Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Beamdog are a blessing from the RPG Gods. Once you accept this fact all will become clear.

They're still patching and updating Baldur's freaking Gate. Give them some credit. Who else would undertake these projects? No one was lining up to enhance these classic RPGs. They are doing the work to keep these games relevant and useful for the newer generation. You can only respect that.

Yeah the newer generation now associate BG with a Switch port you need a microscope to play, assuming it doesn't lock up first.

Next, Beamdog changes focus from games to other stuff and rewrites Shakespeare's plays to make them relevant again

I kinda hope they are still working on a secret RPG or trying to make IWD2 if they still have that many employees left. But wonder if they will switch for NWN2 if they finished with NWN1 instead, hope not.

They are officially moved on from remaster business. Console release (and post-release support including PC patches) is the finale. They intend to work on their own games now.

The source code for IWD2 has been lost.

More like it's too much work to implement 3rd edition rules in their EE engine, so they came up with that lame ass bullshit excuse.

Oh yea, we have the source code for Icewind Dale and PST, both from the same developer, and both older then IWD2, but somehow lost the IWD2 code. Yea. Sure.

beamdog is like a cheap modern remake of classic movie that actually manages to convince imdb to change the original movie's page (and associated reviews/rating) to imply it's actually about the nu-shit; it's brazen fraud not even hollywood exces are bold enough to commit (yet) - thank you, canada!

at least now we know why the US annexation of their northern neighbors as depicted in the Fallout intro is about shooting a dude in the back of the head and waving merrily for the camera - it's actually Trent Oster smoked out of hiding

There is no imdb equivalent for RPGs. Note that metacritic maintains separate entries for the original and the EEs. Wikipedia articles also make clear which version of the game they are talking about. The gaming wikis are indeed a mess, though, and cannot be trusted as an authoritative source for the originals.

If you're talking about GoG's removal of the originals as a separate purchase, then that is indeed unfortunate, because it means someone who just wants the originals has to purchase the EEs, it means that Beamdog get their name in lights, and it means the ratings/stats are bundled together and no one knows what's what.

But bitching about Beamdog won't get you anywhere: they have convinced 99% of people that their versions are the best. Almost all communities, all commentators and all modders are decidedly pro-EE.

My blog is an island paradise in this sea of shit in that none of my retrospectives/pro-tip write-ups are EE-based.

I thought Steam removed the originals but GOG decided to bundle it with the EE to still give access to the originals or something.

You can read about it here. Basically, Beamdog PR issued an apology in relation to inadvertently misleading GoG customers as to the reason for the removals of the originals as separate purchases.

Why wouldn't you? You get money for doing nothing, so you can focus on more productive things in your life while being financially secure.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
It's not RPG-exclusive but pretty good at cataloguing games of all genres.

Of course, it's missing some of the games collected in the "Really Obscure RPGs" thread here. :M
