I maxed out the freighter for 700k. It's cheap on fuel, only 1 per AU and has good armor. I have the Titan in the drydock now and the best engine for it uses 3 fuel per AU.

In ship combat, there are three skills that increase damage and protection. Most ships cannot even land a hit with that.

As to ground combat, you just need high level people, especially sniper and swordsman.

Do people actually play this on hard with permadeath "the way it is intended"? Seems like a colossal waste of time given how time-consuming everything is and how random it is. The difficulty comes from not proceeding very slowly in a game that is already excruciatingly slow because of the clunky interface. I.e., if you decide to fly long distance instead of stopping at a planet every 20 seconds as I pointed out above, you quickly run out of auto-wins and the game hits you with some random huge damage to morale, which prompts your most irreplaceable specialist like e-tech to leave.

Starting over is distinctly not fun, unlike in actual rogue-likes. You have to click through the dialogues all over again, distribute a ton of skill points all over again, do the basic FedEx quests again, etc. Yet there's no real difference due to randomisation. It's a traditional game that pretends to be a roguelike in order to artificially inflate its difficulty (in contrast to e.g. Pathfinder: Kingmaker, which just has difficult fights).

I keep giving it a second try because it seems the underlying mechanics are good, but it's just a depressing funnel for time on permadeath. You spend 10 hours only to lose them to some boring random rubbish that you didn't notice because you were a bit tired rather than some notable opponents or anything of the sort. Then you start over and do the same thing again. It's a bit like Battle Brothers on steroids.

For me the permadeath/roguelike aspect of the game is more for playing a specific built without paying attention to / ignoring the storyline. Personally I think the game is best played as a traditional rpg without the roguelike element.

But these are really slow, if you are on a tight schedule (taking many missions, doing story vignettes) thats a downside.

I do agree that there doesn't seem to be much you can spent your money on once you've gotten some success. Like, I am not that far into the game (third era has just begun), I have the ship of my choice maxed with everything that I wanted and now ..? There seems to be little to work towards little to late game other than amassing a large amount of monies?

its me saying it so you should react like if dalailama, pope, putin and trump together showed at your doorstep to tell you how to live your life.

I played on highest diff, permadeath. Small crew. This game is meant to be played in deterministic way. "Oh no I was screwed by RNG". No, it means your luck finally depleted. You are meant to play like if each challenge was to be failed.
If you cant afford faction to be hostile, dont. Spend some time and keep everyone at least neutral.
If you cant fight xeno - dont. If you dont collect rumors its on you that you encountered them. You should get skip the void fairly quick.
Avoid sectors you would need to spend too many get out of jail cards on. Btw those cards work even on scripted mission encounters. I was able to harbor furgitive for a long time and casually continue flying around while avoiding bounty hunter.

Once you realize you were playing rng game instead of deterministic one, you will be able to enjoy high diff
One question: how many hours did you spend on it?

RNG must lead to interesting diversity in restarting. For example, in Civilization your strategy is highly contingent on geography and starting resources, and these vary a lot from one game to another. Early exploration and adaptation is one of the most fun parts because that's when you devise your strategy. In ADOM, a lot depends on your starting equipment and attributes, and you can do many different things early on. I do not see much diversity in Frontiers start. You just do the same quest line over and over, unless you want to ignore the big rewards at your peril. It's the same issue as with Battle Brothers on permadeath. You have to sit through the tedium for hours to get going.

This is automatic incline since this is one of the very few games that looks like it was designed for Android, and actually has a fucking Android version. And no microturdactions.

Major Milestone "CATALYST" and 45% off sale to celebrate
Adding new Scientist Job, new Intel type and raising Level Cap
2667dad929903d326b824dbce0f655806c9011c4.jpg

With Update #232 we're hitting another major milestone, dubbed SCIENCE with huge raft of new content, a new playstyle to chase and a 12% raise to the maximum level cap.

Major Milestone CATALYST introduces the Scientist who can fill the iconic position aboard your starship as your Science Officer or perhaps your xenobiologist or part time xeno hunter. Your Scientist eagerly seeks the unknown -- and in the void the unknown is inexorably intertwined with the dangerous. Along with the Scientist comes an entirely new type of Scientific Intel that can be gathered when encounter xeno, exploring, salvaging or traveling space under terribly conditions such as Radiation Storms.

This Milestone also raises the level cap from 40 to 45 and all jobs have had their max level expanded from 32 to 36. This is a major new infusion of Skill points for everyone and up to 2 new Talents for both Captain and Officers.

And if you haven't seen it, we're excited to be sharing our upcoming turn-based tactical RPG, Cyber Knights: Flashpoint which will be coming to Steam in 2021. Mixing elements of stealth, hacking and tactical combat with deep RPG elements and base building, you'll want to Wishlist today if you haven't already. If you didn't know, now you know.

Scientist Job and Scientific Intel
Major Milestone CATALYST comes with a new Job, but not just any new Job -- the highest community requested, the venerable and respected Scientist or Science Officer, if you chose to promote. The Scientist is a powerful supporting character bringing Doctor, Explorer and Command Skills to the ship. From a Talent perspective, the Scientist can play in both Orbital Salvage and Explorer, knocking out and replacing risk cards or boosting results.

But where the Scientist truly shines is in the discovery and capture of a new type of data -- Scientific Intel. Startling observations, dangerous new concepts, recorded anomalies, encounters with the other can all produce Scientific Intel when cast through the lens of a trained eyed -- the eye of the Scientist. The Scientists Talents and 5 new cards added across Salvage and Explorer can impart this valuable and dangerous knowledge in the form of Scientific Intel.

Like espionage-based Intel, this Scientific Intel is highly prized by Contacts and 14 Contacts will now buy Scientific Intel, including 5 of the Starting Contacts. Mostly, these are a Contacts who did not previously buy Intel and now have a new angle through which you can increase their Influence and Rep, but a few are swap overs from Intel to Scientific Intel. The new rules and system have also touched on a huge number of Contact Traits that will recruit Scientists or prefer to purchase Scientific Intel if possible or will pay heavily (Cult Leaders!) for the secrets, often farmed directly from xeno encounters.

Scientists can be promoted or recruited during Academy Graduations or from Sage of Records, Medical Provost and Xenologist Contact Types.

New Level Cap 45
For those veteran captains still sailing the void after 70 years and reaching the level cap of 40, we've made a major lift with CATALYST to open the gates all the way to 45. This also includes a big uptick in maximum job level from 32 to 36. The job levels are especially exciting as they come with a solid chunk of Skill points which we've used creatively to fill gaps, catch up certain off skills, or double down on the primary skill. On top of the extra Skill points, the Captain and Officers both net a total of 2 Talents, giving you even more powerful build options.

Zenrin-only Vark Carrier
The Vark Carrier is a technical marvel and the heaviest 6000-class hull architecture ever devised. While the exact details of the design are a tightly-held Zenrin secret, the build borrows heavily from the expertise of Zenrin's friends among the Star Trader Houses and Clans. While the Vark is heavily shielded and armored, the massive hull is built around the Traveler Void Engine, rather than the Dual-Field popular on large warships, strictly for speed. Zenrin Captains, and the fearless aces of small craft combat stand ready to face any Xeno threat, no matter how distant. Among the 6000-class ships, the Vark Carrier is the only one capable of docking 5 craft.

And More
We've also updated the rules for the Spice Festival Rumor to further reduce Trade Law, now applying a massive -4 over the previously -2.

And, for those Spies selling traditional Intel, we've bumped up the price of Conflict Intel to which the Contact is directly related by more than 50%.

We've also fixed the Armor/Shield stats on Performance Hyperwarp Drives and rebalanced the prices of both Neutiquam Cruiser and resolved its issue of having 8/7 Officer Cabins.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
I love that work is still being done on this.

Edit: have there been any DLCs released for this game?
Trese Brothers don't seem to do DLCs for any of their games.
They just keep updating and adding more content.

I think they had dlcs for some of their older mobile games (like additional heroes for their fantasy RPG), but yeah, they haven't released any dlc on PC at least
