WE'RE BACK!

Let me tell you - ever since the Kickstarter ended the Subverse team has been on an insane schedule to make this game happen with the quality you deserve and we demand of ourselves, so getting to spend the holidays fornicating with our brand new Fow-chan gifted Onaholes was a gloriously sticky blessing that left us all feeling refreshed and focused for 2020.

That doesn't mean we haven't been working however, so here's a big meaty update on what happened during the last month!

SEXY PURPLE SPACE DWARF
Here's a preview of Princess Sovalin Maliana (aka Sova)!

In terms of gameplay, Sova fills the paladin archetype quite nicely. Even though she's typically stacked short against her competition, she'll be able to tank and spank enemies hard while also providing some protection for her troops.

In terms of plot, Sova fills the role of your best manic-depressive, sex and violence and booze-addicted drinking buddy quite nicely as well. Her recruitment storyline is absolutely insane with huge parody scenes that deliver big laughs along with some high-octane fisticuffs.

And in terms of the rest of our model production, we're doing a fantastic job and finished up the rest of the "bang-able" cast. Look forward to more previews soon...

MS. JANUARY - CALENDARS ARE COOMING
What's that? You want even MORE sexy waifu pictures?

GREAT NEWS, PERVERTS - calendars will be released on the 18th of January!

This calendar will be the first time our dedicated Space Cadets will be seeing most of the Subverse waifus wearing much less than their default outfits, so we hope you all enjoy a delicious 2020 as you flip and fap through the pages. It will come in color and monochromatic editions!

HERE THERE BE BOSS FIGHTS
We know you've all been wanting more gameplay in the open beta, so that's exactly what we're giving you. On January 28th, prepare yourselves for the first SHMUP boss fight of Subverse...an intense and potentially deadly confrontation with a sinister figure from Killision's past - Dread Lord Tibold!

Without getting too far into SPOILERS territory, Tibold is the first major antagonist you'll be introduced to in the game. The Captain may or may not have done something to supremely piss him off (sorry, not sorry) and now his entire pirate fleet is out for revenge.

FRESH NERDS
When it comes to news about our fantastic programmers, we aren't stopping there!

I'm proud to formerly announce two more throbbing members of the Subverse team that have been with us for more than few months now - Mrs. Mankrik and Professor BANG.

Together, they have 200+ years of collective game design and Unreal Engine 4 experience and have been an insanely valuable asset to them team thus far.

Here they are to tell you a little bit about the work they've been doing for Subverse:

THE DIS & THAT OF UE4
"Hello, everyone. I'm Mrs. Mankrik. Kristoff told me to write something sexy and witty for this section to introduce myself. However, I only care about programming all day, so I did not.

Subverse is a story-driven game with a large script. In that regard, we faced the problem of wanting to find a unique way to efficiently tell the story without needing to spend thousands of hours polishing lip syncing or rely entirely on simple sprites like many RPGs.

The resulting solution is what we like to call the Dialogue Input System, or simply 'DIS.'

DIS essentially makes installing the script's dialogue so simple that even someone without any programming experience can use it with ease.

You can set up scenes quickly by selecting the location along with the characters present and then input their respective lines and accompanying voice acting.

DIS also allows the user to manually change facial expressions along with body language in a far less tedious manner. In combination, these parameters of manipulation give us access to endless unique expressions with less than a dozen or so base animated poses.

Here is an example of DEMI with the parameters above utilized:

DIS also supports installing multiple characters in a scene. This is where we see the "look-at logic" is most valuable.

We're also able to add SFX to the character models themselves, which gives us the ability to accurately portray how the character is taking part in the conversation. For example, you can see what characters look like when communicating through a holoterminal below. We are also able to express the quality and type of connection with a variety of SFX. Even the color and intensity of each effect can be customized with DIS.

OPTIMIZATION PRIME
"Greetings! Professor BANG here to show you how we optimize the characters for Subverse!

We have three different versions of every important character:

1.) Pandora/Sex scenes

2.) Dialogue

3.) Grid Combat

You can see the three versions of the models below, from left to right:

For Pandora/Sex scenes, we need the characters in their juiciest, most detailed, highest form! But of course that means needing more power and we know that some of you play games on potatoes, so we still optimized them as much as we could.

For Dialogues we have more tame, less detailed versions of the characters. Don't worry, they are still awesome and beautiful, but they don't have anything that you don't need for a regular - maybe a bit spicy - conversation.

For Grid Combat, we went for the low-poly look and recreated the characters to have the most basic complexity.

'Oh no' - I hear you say - 'Don't ruin my waifus!' Don't worry pal, they are still looking mighty fine, mostly because we'll only see them from afar, but the characters still have their best features visibly intact (yes, such as boobies and butts).

Other than the characters, I am also working on the game's environments to improve performance, such as the grid combat maps themselves and the rooms of the Mary Celeste.

I'm very proud to be a part of this team, and I will continue working hard to make sure as many perverts as possible can enjoy this fine space fuck titty game.

DOS ANIMADORES
AND THAT'S NOT ALL! We've also recruited two very talented new animators to help us out with everything the DIS system can't handle, which is all of the cutscenes.

The first is a man known only as the French Cockerel, who brings AAA experience and hopefully Baked Camembert to the team. This upstanding gentleman is going to be helping us in particular with establishing and executing a brand new mocap pipeline for us, which should significantly reduce the amount of scenes we need to animate by hand.

The second is Sugar Rae, a man with numerous network television credits to his name that was so desperate to break into the gaming industry that he actually applied to work for Studio FOW. How adorable! We will be slowly breaking him over time by assigning tasks like the grind that is character emotion idles for the dialogue system along with posing and sychronizing thousands of ships for the grand space battles we have planned.

NEW ROADMAP WHEN?
Our old roadmap is out of date with the changes to our release strategy, so we'll be putting a new one together for release most likely at the start of next month once all of our major pipelines are established.

This will give a much clearer picture of how far we are into creating Subverse and how far we have left to go before you can all enjoy the depravity we've created.

Honestly, I've been pretty impressed with everything post-kickstarter, from their messaging to their gameplay reveals to even the irreverent consistency in tone in their updates. It's a porn/SHMUP game, but larger studios could still learn something from them in terms of post-kickstarter marketing and community engagement.

A few months ago I had to make a custom EQ preset in VLC player to listen to Imaginos without bleeding from my ears, the digital version of which featuring highs boosted to the seventh heaven for some reason (maybe sounds better with speakers that way?)

Back on topic, the calendar has no visible nipples and vaginae. The disappointment is crushing but I think I should be able to recover from it given time. I've called my mother.

Beta Update - LIVE & SHMUPTACULAR
If you're reading this and you're a Big Bang Theorist (pledge of £75 or more), you can now download and experience the very first boss battle of Subverse featuring the ever-dickish Lord of the Dread Fleet, Tibold!

Our SHMUP specialist HungryJJ slaved over a hot PC for weeks to bring you this close encounter. Making a boss fight casual enough that hopefully every pervert with one hand can complete it whilst also being fun for bullet-hell vets is no easy task, but we tried our best to balance the curve.

We're wide open for you to give us as much of your thick, hard feedback as possible! You guys did a great job last time with the beta and several of your suggestions were actually implemented in the new build.

Remember, there's a function in the upper left corner of the beta to make a playtest report of either general feedback or bugs. Choose one and type away! Please try and keep it brief and concise.

Fow-chan will absolutely LOVE spending weeks chained to her desk sorting through all of the data, so don't be afraid to use it!

Fow-chan serves as the final waifu and super somewhat secret ultima-Überboss of Subverse. She's immensely powerful, even compared to the main quest waifus. Discover and defeat Fow-chan and she will allow you to spray your fluids all over her demonic contract and enjoy her loyal servitude.

She also comes with her own special recruitment and loyalty quests straight from the twisted mind of DC himself. They're meta, completely ridiculous, and you're gonna have a great time playing them. And of course this is but a taste of her many forms...expect her to walk amongst human-kind soon as well.

Calendars
All of our Space Cadets (pledge of £20 or more) should now have their calendars delivered. If you have not, please follow the usual protocol for Kickstarter deliverables:

1.) Make sure you're qualified for the reward.

2.) Check your SPAM folders. No...SERIOUSLY. Check ALL of your filtered e-mail client folders. We've found this happens quite often. And by quite often we mean the vast majority of the time.

3.) Make sure there is no typo on your registered Kickstarter e-mail address.

4.) Join our Discord and DM Fow-chan herself for assistance. This is absolutely the best way to contact us so we can sort it out for you.

New Character Pages
And when it comes to new models, make sure you check out the CHARACTERS section on our website - we've put up new pages for Sova and Dallick as well as revealed one the main villains - Blythe (aka the Corrupt General). She's an important character in Subverse that even leads her own faction, so we hope you all enjoy theorycrafting the plot from the information we've provided in her bio.

While you're there, you might as well get an eyeful of the Captain's new business casual duds. Oh, and if you check our twitter, there might be some juicy space dwarf ass to slobber over.

The Botts that doth Fucceth
But it's not just character models on display today...get a load of these bad boys our SHMUP expert HungryJJ hacked together himself from various sex toys discarded by Fow-Chan.

It's time to meet the Fuccbotts! These rogue A.I. constructs are one of the five major enemy factions that can be fought in both grid and space combat. The Mary Celeste will have an unfortunate close encounter with them relatively early in the script, but unraveling their nefarious origins is one of the great mysteries of Subverse.

The focus of this chaotic, horny hive mind is to swarm the player and overwhelm with their numbers and deadly, personal-space invading close-quarters attacks.

You ever take a supercharged cock lightsaber to the face? No? Well...GET READY, FUCKERS!

Expect to see these guys in the closed beta relatively soon.

Beta BOSS Feedback
We'd also like to once again thank everyone that pledged to take part in the closed beta that is also providing us with excellent feedback. We're parsing over the data from the last boss fight, but overall it seems like a success. The majority of concerns focused on the last phase's design not being as well-implemented as the first two and Tibold's difficulty being slightly too high for a first boss, so we'll see what we can do about that.

Environments
Bringing this big, perverted galaxy to life has been no easy task, but our modeling team has been working hard putting together the backdrops environments that we'll be telling the story of Subverse in!

We're currently working on finishing up the last of the major set pieces that appear consistently throughout the story. Here's a sweet WIP shot of the Holy Imperium Palace where you can find Empress Celestina sitting her fine ass upon the throne, ruling over all of Prodigium.

All up in this CODEX
With a sexy space opera epic of this scale, we've been up to our elbows in lore since the start. Organizing all of the information has been a hell of a task, but now our in-game Codex is looking mighty fine. You'll be able to access it at any time to read up on additional lore for every single major and minor item in the game once you've unlocked their corresponding entries through progress.

The Codex also been a blessing for all of the staff working on the game as we use it for reference and for getting newer members up to speed on the universe.

Oishī Manga
Did someone say comic books??? We cannot stress enough just how boner-riffic these goddamn manga are turning out to be. We also want to remind you that they will be made available to EVERYONE as a thank you for meeting the stretch goal.

Here you can see a lovely preview of Fortune enjoying some ice cream. DC will have more news on the manga in the coming updates once he emerges from the hell that is the localization room.

New Roadmap
The next dev diary is going to be a big one, going into depth about our 2020 strategy with a comprehensive roadmap marking the target dates we intend to hit for every major milestone throughout the rest of the year.

Dallick in Trouble
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the mechanic?

Getting Dallick to join the Mary Celeste's crew is no easy task, meaning you're gonna have to protect him from a bot menace of the fucky variety that seeks to penetrate his Keisterstation in an rather uninvited and rude manner.

As is customary, this mission will by published to the closed beta along with our next Dev Diary on March 28th, 2020.

Monsters & Grids
We've been getting a lot of requests to reveal more of the manticores, so ladies and gentlemen...meet the mighty CORNHOLIO!

Per our codex, "The only drawback to this deadly ass-assin is the fact that you can smell him coming from a mile away. However, once he is in range, there is no escape."

Now, now...I know you're probably thinking "Oh, Studio FOW! You guys are too much!"

But come on! It's not like we made one of the most powerful manticores in the game a giant pile of...

...oh. Hmm...

ANYWAYS! Preparing grid combat for its big debut in the closed beta has been a priority for us as of late, so we've been focusing on getting the animations right for our high-performance, low-poly models and installing some quality UI for maximum tactical excellence.

Teelee Culture 101
Remember when we talked about Sova's recruitment mission? It's time to reveal a few details about teelee culture to give you an idea of what kind of parody we had in mind.

For starters, if there's one thing a cutesy, diplomatic, easy-going race of space dwarves absolutely loves...it's a good old fashioned deathmatch!

Welcome to the Teerena - home to the Teelee Fighting Championship, which is the premier league for intergalactic bloodsports in all of Prodigium. Sova's dreamed of reaching the rank of Grandmaster for many years, and there's only one way you can help her get there...

And what else would you expect from these lovable shortstacks than being responsible for the most popular category of cock-teasing idol music in the galaxy: T-Pop!

Yours truly has been busy writing a song to represent the genre in-game, and we'll be completing the final track with the help of a talented composer and several of Subverse's actresses who will lend their voices!

COVID-19 Precautions
As you all know, the Coronavirus is having a massive impact on our planet. Entertainment companies of all kinds are feeling the repercussions, and we are doing everything we can to make sure Subverse's development will not be affected. We work mainly in a remote environment so our team members are able to isolate at home and keep safe. We also have lodgings in a remote area in southern Europe where we are able to work together if needed. Currently I am here with the director, and a couple of devs will be joining us soon and hunkering down until the storm passes. Canned beans and brown rice, here we come!
