If you min-max influence and put it all into habitats and megastructures you'll get absurdly OP too.

I tried Scion and got fucking nothing. Its entirely random apparently so complete shit.

Yes habitat oirign with fanatic autoritharian(+xenophobe for extra pop grwoth) to add 10% production to the already 15% bonus is pretty strong, then you can add negative traits to your pop which arent even negative to them like habitability, add very strong or ingenious . However you have to really micro them and cant put construction on auto, when you are getting big its quite the headache. While with other civis you only really build perfectly first few planet then just expand conquer everything and let IA manage your acquired land.

No what you want is Fan Materialist (technocracy civic) and Authoritarian (slaver guilds). You use the new slavery option that lets slaves work specialist jobs. As far as micro goes you just move all your excess pops to new habitats and queue up a few buildings like the robot builder, pop growth building, and the rest is districts for mining/research/energy. Then when you get a ringworld you have like 20 habitats growing super fast throwing all of their pops into the ringworld. You do want to get some pops to settle planets though so you can make ecumenopoli. Of course take the synth ascension since its the best and gives huge growth rate, removing your penalty to being off habitat and stacking both robot bonus with slavery bonuses since slaver guild still applies to it. Take Meritocracy as your third civic for more stacking production bonuses, and remove technocracy for Aristocratic Elite once you have all your unity stuff done.

Constant resettlement is the annoying thing. Supposedly one of the galactic senate policies will automate it but it takes fucking forever to get anything done in the senate so good fucking luck with that. But you don't really need to interact with the habitats past initial districts and some growth/bureaucracy buildings, just resettle once in a while.

Late game is super dumb with how you can just spam through repeatables. lolol +100% weapon damage +100% weapon fire rate +100% minerals and energy mined. Basically 80% of your pops can be on your ecumenopoli or ringworlds doing alloys or research because everything else gets so efficient. The rate at which repeatables increase in cost is a very slow linear amount so its basically endless if you start building ringworlds past the first one.

Also the game gets laggy as fuck when you have 3.5k pops, even if they are crammed into a few systems.

Played a bit with federations.

Am disappointed Scions are just overpowered shit and Remnants gives you a fake Relic World with normal planetary features. Hopefully Galactic Doorstep is a fun little story.

Sad the Philosopher King and Shadow Council civics got meh worthy bonuses. Like lmao a boost to leader pop production?

Pop ethics shift still isn't fixed and ethics generation is fecked. Try being Void Dwellers. Youi'll get every faction in the game at 2220.

Absolutely hate Bureaucrats and how there's no choice in pushing the empire sprawl. Its too easy to manage.

OTOH, love Trade Federation policies. Haven't bothered crunching the numbers but now I can even enjoy having clerks just for the heck of it. Cleriks are shit, true but its satisfying to have them now. On top of my beautiful Amazon prime Merchant guilders, ofc.

Galactic Community needs to be quicker and with a great deal more laws, pandering to non egalitarian or technologist worldviews. I want to ban robots galaxy wide and then holy war to put and end to Skynet menace.

From what I read about Scions is "sandbox mode", I think this is intentional but I suppose you can make it harder by making everyone join in ... and then try liberation as the entirely of the galaxy will go to war and all the toys Daddy given you get taken away.

Doomday seem to be the hard mode since you have 35 years to find a new world but I suppose its only hard until you catch up on the rest and then its like the rest.

By the way, it seems that there is a big bug in the new patch and I spoke too soon. The sector AI, in its eternal wisdom, spends all the resources you give it and drives itself (and you) to bankruptcy trying to clear blockers it has no technology to clear.

So, crisis averted, the end of the world is cancelled and moved to an indeterminate future date. Bang up job from our boys at Paradox, as always.

:greatjob:

Been playing this quite a bit.

Quite a few annoying bugs. Including fleets not being able to be replenished, an administrative building being AWOL, sanctions not escalating (continuous voting for minor sanctions), etc. All relatively obvious stuff.

Definitely needs a few patches.

I do enjoy the times when the game starts to resemble an actual simulation of galactic politics. I love the feeling of being backed up by friendly nations who I can send to die for me in a war. It's a pity they released the DLC unfinished like always.

Is the AI at least somewhat improved?
Sometime, in rare occurences, once a blue moon, when it clearly overpower you in fleet number, you can see an AI launch a decent attack merging its fleet in one single attack. A sight to behold Indeed, never happened again and never will unless i try some underpowered build on purpose… Even in a federation with overwhelming forces on your side your allies happily sit in their space too.Lets not even speak of the sector management AI, you cant possibly watch and let it do its things.

So I got a Dyson's Sphere in the mid game..
ECUXSXmX4AAUOLM.jpg

I got very lucky. I got the Cybrex Precursors AND found a Ruined Dyson's Sphere!

Of course I used the Cybrex event chain to rush to Mega-engineering and now I am making 3.4K energy a month from that thing. It's only 2303 and everyone else is a joke compared to me now.

Let's see if there is an upper limit on the price of alloys 'cause I am gonna buy them all!

This is actually my first Dyson's Sphere ever because I have never played an empire long enough to get that far. I mean it's late-late game stuff normally and damn it is powerful.

Ok, so there is a de facto upper limit on the price of alloys..

..because the higher the price of something is the faster said price goes down.. which means I have basically unlimited resources now.

This is ridiculously overpowered, basically god mode.

The entire point of this game is LARPing out your space opera fantasies. Do what makes you happy. If you want to retain challenge, don't abuse mechanics.

Ok I tried playing this game finally and the UI is so fucking small it's impossible to see anything on my 4k monitor.

So then I try using "increase UI size" option in settings and literally it just blows up the resolution and makes everything blurry as fuck

what a joke of a developer it's fucking 2020 and they haven't figured out ui scaling for 4k. refunded

I last played Stellaris around 1.8 or 1.9, something like that. Before the economy rework, anyways. Having played 2.6 some, I would say that overall it feels better now than it did before. Doesn't necessarily mean good, just overall better. There is more depth and detail to the economy and to governing countries. Still pretty abstracted and way too dependent on events and randomization but I feel like the state of the game now is a lot better than it was when I last played.

Haven't done much combat though so I don't know how that's changed if at all, and I don't yet know how the game holds up in lategame phase.
