter World - Completed all story and optional missions, except the HR100 one. Not suffering through multiplayer to grind HR.

The Outer Worlds - I-expected-nothing-and-I'm-still-let-down.jpg.

To be fair, these days I have more fun reading about vidya than playing.

Battle Brothers, if beating an endgame crisis at veteran difficulty on hardcore mode counts as "finishing." I lost interest after that in any case although I know there are still legendary sites to clear that I haven't hit.

The Dragon Age trilogy, for the first time ever; I hadn't even tried DA2 and my expectations were so low that I ended up enjoying it much more than I thought I would. Overall I left feeling better about them than before, which is admittedly a low bar to clear. Inquisition is almost tragic, there is an actual good game lurking somewhere in there underneath the whiz-bang combat, proc-gen items, collect and fetch quests and what have you.

Portal 2. I somehow never got around to playing it until now. It was a hoot.

Disco Elysium obviously (twice).

There's a whole bunch more that I played partway through or tooled around in, some of them old favourites, others shit I was curious about. By far the most hours went into Kerbal Space Program but that's not a game you ever finish so I can't list it here.
