There's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion on the debate of adding turn-based mode, but if it's just to re-hash what's already been stated earlier then it's just wasting mouse scroll wheel mileage.

This...this is actually a good defence of rtwp. I prefer turn based, but totally see your point, man. But in old games (like arcanum for instance) you disliked turn based as well?

I played Arcanum as a mage and rtwp worked out fine. I mostly spammed fireball at anything that moved. I've never disliked turn based, I even enjoyed DOS 1 and 2. I just prefer rtwp because it always felt more intense and strategic to me.

Do you think they read our comments, Owlcat I mean. They read my comments about monks. Both on 4chan, and kickstarter.

Okay, jokes aside, this is really derailing the thread.

This is the thread now. Let people talk, you guys crying that everybody isn't taking about what you want to is derailing the thread. In this thread we talk about decline, rtwp/TB and monks in between announcements.

Hey Pink Eye let's get this thread back on track
What is the coolest mount for a Sohei? Also what would be a good multiclass to get an Animal Companion mount as a Sohei since they don't get one as a class feature? Druid or Ranger makes sense since they use Wis I suppose but Sohei/Cavalier could be cool too.

I actually have no idea. I consider most of the monk archetypes to be gimmicks, except for a very small handful. Sohei is interesting primarily because of mounted combat, but we have no idea how exactly monk combat will work with mounts. Or how they will even implement mounts into the game.

What actually happens in turn based is my mage is smartly positioned and is a ranged class so the troll never reaches them and then I have 6 characters to react to it before it ever even gets another chance.

Your spell range will either be in the same range as a move action and a single attack from the troll, or the troll will snuggle up to your mage and threaten your next move/action. You can, of course, prolong the inevitable by using a single 5feet movement but only for a single turn, because he can and will do the same on his next turn.

The troll doesn't get an attack of opportunity on the fighter that followed it because it entered it's threat range but never left it.

The enemies still engaged with your front will have opportunity attacks on the front-character that moves back to save the mage.

6 characters is usually enough to kill it and if not my mage can always retreat. And then you have DOS2 where my mage has a shield and 2 health bars and any enemy's single attack doesn't even register as a threat.

The fuck are you talking about a different game and system? I don't give a shit about DOS2 :D

I think RTWP is a much more intense than TB. Also there's no such thing as infinite attack of opportunities in any RTWP game I've played.

In real-time: If you move the mage away from the enemy that is trying to engage him/her, you can have a character that simultaneously is engaging the moving enemy; instigating at least one attack of opportunity every six seconds (infinitely until the enemy dies).

Edit: This all happens in pf:k's RT vs TB, just so nobody butthurt thinks that this discussion is out of relevance about RTwP and TB in WotR and the necessity for TB to be in it.

Well sure but like, in theory/based on PnP Pathfinder rules is all I meant. Obviously it's too early to make any practical builds before the Alpha even comes out.

Personally I think a Sohei/Cavalier with a polearm or staff, mounted on a Giant Tortoise or Axebeak, sounds pretty cool. :incline:

I was reading about the cavaliers of the order of dragon. And it sounds pretty hype being a monk riding a big dragon. While wielding a quarter staff. Imagine your mount blowing fire at enemies, while your monk does kung fu shit!

It is still better argument than the TB fanatics could come up with. I haven't seen an argument for TB outside of personal insults.
Man I never insulted you at all, I just pointed out that the game is based on rules designed around taking turns, then you called those rules "retarded shit" so don't wonder why people quit making an effort to explain things to you
Ahhh i never said that you did. Why did you assume that i was talking about you? Your arguments were irrelevant because you were talking about the table top game and we were talking about a game that is made for computer. Also i still believe that my concerns of syphoning resources from other areas and the game ending up a buggy mess with balance problems because of TB implementation, are still valid.

Well yeah you did man. You said "the only arguments I got were personal insults" and I gave you arguments so based on your statement you were calling those personal insults, don't you know how a Venn diagram works?

Again, no, because they are the same rules. They are just as relevant as AD&D rules are relevant to Infinity Engine games (which is 100% relevant). Do you really think that D&D is irrelevant to the IE games?

OK, I don't believe that because Owlcat straight-up said that they had TB combat already in the works even before the kickstarter and that they were using the mod as a basis (which is 90% of the work).

LoL curb your ego mate,i was quoting a very different person and was making more of statement about him being snowflake and trying to play the victim card. You even quoted my original post,i has nothing to do with "the only arguments I got were personal insults". Learn to read in between the fine lines,i was not talking about you at all.

I believe that those games are very different from the computer ones because of possibilities and restrictions of their respected platforms. I do believe that purists do hold CRPGs back with their obsession with the TB system and the fatefulness to the rulebook. I believe that the games should be adapted in the best possible way for the system that hey are made for.

They were saying that Kingmaker was ready on release but it had even bugs that prevented you from finishing. Words are cheap,i care for the end result. I do believe that TB is a waste of money and resources, just in the name of pandering to a very vocal minority. I do believe that games made for TB should be made solely for TB and ones made for RTwP should be made solely for RTwP. I do enjoy RPGs in all of their genres, but i don't enjoy the constant whining of a bunch of old authists that want to convert everything in to a TB game.

It's got nothing to do with "ego" man I was just literally quoting you, maybe say what you mean if you want people to know what you mean

OK that's fair enough but that doesn't make the rules "irrelevant" when they're the basis for the whole game, same as D&D rules are the basis for the Infinity Engine games so those are relevant to discuss in relation to each other.

Right but when KM came out they didn't even have an engine built. They do now. The new only thing they have announced that might cause bugs is mounted combat. They also are going to keep RTWP as their design philosophy so TB is just a bonus, it is still designed to be RTWP.
I don't know if you played the TB mod (probably not) but if it is similar to that then everyone will be happy. I mean fuck it's not like people are going around saying the TB mod ruined their RTWP experience and if anyone said that then I hope they would be dismissed as a big gay retard.

That is fair, tho i don't like the idea of resources going for a TB system when the idea of the game is RTwP. Wouldn't have minded if it was added later on as DLC or mod to the game. As you said, there is apparently a TB mod for kingmaker,i don't really care about it or have a problem with it.
Anyway it is pointless to continue in this vain. I have raised my concerns and worries about the whole thing, and we won't know if they are well found or not, till the release date.
