Except that The Witcher isn't full of cutscenes. There aren't actually many cutscenes unless you're counting the cinematic camera style during dialogues as cutscenes.

"Cinematic style" in witcherios isn't limited to camera. Dialogues actually work as pure cutscenes, depriving player of his agency:

- There are many pure cutscenes, introducing some new setting and actors or "chapters" in the story after entering a place, ending a conversation or achieving a goal, but without player explicit intervention to start that new scene.

- In many cases ordinary dialogues -those in which player start the conversation- include also a small introduction with npcs or even Geraldo talking, walking and acting for some seconds before the player made his first dialogue choice.

- The player is forced to pass for long series of interactions with no possibility to skip an entire dialogue but only any of the individual "turns" between npcs and Gerald -for example when you already watched that cutscene-.

- There are many long npc monologues in which those talk, talk and talk alone, while Geraldo is supposed to wait patiently...

- Npcs have not only long dialogues, but usually acted as in a movie, with the characters changing positions, walking, performing activities, demonstrating "emotions" or with artsy zooms and perspective changes, for endless moments before continuing to speak.

Here you have Witcherio 3 dialogues cutscenes:

More than 19 hours! And that not including expansions. Player dialoge choices moments or those few seconds walking before a scene are a minimal part of the videos, so after discounting those tiny parts, How much time is player acting as spectator more than as a videogame player in TW 3? 17-18 hours?

Including previous games and all expansions and discounting all interactive moments, The Witcher series include 40 hours of cutscenes.

Characters are living things, and livings things usually walk, and perform activities, yes.

The main problem is that they do in middle of a cutscene, extending even more the length of the spectator mode. Videogames aren't films.

Cutscenes as the main way to build a narrative or even worst as main part in a game experience is the worst offender to videogames nature among all modern-casualizing bad design options, worse than empty walking simulators, dialogue choices as main mechanic, floating markers or tourist/game-journalist difficulty mode. Cutscenes is the only context in wich not even a fake or irrelevant gameplay exist, there is nothing, only watch and wait.

There are 40 hours in which narrative restricts player intervention in TW series, that's say 40 hours in wich TW games act more as a animation movie than a videogame. That's too much, don't you think?

Um... right. It's pretty obvious you're full of shit.

It would be one thing if we didn't have the ability to skip through the voice-overs and had to actually sit there and listen to every conversation, but that isn't the case. The dialogues only last as long as the player wants them to.

The idea of the Witcher character is good, a mythical monster hunter with cool abilities. But its realized in the way one would imagine an emo teen would realize a fictional character (he's a mutant, he can use magic, he's great with swordplay, he looks 'cool', he bangs all the chicks, he's sarcastic and has dry wit, etc).

Most importantly, Geralt is a rip off of a true giant of fantasy literature, the only, the original, the REAL White Wolf:

if u like to be the director of an interactive movie starring Mel Gibson, Witcher is ur premium choice. its a GTA 3x clone in a fantasy setting with some branching (grandgreatfather Gothic, i know, i know). neither setting nor systems (combat?) r somewhat innovative, but AAA edited. i guess u enjoy AssCreed as well - have it ur way (TM).

Witcher game series is one of the hallmarks of neo-gamer hipster cucks. And games becoming interactive movies is one of the biggest cancers in gaming.

Who among the Codex shall set aside 4+ hours and watch this?

The first of three videos on The Witcher Series. This is focused on the first game but discusses all three of them, plus some comments on the books and TV series.

I'm not a fan of Joseph Anderson but given the amount of effort he's obviously put into this series, I'll give him another shot.

Four hours? No way. I'll gladly read the review or, even better, get read the tl;dw summary.
