Devs with balls would have removed the chainsaw without changing the amount of ammo you find in the game (and respawning "barrels").

Devs with balls would have removed all tutorials, upgrades, and story, and released a game just like Doom 1 and 2.

You can take out the tutorials from the UI menu.

Didn't need any tutorial on how to take the spider since i'm just using the sticky bomb lmao. Apply and move out of the way. No point getting into a sparring match with the thing when you got demons spawning under your butt cheeks.

By the way did anybody try Weapons mod for Doom 2016? I just came across this. Some changes do sound nice, like removed health and ammo drops from enemies, removed Glory Kills, increased max ammo count. Some weapon rebalancing like reduced spread on shotguns. Siphon grenade is made available in first map and more powerful, obviously to compensate for lack of healing from GKs. Also:

Removed a player fist punching the upgrading bot when upgrading weapons.
:lol: The heart of this mod seems to be in a right place, might actually have to try it at some point.

Sticky bombs are my favorite way to disable monster weapons, never felt the need to use precision shot. Zoom aiming in a game like this doesn't feel right to me.

I'm starting to resent glory kills more and more now that your ammo is so limited, since you are compelled doing the kills to save ammo even if your health is fine.

They should've made the glory kill speed with the rune active the default speed.

Also eagerly awaiting a mod that increases your base speed, the fights that had a speed powerup make you realize just how godawfully slow doomguy runs in this game. I'd be very interested to see how this game plays with increased movement speed and no dashes, were it not for the fact you need dashes to complete most platforming sections.

He rated the game a 7.5 and clearly pointed out many flaws. Is that "being a chill", "super positive" and "not fighting against the hype" ?

I mean, there's objectively a lot of chills / hype in the reviews, but I don't think WAB's video is one of them so it feels weird to see all of you guys jumping on his ass..

All right, I beat this FUCKING TRASH game. I'm gonna air some of my grievances.

THE PRAISE
I'll give credit where it's due, this game runs really well. The optimization department should be given a raise, I played it on both my usual computer and my shitty laptop and the laptop was very playable with not much drop in graphical quality. I kind of wish this game wasn't well optimized because the Icon of Sin fight would be a real shitshow and it'd be funny to read the legion of bitchery if you didn't have some cutting edge computer. Take that, BITCH.

Combat wise, okay, the "gameplay loop" or whatever gay shit they call it... the gameplay loop is THE WORST. TRASH. MAKES ME SICK. But, the actual "fire your gun" part of it is good. It's pretty good, actually. The damage enemies sustain is a fun visual, a lot of the weapons sound meaty... except for one very important one. The BFG. Remember when you fired the BFG in old Doom? Well I hope you clung to that memory hard because you'll be replaying it in your head each time you fire a shot off with it, the in game one they have is awful. But most of the other guns are okay.

A lot of the classic enemies look more like their usual selves which I appreciate. I didn't like how shitty some of them looked in Doom 3/2016. The only one I didn't like was the Baron of Hell. They don't have the pink skin and they don't have the iconic "HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAA" scream. Actually, take this point back. I miss that a lot more than I thought. Fuck Doom Eternal.

MAP DESIGN
LOL WHAT MAP DESIGN?

This game is so fucking linear, it's so fucking on rails, you feel like you're on an elaborate ride at Universal Studios. There's no exploration, there's no interesting predicaments, nothing. In fact, the map design is so shit that even if the gameplay loop was abolished and it was the best feeling Doom game ever made I'd still bury this game because of how atrocious the maps are. The maps are just boring. Think of how many old Doom maps stood out, I kid you not when I say this but you will not remember a single one of these.

And not only that, there are less maps here than ever. There's something like... 12 missions? One of them doesn't even count because you just walk through some place to get lore-porned and then thrown into a boss fight. Doom, Hell, 12 levels. Couldn't stretch your megaminds for the broody "13" levels, huh?
STORY
Lmao who gives a shit it's Doom. You're the Doomguy, there's demons from Hell, they're up to no good. Kill 'em. There's your story. They try to facefuck you with lore entries and cutscenes but I skipped through almost all of them.
SOUNDTRACK
Forgettable bargain bin metal garbage. I've no idea how Mick Gordon scored this gig, there are better musicians on fucking YouTube that actually play Doom music and it sounds way better than this hogwash. If you don't know Mick Gordon, then just know this guy has some sort of fetishistic need to make his soundtracks "DYNAMIC." This means in layman's terms, the pacing is constantly fucked with and the song itself feels like it goes from Point A to Point Y in no time and ruins all sense of build up. His best work was Killer Instinct 2013 and there's no better example than that game. The songs on KI are actually pretty good but because Mick Gordon is retarded they're mixed to sound like jumbled up shit and this happens often in this game but luckily you won't be pissed off like you would be with KI because all the music here uniformly blows.

When I saw you could unlock music from Quake and the real Doom I was hoping it would be a reprieve from the shitty music of Mick Gordon but nope, you're getting his garbage whether you like it or not. The vintage music only plays between missions in your base, not where it counts. Gay.
GAMEPLAY
I hate the gameplay because of how fucking in love with its gimmicks it is. I just know, I can just envision these dweebs sitting around planning things out and probably some latent homosexual came up with "LOL THIS WOULD BE FUNNN!" or some egomaniacal bitch made animator was like, "Why would I make these beautiful fatality animations if you're just gonna rocket launcher right through them?" So because of those tyrants you must endure the Doom Eternal gameplay loop. Do you need health? Glory kill a stunned enemy. Do you need armor? Light them on fire. Do you need ammo? Go Leatherface on the schmuck.

Now this wouldn't be bad as some optional thing, maybe a way to spice things up. The problem is, it's not optional. In fact, it's intended that you play this game the way they want you to play it and that's by being some turbo autist that has to MANAGE RESOURCES. Now I know some people like this system but those people are braindead mooks and let me tell you why.

This system, this loop, it is the nucleus of everything bad here in Doom Eternal. The zombies you see wandering around all the time during a gauntlet battle, they're not there for any reason but to be a mobile medkit/ammo crate. They serve no other purpose. Do you know why this gameplay loop exists in the first place? Because the developers here have zero fucking clue how to do item placement and pacing. This all goes to map design. You see in real Doom, the maps were like labyrinths and elaborate mazes. This let them put things around the place thoughtfully and if you didn't use what you were given well, then you'd properly eat shit. In this game because if they went that traditional route (assuming they could make a map that didn't suck) then you'd almost always run out of ammo because... huzzah, the encounter/enemy placement is fucked. In fact, there is no real enemy placement. The way you fight enemies is by entering a room and then hearing Mick Gordon's BLOCK ROCKING BEATS play telling you it's COMBAT MODE now. You'll proceed to face wave after wave of enemies like you accidentally entered a Survival mode, and the enemies themselves vary from Revenants and Mancubi to Hell Knights and Arachnotrons that spawn in from who the fuck knows where. Because you can't chainsaw anything bigger then six feet, you're forced to run around most of the time like a moron to RIP AND TEAR some zombies and keep the fight going. Don't worry about what ammo you need because they drop all the ammo except BFG. There are item pick ups scattered around and medkits of yore, but they seem like a novelty placement than anything else. Because you'll go through an area most of the time once ever you don't have to make a mental note on where they are. Just run over it, if you pick it up then good and if you don't then oh well proceed through the gate of no return as always.

And then there's how tedious shit is outside of that accursed loop. Gauntlet style fight, run through corridor/platform section, repeat. This is the bulk of what you're doing in this game. Over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if 1) the combat gameplay loop mentioned above wasn't total goatshit and 2) the platforming didn't suck dick. I don't know who asked for this platforming thing. Maybe it was a sick Make-A-Wish kid who pleaded that they put platforming into their next Doom game even if everyone else that is going to live on has to suffer. If that's the case I hope an Archvile brings that punk back so I can personally dropkick them in the teeth. Everyone knows the platforming is gay, no need to drone on about it.

I also don't like the 37 progression systems they stapled on here. Runes, suit upgrades, weapon mods, mods for the weapon mods, mods for the mods of the weapon mods, some other shit I stopped noticing after 3 hours and just clicked at random. I'm playing Doom you pussies, just give me a super shotgun.
TOYS TOYS TOYS
Doom has MANY SEKRETZ in it, and every time I hit that big question mark I was so excited. I didn't know if I'd get something insanely pointless or an MMORPG quest that would eventually reward me something pointless. Luckily Doom Eternal skips the foreplay and gives me the disappointment right away. Every time I picked up a stupid fucking toy of some monster, all so I can "admire" them on display back in my home base I wondered what sort of manchildren have gotten into this industry. The issue I have is they go through literal Hell and back to build Doomguy as this big macho man badass, alpha male, fucks your mother while fisting your sister and being rimmed by your aunt, but all of that is lost the second he picks up a toy and happily puts it on display in his man cave. You know what would've been better and more appropriate for a Doom game? Doomguy picks up a toy, looks at it as the "secret" and proceeds to crush it into pieces with great disappointment. This disappointment manifests into rage, and bam, he now has a useful power up like Berserk or Quad Damage.
IS THERE A SPIDER MASTERMIND IN IT?
Nope.

My final rating for this game is I would demand all the hours of my life this shitty successor took from me but I know I'd only end up wasting them anyway. If this game had real map designers and gameplay developers that weren't on antidepressants it could've been so much better. If you really want it wait a year or so when this game goes down in price dramatically like 2016 did or on a good sale. Or pirate it. Yeah, pirate it. Don't be like me and fund this. Look at me: I just played a game I clearly disliked back in 2016 and heavily disliked in the first 30 minutes to its completion to be able to stomp it while also being out money I could have spent on paper towels and canned beefaroni. I'm an idiot.

Here's some RANDOM tips I learned from this game that may help or impede you:

-Combat Shotgun's best mod is the Sticky Bomb one. May be the best in the game when it comes to what you get vs. what you put in. An AOE explosion with good damage, destroys things like Arachnotron turrets and Mancubi rocket launchers with ease, and only uses regular ammo. This kind of makes the Precision Shot mod for the Heavy Cannon pointless since it's 10x easier to Sticky Bomb a weak point. The only time I think Precision Shot is good is when you face those angelic drones where you have to headshot them.

-Rocket Launcher's Detonate mod fucks up Marauders by causing them to stagger and letting you get a big Ballista > Super Shotgun > Ballista combo off to pretty much end them immediately. The Lock On mod is good too though, you can't go wrong with either one.

-Ice Grenades are more useful in my experience than Frag Grenades. When you fully upgrade them, the damage modification against frozen enemies and gaining health off them will save your life more than enough times. That whole skill tree synergizes extremely well together. Upgrade it as soon as possible.

-Plasma Rifle's Heat Blast mod was my preferred, got much more practical value out of it than the fire beam. The Plasma Rifle is a good spammy weapon too so you'll always have a heat blast ready and it completely fucks up a lot of mid tier enemies. It also has a pretty good weapon mastery.

-Collecting all the floppy disc cheat codes unlocks the OG Doom on the old PC in the Doomguy's base. Putting FLYNNTAGGART in as the password on the second option when using the old PC unlocks Doom II: Hell on Earth. Just the base games though, no Ultimate or Master Levels/No Rest for the Living unfortunately.

-The hardest boss I found was the angel one. I used the Ballista with the Arbalest mod as I found that was the best way to lower her shields as it'll do the most damage. Rockets also work well. As the fight progresses shit gets real hectic at around the third or second last shield, I highly recommend using the angel drones to get as much ammo as possible and health/armor and then rush through the third and second last shields. Use the BFG on the last shield to immediately down it and win. It also helps out a lot if you use that rune which slows down time when you're mid air so you can better dodge all the bullshit while getting off precise shots.

It's great that DOOM 2 (& DOOM) is in this game, so the extreme butthurt can also play that when they're complaining about platforming.
