But you can't get farther than 10 on character creation, can you ? So it's only a CON trade-off.
I'm not saying it's the ultimate build, not even sure it's a good idea to use burst shots with shotguns in the first place as you have to reload so often but you can ...

I guess it all depends on the weapons available, maybe in the full game, one or two shotguns will make the shotguns burst a thing.
well con is free stat to an extent because you get +1 dex +1 per from implants

and charisma 6 makes for an effective party.

absolutely good idea, twin shot is 6 ap, 7 ap on high grade shotguns, massive crit boost, this stuff murders people.

I like it a lot more than SMGs because of high crit and ammo conservation which might become a thing in "real" game.

for solo sure 6 str maybe.

'Beat' the game on my fourth attempt (ie build), open below if you wanna see.
461E4A8624FE0E908979952F829EBEB5F3F21F5E
Wound up accepting Vasquez and saying yes to joining brotherhood (the final fight is too hard, the main guy keeps killing me in one turn with his hammer. I feel I'm at a slight disadvantage here since the power vest and energy rifle gotten from the final fight are useless). Will probably retry on a different build.

Pretty cool game even now. I do think charisma and int are dumpstats (cha 6 might be workable, although the early fights will be hard), and focus should be on dex and per.

There's a perk adding 10 THC for burst shots but you need 6 STR.
Now it makes some sense, although the perk is in no way indispensible.

Here is what I mean, I replayed the 2nd combat just now. The character is the same and equipment is the same I used after posting my observation.

1st turn
I notice that my THC is the same in any position but the last, so I stand at the penultimate one in this column of the grid. Start combat.
I have enough AP to make two shots to the arms. I choose the two targets with the highest THCs.
At the end of turn 1 both are maimed and suffer ~25% damage. I have a significant advantage before they have been able to take any part in the combat. There is no way to achieve the same advantage with a melee character at this level and with this equipment

They gang up on me, but their hits (Fast Attacks) generally graze, because of the maimed debuff.
I take 2 hits and 3 grazes for a total of 9 damage. I know I can suffer some hits thanks to having enough HP.
I score one graze from a reaction attack/snap shot on William Dalton, that deals another 6 damage to him:
mW23VBL.jpg

2nd turn
Reloading the shotgun, which I shot during the reaction attack - 2 AP
With my now remaining 15 AP I can do 2 Attacks of 4 AP, and reload twice for 2 AP, for a total of 12 AP, with 3 AP remaining.
4 AP: I fire at William Dalton who is lowest on health, and kill him. Critical Hit: 13*1.25 = 16 DMG. He has 0 armor. Crit range - 0-7, Hit range - 8-61, Graze range 62-100. I rolled 0.
2 AP: Reload the shotgun
4 AP: I target Emmet Dalton who is also lower on health and has the biggest CTH. Hit: 13 DMG.
2 AP: Reload the shotgun
2 AP: I take position between the two crates, so I am exposed to attacks only from the front and back. This will force one enemy to waste his AP circling around.
I end my turn with 1 AP remaining.

Frank Dalton does three attacks. One attack is a graze, does 1 Damage to me, the second attack misses, the third is a hit and does 5 damage.
All Emmet Dalton manages to do is circle around and take position behind me. Screenshot before their attacks begin:

f7qf082.jpg

Turn 3:
I start with both enemies next to me, a loaded shotgun and 17 AP.
My first shot kills Emmet Dalton. Regular Shot (4 AP), 14 Damage. He never managed to do much. Reloading shotgun - 2 AP. 11 AP left.
Next shot grazes Frank Dalton. Regular Shot (4 AP), 6 Damage. Reloading shotgun - 2 AP, 5 AP left.
Next shot grazes him again for 5 AP. I end turn with 1 AP left.

Frank Dalton makes 4 fast attacks - 2 misses, 1 graze, 1 hit. The hit does 4 damage. The graze does 0 damage.

Turn 4:
I reload the shotgun, and score a regular shot (4 AP) hit on Frank Dalton for 14 Damage which kills him:

I though I had a good 75% chance to hit)
u r an optimist, all you had was 25% chance to miss.

reaction shots just need redesign, they need to be limited to when you're in cover, to spending AP for prepared action to prepare them, and amount per round should be limited unless you invest in feats.

At the end of turn 1 both are maimed and suffer ~25% damage. I have a significant advantage before they have been able to take any part in the combat. There is no way to achieve the same advantage with a melee character at this level and with this equipment
well melee character doesn't need 3 turns, they just chop daltons in a flurry of reaction hits and click on green arrow.

Someone here is butthurt and making rushed judgments.

Stop and think before you make your posts.

Did you factor in your rushed posts the importance of feats, and how they change the dynamic completely?

This is what you said:

- When dealing with melee enemies, a ranged build with a backup shotgun seems superior to a melee specialist build.

This is false because of what I posted above.

Party of four with 10 points in charisma, right?
What is false? That it seems superior? Because this is what I've, as you've pointed out, said.

Looks like someone else should stop and think before making rushed posts

Not like it's his first time anyway.

This seems to be rushed post, but it was only an apparent reply to an apparent statement. It seems someone can say whatever and get away with it if they add the qualification "it seems" before the post. that way they can pretend to know things they don't but bear no responsibility for their posts. What a fantastic idea. I will add it seems before anything I post from now on. that way, if I get caught saying stupid things, I can react with self-righteous anger and a tone of intellectual superiority, or at least that's what it seems from reading your posts.

Turned out the character named Riflemen had no rifle on him. :)
That's probably due smoke grenade which carter throwing before rifleman turn. He actually has a pretty good rifle.
Like "I made a rifle build, I must use a rifle no matter what".
I MUST, ALRIGHT?! No exp to waste, are you kidding me? :nocountryforshitposters: I'm aware that few exp dosn't make much difference
the final fight is too hard
Did you waste stasis before? It is really tough fight w/o it.

Yeah, don't get hung up on using a single weapon in the first fights. Like "I made a rifle build, I must use a rifle no matter what". Machete is my friend in the first fights :P

Yeah I've changed up my gear most fights. In my latest and most successful build (Solowoman Blunt) I had two blunt weapons equipped for one fight (one for slow, one for quick leftover AP attacks), an SMG in the alternate slot for another and in the last couple I've had a rifle just for ranged reaction shots - which paid off with a few 10-13 dmg ones.

Second Wind is LULZ, I thought I was going to lose the latest fight I completed for sure but clutched it vs 3 with 7HP left on the second last round and 2HP left on the last one ahahah

By the way, i wanted to play something else but i just can't, this demo ruined me for other games for a while.

Thank you for the praise. I'm really happy you guys are enjoying it :D

I definitely concur with what others have said, the combat is quite good already. Definitely have a few thoughts but might hold off until I've finished it a few times with different builds.

did anyone notice that blind grenades can vanish from vendor? that seriously didn't help my endurance 4 smg guy in last fight.

also if u didn't like aimed hits before, last fight is where they are nice because all enemies feature armor, but you and your guys are accurate enough at this point to aim to head even with SMGs.

I used only 1 and no idea where others went.

end fight bug: elevator man goes on you with a mace suddenly (?) turns off his shield for this (lolz) and when he dies you can't go out of elevator because he is too fat when dead.

so 4 CON (no perk, 20 hp run) JC Denton SMGer totally viable.

but don't do it. :shitposting:

Seeing people struggle with the rifle build makes me feel better about the failure of my one. It'll probably feel more useful in the game where there is more room for a fight

What do you mean? Collisions on dead chars should be disabled.

I had lots of fun so far, trying a lone wolf melee build. But damn I rely way too much on luck to not get my ass obliterated. Might try companions next playthrough

Also a really zoomer question for the Devs, any plans to improve on the death animation? (Blood pools, blood decals, gibs or limbs exploding?)

So, reation shots - do they happen ONLY when enemy enters your weapon range, or also happen when enemy moves INSIDE weapon range, for example - on first turn enemy enters weapon range, second turn - moving insaide it?
If only when enters weapon range - then weapon with bigger wr benefits from reaction shots generally less?

party of 4 includes your character. So it's 3 extra companions.

Wait so with Cha 4 you can have 1 companion, that mean - you are alone?
Then how I could join Billy and all?

Defeated Soloman like hour ago, and after that was digging into equipment, deciding what to keep for hour lol.

Btw, the difference between doing that fight with Bull_dog and Colt - with first I could barely eliminate one enemy, with second - I was barely scratched (lucky dices with reaction shots and crits but nonetheless).
Importance of itemization.

Not in my experience, but I'll try with a different melee build, like Jaedar's.

BTW, why should it be impossible to fire a pistol from melee range? In the future, there will be no close quarters gun training?
